This is a Zombie Survival Site yet do not allow your plan a one track mind. There are many other reasons in this world as to why you should always be ready for anything and have your BOB handy.

The reason I will fight
The Reason I Breath
I have been an active Zombie Survivalist for some time. As foolish as it may sound to friends and family, co-workers and acquaintances I have always been outspoken on having a plan and knowledge of our inevitable doom. There are skeptics that choose not to believe and those of us that do, know what will happen to them. If you care for those around you, you will want them to be aware of any dangers that may arise and Z-day should be one of them. They will thank you for your foolishness in the end and look up to you because you will have the know how to stay alive.

Plan accordingly, Plan smart, Plan ahead.

I believe that our nation will come to fall under economical collapse in the near future. How and why I do not know. Zombies, Civil War, Natural Disasters all of these are possibilities as to how we will have to survive. Every man for himself.

MY PLAN:
I do not have a definite plan but instead a few ideas of what to do. Reason? Because we never know what is going to be the final chess piece to fall that will bring to light all that we are preparing forand our plan may be perfect for one but completely wrong for another. OTHER IDEAS FOR OTHER MEMBERS PLANS

If you are planning on staying in and hunkering down then here are some ideas for you.
  1. If you are in an apartment, leave.
  2. If you are in a one story house, leave.
  3. If you are in a two story house, board up windows, destroy stairs, block off windows upstairs, create rope ladders. Good luck on that. I hope you have an attic.
In my opinion it will be suicide to try and stay in an infected area. Supplies will be hard to obtain and water sources may be contaminated. Getting to unpopulated areas will lengthen your chance for survival and will grant you access to supplies given to you by nature. It will also give you the much needed time to establish a permanent base and stock pile provisions. If you plan on doing like I am then here are some ideas that may help.
  1. Go to your nearest RV store and commandeer an RV and supplies such as propane, fuel, and camping gear.
  2. Commandeer a Semi. It can be used as an RV and may have supplies coupled with the fact that it can run for miles and is large if you must make a path.
  3. Large Pickup with a shell or large SUV. The Pickup should be of considerable size and the shell will come in handy. When I say SUV I don't mean your dads Ford Explorer. Look for an H2, Ford Excursion, Chevy Suburban or a Land Rover. Keep in mind that you may be able to grab a different vehicle once out of the majorly infected area.
  4. Find a train yard. As posted in one of my threads you can hypothetically use Connex Boxes (shipping containers) to build a permanent perimeter which can be welded and changed to accommodate your base. Granted you have a welder and torch on hand.
  5. Construction Equipment Rental Yard. I work at one and have spent many days dreaming up ways I can use the equipment there. Why don't I do that then? I live in Vegas, it's overpopulated and the yards are all in downtown areas. It would be a bad decision on my part due to the fact that it would probably be pillaged quickly. If I can find one untouched in a town near by then that will be my first stop.

Have you ever been sitting there in your living room minding your own business when something suddenly happens and you think "Is thsi it, is this the beginning? has it started"? I am sure we've all had a time in our lives when we've asked ourselves that question. What is yours? What did you do?

My latest was about a week ago. I was sitting on my couch getting fat playing with my son when I started hearing a helicopter. No cause for concern, I live near a private air strip but when it started sounding as if 20 helicopters were going by I started to ask that age old question. I stopped what I was doing, got up and went directly out to the porch expecting to see a chinook hovering over my apartment. No, sadly it wasn't but I could still hear the tell tale helicopter blades. Then I came to my senses and realized what it was I heard. Some construction crew was using a hoe ram on the other side of the freeway. Inside the house it sounded muffled as a helicopter would. I looked up and around and sighed. "Not today" I said to myself and dejectedly went back inside to my son.

Please, share your experience for a good laugh or maybe even some insight into what tricks our minds can play on us.

FubarFrank74 Connex boxes from train cars and pre-fenced perimeters 2 Apr 24 2009, 11:43 PM EDT by FubarFrank74

For those of us that plan on making a defensible long term base I would suggest a few different ways to go about it.
1. Connex Boxes. A standard box is about 8 to 10 ft high, 8 ft wide and 20 ft long. They weigh roughly 2000 lbs (1 ton) and can be moved with a simple warehouse fork lift. There is one set of doors on one end that can be latched and locked thoroughly. The thing about these is that if you can find a large enough stock pile and plenty of room and time you can possibly make a 10ft high perimeter.
Where can you find them? Easy, find your local train yard. Plenty of room, empty boxes and there will be a lift on site that is made for moving these. A crude gate can be made by simply moving a box out of the way with the lift as long as you remembered to keep the lift inside with you. Welding knowledge can then turn this from a large steel box into a strong perimeter and actual living quarters by cutting doors into the sides. If you have enough boxes you can also stack them on top of each other and have a 20ft high perimeter, then just install some ladders onto the side (on the inside of course) and you can do recon around your perimeter from the top of it.
2. Pre-fenced in perimeters. Find a large building with a high fence that has a gate and is near resources. This part is all about planning ahead and keeping your eyes open unless you plan to drive all over town looking for the perfect spot come Z-Day. If you see a spot in town that looks defensible then remember it and look it up on Google Earth later for a better idea of the surroundings.
The connex idea is a bit out there but would be well worth the effort as it may also disguise from non-friendly survivors. The fenced in area is a good quick way to go and may even prove to be a good start point before making any real plans.
