When I started thinking way too much about zombies: 11, now 25
What started my zombie fixation: Night of the Living Dead Favorite zombie book: World War Z Favorite zombie movie: Return of the Living Dead was pretty good... Favorite quote in any zombie movie:
My Survival Plan:
My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web: Donovan or likely just Dawn for short =^_~= My location: Southern Ohio Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? anywhere, two separate plans. Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else? heading to my best friend's house. Bugging in community style. If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there? On foot, all one mile of it, then more on foot if necessary. Got anyone I want to take with me? Just my best friend =^_^= My family will take to the country. How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route? Hermit with only my close peeps, but I plan to scavenge and trade with other groups. How am I planning to get food and water? Tough =*_*= Growing and scavenging, I might end up starting a raiding party though through my charisma and knowledge of animal training... =^_~= What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that? My axe =^_^= Its proper use is detailed in a thread titled, Melee Techniques. Got a survival philosophy? Friendship is the real goal, otherwise you may as well be a zombie. Am I willing to hook up with other survivors? yes... but I'm a picky person =^_^= Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of? Its not exactly unique, but its 100% our own =^_^=
The Goal: To specialize in the up close and personal indoors scavenging so that I might fulfill a specialized role in the settlements that will be in existence after z-day while also giving protection from raiders. I'll be protecting the shieldman's flanks and rear.
Primary Melee: Two-handed woodcutting axe. It can be used with a one handed swing for maximum range while having the power of both hands in it, or it can be used as a lever powered bladed punch for grappling distance attacks. I call this, range versatility. It also aids in breaking and entering, and the back can be used as a hammer to avoid it getting stuck in a corpse or to avoid splatter. If grasped it can break free easily with a wheeling motion that puts the zombie off to your side while bringing the head of the axe down to the back of the skull.
Secondary Melee: Tire iron. Its wedge shaped point can pry or thrust powerfully and with minimal range due to the unique hand grip one can get by grasping the right angled handle. The blunt end can break carpels to incapacitate hands while outside of grasping range to make thrusting safer.
Tertiary Melee: Screwdrivers, one behind the back of the head for a quick, tricky "hands up" throw. One near the belt for ease of grabbing during a wrestling match and another on the boot for the same reason, should positioning prevent the others from being grabbed. They are tools, pries, and weapons.
Armor: Leather armor. It covers both the body and extremities and the forearms are easily reinforced with rigid material for added protection. Grocery bags and rubber bands for splatter protection. The leather would be flexible and lightweight. Less bite proof and more bite resistant. A bite would still do damage, though I hope to avoid the saliva getting into the wound. Also, it would be most useful for reducing normal scratches, abrasions, cuts, etc which would open me up to infection.

The large garage right next door to the house consists of a wide open building with two windows about five feet off the ground level a heavy steel door and a regular garage door. The windows would be painted black so that zombies couldn't see us inside with a peephole covered over by a strip of towel duct-taped in place for easy removal.
The garage itself is quite large, plenty of floor space and lots of room between the floor and ceiling. Waste disposal could be carried out by means of chamber pot over the second story window. The second story is reached by steep stairs that lead to a large hatch that can be pushed up. Zombies could likely never manage to get in but if we retreat there we likely wouldn't get out without killing the attackers. Steep stairs ensure one at a time combat where the zombie's head is open for attack before we come within grabbing range. Its falling body may well tumble down and knock over the rest of the assailants so it would be likely that we could regain ground using our axes.
Water Supply? Bottled and very limited. Food supply? whatever we brought in with us.
I think this place would be horrible for living in but a safe area to sleep in while being able to serve as a look out from the second floor. (its really high up. =*_*=)
The House
The house is way better. Access to water (bathtubs and containers could be filled up, lots bottled water already) and plenty of food in stock. Most of which requires cooking to be done out doors or with sterno in doors.
The house itself has sturdy walls with twice the norm for studs making breakthrough less likely. It was built to withstand tornado force projectiles so we figure that would help. The windows are all four feet off the ground, making breaking in slow and difficult.

And hey, knowing our own routes means we could spike strip others... =^_~= make it known that the highways are too dangerous for others. Then blame it on 'dead highwaymen.' We mostly want to take requests for different things. While we will attempt to farm ourselves, we mostly want to focus on trade and inter-settlement alliances. I want to be a very diplomatic sort in the post apocalyptic world. =^_^= Eventually I want to hook up groups with one another and try to get them rebuilding a society.
