About =Jesse=
Age- 27
Relationship Status-
Married

Things I like- Jack Daniels, Dogs, Martial Arts, Firearms, A good drunken brawl with my buddies from time to time, cigars, trucks, glam rock, red meat, hot sauce (seriously hot, like competition hot, not that silly taco bell hot), Aliens, Predator, knowing that if it bleeds we can kill it, tattoos, scrambled eggs with cheese, corn beef hash

Things I don't like-
Snobs, excessive sarcasm, know it all's, traffic, lettuce, sharks, murky water, people that don't bring food or drinks to a party (you know who you are), Chuck Norris (he made The Expendables 2 into a pg13 movie), mustard, people who mistake roads for NASCAR, NASCAR

What items will I most likely want to trade for after shtf? Jack Daniels, condoms, ammunition, dog food...oh yea, and that whole clean water and food thing too.

Music? You know, lots of people post things like heavy metal or rap. Real cool IS Journey. If you're wandering the barren wastelands and you hear zombies meeting their demise to a rockin Journey mix...you can be 100% sure it's me....JOURNEY!!!

A few jack and cokes and this made sense to megoodnight....

My Survival Plan:
My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web: =jesse=

My location:
Colorado

Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else?
Initially home until the dust settles. Consume our perishables and then relocating.

How will I travel?
1994 Ford Bronco with a V8 and 33inch mudders

Got anyone I want to take with me? My wife and dogs

How am I planning to get food and water? Already stocked with water and canned goods to hunker down for at least a week. Headed into the mountains after. Lots of fresh water and game there.

What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that?
2x Mossberg 500 w/ 20 inch barrel and 7 shot capacity
1 AK-47 with 10 mags and about 2000 rounds of ammo
1 Springfield XD-45 with 4 mags and few hundred rounds of ammo
Machete

I realize that this is too much for one person to carry...that's why I have a wife to split it with.

Got a survival philosophy? It's the apocalypse. What's the rush?

Am I willing to hook up with other survivors? So long as you're not like Shane and leave me to die in a hospital, then sleep with my wife, then point a gun at me when I return, then throw a wrench at me, then try to kill me out in a field....yes, I'm willing to hook up with other survivors.

Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of?
Kind of...I plan on doing the opposite of whatever got people killed in the movies

=Jesse's= Super Sweet Bug Out Plan
Being new to Colorado I've adjusted my plan. I'd really appreciate some criticisms to help seal some gaps if you don't mind.

Right now, from what I can see my gear is lacking cold weather gear, unopened water bottles, and misc. trading items (matches, condoms, bandages). I'd also like to double up on rope and duct tape. Our firearms (ak, two 500's, and an xd45), ammo, certs and training are good. My wife and I have six, 2 gallon jugs of water and about 20 cans of assorted canned food. About every other grocery store run we pick up another gallon or two of water and a couple of cans of food. If you need a gallon a day, my wife and I can last probably about 4 day right now with what we have since we also have 3 dogs.

When shtf I plan on laying low at home. We live 5 mintues (driving) from the mountains. We're in the Ken Caryl area if you're familiar with Littleton, CO. I'm going to break the staircase to keep anything from coming up. We can't lug 12 gallons of water + food, so consume that while most of the dust settles. Being at home, energy expenditure will likely be low, so consumption can be lowered too. Once the dust has settled, I own a Ford Bronco with some nice 33 inch mudders (sorry, I just really like my tires) to travel. The bronco is big enough and tough enough to carry all of our gear into the mountains. At some point, we'll have to drop the Bronco, but there are some lakes in the mountains where I'd like to construct shelter. It's near fresh water, plenty of forest for shelter and burning, lots of game, and the natural terrain makes it difficult for living and undead to reach.

At our mountain site, the our order of priorities are fire, shelter, security, and then food. Fire is first for warmth and boiling water, and can also be applied for security. Shelter can be a tent assuming we can bring it, or a simple a-shelter. The abundance of forest in the area will give us plenty of supplies to work with. Security will take a bit longer. I have a few hundred feet of fishing line I'd like to set up as an advanced warning system. Cutting down small to midsize trees as a barrier around us will be simple walls. Further in, shaving down tips as spears facing outward. Lastly, if we can't bring food with us, it's a good thing I have my wife. While I do most of the heavy lifting, she is quite the skilled outdoors-woman. Plenty of fish at our site. Once our fire and shelter are secure, we can put more focus on hunting and implementing comforts (softer sleeping areas, etc).

Things I could use help with...

Problem- Bronco's V8 chugs gas. Can't get too many back and forth supply trips.
Solution- Wood fuel has been suggested. Likely this will come to planning for supplies.

Problem- Cold weather. Colorado snows a lot. Nights drop down to single digits and below. We don't own too much cold weather gear, but some good hiking gear.
Solution- Purchase what we can when we can. The fire near us will keep us from freezing. Embers can be used as a fire bed. My next order of gear will include long johns and thermal blankets. From nature, insulating with things like moss will also help keep us from freezing to death.

My Z-Pocalypse Companions
(2 of them seem to enjoy sleeping on my head...)

you mentioned some misc trading items. ever think about stocking up on pints of liquor? i guarantee in a SHTF people will be dying for a drink. you could trade anything for that especially if they are an alcoholic.

water storage- no matter how much water you store, you will never have enough. even during a short term disaster you will use more water than you think, bathing-washing dishes-washing hands cooking etc. you will need to have a few methods for treating water. as a general rule of thumb i keep 3 to 7 days worth of drinking water for convinience. get a good charcoal filter/purifier, put some sort of pot in your BOB to boil water and a bandana for filtering the trash out. also get some iodine drops at a pharmacy. iodine will treat water quickly, its cheap and it also is great for disinfecting a wound.

you were talking about the problem with cold weather. amazon has some great space blankets at a cheap price. around 10bucks. you can use one or more to build a shelter and put the fire in the shelter with you. the space blanket will reflect the heat back at you

grow a garden, its fun, it relaxes me after a ****** day at work and its another source of food. when the zombies come, its only a matter of time before the canned foods have been stripped completely from the shelves and they have a short shelf life anyway. those who do well at growing and hunting their food will do well in a long term zombie survival.

not really any criticisms just some suggestions i like. just make your plan your own. then it will succeed

A respected member I suggested I begin this as a way for other members to leave comments, suggestions, and criticisms here.

By all means, feel free to tear it apart. The more it gets hammered the stronger I can make it.

Thanks!

First of all, I'm not a huge Journey fan, but I must say "Wheel in the Sky" is epic, and a great apocalyptic theme.

Second, d*mn that is one souped-up AK. Pretty tough. Not to mention the stainless steel and black shotguns.

Man, I'm loving that stainless shotgun. I've been combing the web for reviews and comments on what makes for a good tactical shotgun. I've owned lots of different hunting and trap shotguns but never a tactical model. What do you look for in a home defense shotgun?

Right now my home defense go-to gun is a 20 guage Franchi believe it or not. With a 26" barrel its not very practical. I'm a family man though so a pistol or rifle is out of the question for home defense.
