I love the dog BOB. I never thought have my beasts carry their own supplies! I have a 870 too. Great, light shotgun. Some ideas:
-You need something to sharpen the knives -Put cotton balls in the tin with your ball bearings. As it is it will make a lot of noise bumping around in your pack. The cotton will pad it out and stop the jingling. Also good tinder for fires when you're low on supplies. -Add some basic medical supplies (pain reliever, Immodium, antihistamine (bug bites), and antibiotic). Put cotton in their containers as well. -Fat source (stick of butter). Hardest part of the diet to come by when we can't get McD's. -Butteryfly bandages for serious cuts -Surgical blades. You don't want to use your offensive weapons if you need to do some delicate first aid work, right? You can make a handle for them from any stick when the need arises. -A secondary method for purifying water. I recommend tablets. If your pump kit fails, you need a backup. -Replacement cartridges for your water pump.

using the many cars/buses parked there as a temporary barrier while erecting a more permanent one would probably not take long to drive them into place and zeds would not be able to climb over them

Of course, I have my criticisms. 1. It will be WAY too hard to erect a wall when all hell is breaking loose, much less take over the place. Many people will want to take over that Big 5 for themselves. Plus, I'm sure the local asylum will want to know why you are erecting a wall around your "square" while there are really no zombies around yet. At least wait 'till you see at least 10 zombies in the streets.

First let me say that ya plan is good in concept. You have a place to hold and start making a base. There are guns, food, medical supplies, communication gear, and that shiny vault in which you can hide in as a very very very last resort, though I would never suggest running in and locking the door behind you for the obvious reason of one way in..one way out. Now, here are the things you need to consider for your revamping of your proposal.
Lets start with your second sentence. "While friends and quick adapting strangers" is what you have. Please understand, for your safety and everyone elses, that there will be no quick adapting strangers. In life there is a number one for every person and that person is themselves. Do not make a plan that counts on the submissive behavior of strangers. People will naturally be aggitated, agressive, and hostile. You might be able to get afew to understand the greater purpose here, but a vast vast majority will dismiss you as a ranting idiot and ignore your pleas for assistance. In life there is you, and you can count on no other. Second point. Longsword is correct when he tells you that the university medical center will be ground zero for the zombie outbreak. Think about it. Your little sister gets biten, but you kill the zombie and save her from being devoiured. What do you do? Take her to the hospital. Where later she will reanimate right in the middle of your compound. You might wanna think about not including this in your initial base. Third point. The big 5 will be impossible to take pre-invasion. Play out the conversation your going to have with the general manager as to why your pushing people out of the store and jumping over counters to steal guns. It won't be pretty. And say he is out of the picture. still leaves everyone else there, and who says they will follow you blindly? Basically, good plan, but just afew flaws you need to work out. revise, and I'll be glad to help in any way. |

like 13th.casualty said big 5 will be taken over by someone. that should be held by you if there ever is a Z-day when we need ammo and weapons we'll come there of course but the thing is thats where EVERYONE is going to be if not costco.

your idea is probably the best out there that doesn't involve greenland, and its that kind of thinking that mankind needs to survive this. i know you've seen Dawn of the Dead. i doubt anyone on the site hasn't, and as far as i know supplies run out no matter how well you prepare. (also: Chainsaws? you've gotta be kidding me. overkill) anyway, i want to make a suggestion for you. pull up some of the asphalt in the parking lots (it may be hard, but it will pay off) and plant the trees and other plants from home depot there. you can make a recreational garden and park area for psychological benefit for the other survivors and use the seed packets to plant crops.

Your plan is sound except for the U of W Clinic in your perimeter. When Z-Day goes down, all the uneducated bite victims will go to the nearest medical center, and then turn into the undead. Turning your northeast corner into Zombie city. This is quite clearly laid out in the Guide.

Ok, your a thinker... thats great. The survivors are going to be the people who can think the quickest and make the best decision. Now your plan is a well thought of and organized from what I read. However, it is gonna be nearly impossible to block off that large of an area. If you start early, people aren't gonna believe that zombies are real and attacking and they are gonna see you as a crazy narmed nut job stealing forklifts and smashing everyones cars. you are gonna swarmed by police or angry civilians. If you wait till the zombies are confirmed on the news or when the officials are all busy trying to control the cituation, the first thing people are gonna do when trying to get away is get to their car and speed off into a traffic jam on the escape routes. you may have enough cars to block off a smaller area at the beginning. I would start by making a pass from costco to the smaller building in the middle of costco and home depot. (what is that building anyway?) then from that smaller building to home depot and from the home depot to the hospital and so on and so forth. you will use less vehicles and time. and you could block of the loading bay of costco to the gas station and to the bus depot. How big is your team? its gonna take several people to pull this off and i would suggfest multi taking. one team make the pathways and one team hit up the gun stores and such.
I like the way you think though. you are the type of person i would want to get stranded with. let me know what you think about my ideas for your plan. keep up the good thinking

Well this is a pretty good plan, and truth be told I was considering hiding in that exact location myself, as I am near it. Don't forget about the gun shop a little ways to the south, either. However, you forget that:
- all the stuff in big 5 is total shit, as anyone with a brain stem would know; - the western face is far to large to be barricaded, and if it were, to large to maintain as well; - everyone knows that Costco is filled with mass food and the overall plentiful resources in the area, and it would be looted faster than you could set up a barricade. Real people would break it down to get inside, or if you let them all in (there would be manymany) you're pretty much guarenteed to have some of them die and reanimate inside of the complex; -if you go there as early as you say, there will be legal barriers to getting in, and; -some people are guarenteed to attack the complex to take it over for their own protection/looting. It would be better if you just got your guns and barricaded yourself in the costco alone, though the truck unloading doors at the back woudl be hard to secure (they aren't that sturdy). You'd be better off just holing up in your house, or jacking a boat. also, all the refrigerated goods in costco will go bad as soon as the city power goes off, and you're not going to find a gererator big enough to run all the refrigerators in that place.
