About =Jesse=
Age- 27
Relationship Status-
Married

Things I like- Jack Daniels, Dogs, Martial Arts, Firearms, A good drunken brawl with my buddies from time to time, cigars, trucks, glam rock, red meat, hot sauce (seriously hot, like competition hot, not that silly taco bell hot), Aliens, Predator, knowing that if it bleeds we can kill it, tattoos, scrambled eggs with cheese, corn beef hash

Things I don't like-
Snobs, excessive sarcasm, know it all's, traffic, lettuce, sharks, murky water, people that don't bring food or drinks to a party (you know who you are), the Kardashians, anything on Bravo TV, mustard, people who mistake roads for NASCAR, NASCAR

What items will I most likely want to trade for after shtf? Jack Daniels, condoms, ammunition, dog food...oh yea, and that whole clean water and food thing too.

Music? You know, lots of people post things like heavy metal or rap. Real cool IS Journey. If you're wandering the barren wastelands and you hear zombies meeting their demise to a rockin Journey mix...you can be 100% sure it's me....JOURNEY!!!

My Survival Plan:
My “handle” should you look for me on the radio waves or web: =jesse=

My location:
Maryland

Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else
?
Initially home until the dust settles. Consume our perishables and then relocating (if necessary).

How will I travel?
I sold the Bronco and it's massive awesomeness. Now we just have my wife's Jeep Patriot. It's still big enough to carry our 4 dogs and bug out gear. Tested the 4 wheel drive in some pretty deep snow and it worked great.

Got anyone I want to take with me? My wife and dogs

How am I planning to get food and water? I have enough canned food, rice, honey, peanut butter, and mre's to last 6 people for about 1.5 months; 2 months if we stretch it. Current water supply is right at 30 days for 6 people. That doesn't count the water tank at our house. All in all..not too bad for bugging in.

When all that runs out, we live deep in the forest near water. Lots of natural water and plentiful deer, fox, rabbit, etc. Worse comes to worse...maybe eat a neighbor or two ;)

What about first aid? I'm beginning to stock up in some basic medical supplies and first aid. Right now I have a few bottles of hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, and povidone-iodine, about 1300 tablets of Motrin, a couple hundred tablets of Tylenol extra strength, 4 ace bandages, a few rolls of medical tape, 4 bottles of neosporin, 4 bottles of pepto, and 2 bottles of caladryl.

I'd like to purchase a suture kit and maybe see if I can enroll in a basic first aid course.

How will I reach out and touch the zombies???

1. Mossberg Persuader w/ telescoping stock
2. Mossberg Mariner w/ pistol grip
3. WASR-10 (AK-47)
4. Springfield XD-45
5. Ruger SR-9

Totaled up, we've got 2 pistols, 2 shotguns, and 1 rifle.

My wife and I each carry a side arm + one long gun. That leaves us with 1 spare long gun to hand off to someone else or tie onto our bug out bag (probably will be the pistol grip 12 gauge).

Got a survival philosophy? It's the apocalypse. What's the rush?

Am I willing to hook up with other survivors? So long as you're not like Shane and leave me to die in a hospital, then sleep with my wife, then point a gun at me when I return, then throw a wrench at me, then try to kill me out in a field....yes, I'm willing to hook up with other survivors.

Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of?
Kind of...I plan on doing the opposite of whatever got people killed in the movies

So this map shows where I will be when zombies are running around town. I'm not in the immediate vicinity of any danger zones, relatively deep in the forest, and within walking distance of a reservoir. For those of you wondering, this is an image of Maryland.

*More to come on an actual plan later....*

you mentioned some misc trading items. ever think about stocking up on pints of liquor? i guarantee in a SHTF people will be dying for a drink. you could trade anything for that especially if they are an alcoholic.

water storage- no matter how much water you store, you will never have enough. even during a short term disaster you will use more water than you think, bathing-washing dishes-washing hands cooking etc. you will need to have a few methods for treating water. as a general rule of thumb i keep 3 to 7 days worth of drinking water for convinience. get a good charcoal filter/purifier, put some sort of pot in your BOB to boil water and a bandana for filtering the trash out. also get some iodine drops at a pharmacy. iodine will treat water quickly, its cheap and it also is great for disinfecting a wound.

you were talking about the problem with cold weather. amazon has some great space blankets at a cheap price. around 10bucks. you can use one or more to build a shelter and put the fire in the shelter with you. the space blanket will reflect the heat back at you

grow a garden, its fun, it relaxes me after a ****** day at work and its another source of food. when the zombies come, its only a matter of time before the canned foods have been stripped completely from the shelves and they have a short shelf life anyway. those who do well at growing and hunting their food will do well in a long term zombie survival.

not really any criticisms just some suggestions i like. just make your plan your own. then it will succeed

A respected member I suggested I begin this as a way for other members to leave comments, suggestions, and criticisms here.

By all means, feel free to tear it apart. The more it gets hammered the stronger I can make it.

Thanks!

First of all, I'm not a huge Journey fan, but I must say "Wheel in the Sky" is epic, and a great apocalyptic theme.

Second, d*mn that is one souped-up AK. Pretty tough. Not to mention the stainless steel and black shotguns.

Man, I'm loving that stainless shotgun. I've been combing the web for reviews and comments on what makes for a good tactical shotgun. I've owned lots of different hunting and trap shotguns but never a tactical model. What do you look for in a home defense shotgun?

Right now my home defense go-to gun is a 20 guage Franchi believe it or not. With a 26" barrel its not very practical. I'm a family man though so a pistol or rifle is out of the question for home defense.
