Nice work

I love the dog BOB. I never thought have my beasts carry their own supplies! I have a 870 too. Great, light shotgun. Some ideas:-You need something to sharpen the knives -Put cotton balls in the tin with your ball bearings. As it is it will make a lot of noise bumping around in your pack. The cotton will pad it out and stop the jingling. Also good tinder for fires when you're low on supplies. -Add some basic medical supplies (pain reliever, Immodium, antihistamine (bug bites), and antibiotic). Put cotton in their containers as well. -Fat source (stick of butter). Hardest part of the diet to come by when we can't get McD's. -Butteryfly bandages for serious cuts -Surgical blades. You don't want to use your offensive weapons if you need to do some delicate first aid work, right? You can make a handle for them from any stick when the need arises. -A secondary method for purifying water. I recommend tablets. If your pump kit fails, you need a backup. -Replacement cartridges for your water pump. |

Already planning to add a few tools to the bag, a file is one of them, and it will sharpen the machete, axe and knives. I also have a pro sharpening system, but it's really only for knives, and kind of a luxury item when the file will work. The tin is already lined with a rubberized foam, but cotton balls could prove handy and that is a great way to stow them. As far as tinder goes, steel wool is superb in that regard. Dip it in a little Vaseline jelly and it will burn hot and long while you get your main fuel source lit... I need to add these to the BOB too. :) All of these are in the First Aid kit, as well as an epi-pen for severe allergic reactions. I have butterflies in there too, and thanks to you I will get an Xacto knife kit to add as well as a stand in for surgical blades. I am carrying around a pretty good fat source around my middle that won't need refrigeration to keep, but that is a good consideration for the future. Maybe I will stash some tubs of Crisco somewhere for the eventuality that I find myself a shadow of my former self. That;s another good concern, when I lose weight I will have to find all new clothing, fortunately my outdoor pants are all pretty easy to cinch down with the built in canvas belts. (Ex Officio clothing is the shit for outdoors.) My water purifier is a field cleanable ceramic unit, so there is no need for replacement cartridges, but in the event it does fail, I have the means to boil water with my camp stove. The stove runs on all types of fuel: gas, kerosene, diesel, alcohol, lighter fluid etc. but I think I will get a bunch of purification tablets and throw them into the first aid kit as well. Thanks again for the input, I really need to get my gf's BOB together so I can divide up this load or I will be getting over burdened. |

It's things like this that convince me I'm not crazy. Either that, or a lot of other people are just as sick. Some people think about "american idol" or celebrity magazines. I think about my BOBs, how fast I can get to it and get out of the city, etc. Nothing makes my wife think I'm crazy like going to a nice restaurant for dinner, having me stop, look around the area and point out the different ways that the complex could support us in the event of an outbreak.Great work! |
