About Me:
When I started thinking way too much about zombies:
I was going to a film school where they have the kids make a feature-length film every year. The film (that was never finished) before ours was about zombies. It was terrible, but it made me start thinking about what I would do in that situation. Then I read the Zombie Survival Guide, and that cinched it.

Favorite zombie book:
Zombie Survival Guide. I haven't read any other as comprehensive or useful.

Favorite zombie movies
:
28 Days Later and I Am Legend. I know, I know, zombies can't/shouldn't run. But these movies are the closest anything has come to my idea of a good zombie movie.

My Survival Plan:

My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web:
I'll think of something.

My location:
Austin, TX. We have a military base (Camp Mabry [the link is for the adjacent museum, but it's close enough]), the Texas Capitol (lots of open space, fortified walls, multiple stories high, and has basements and vaults for preservation and protection), and plenty of gun stores, as well as a Cabela's about 20 minutes away.

Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere?
Yes?

Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else?
I'm staying in my home for the first couple of nights, just to gather supplies. I'll go out during the daytime. Then I'll make my way over to a local Lowe's to gather more supplies. When I have enough I'll go to the Capitol building.

If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there?
See "Transportation" in the "Supplies" section.

Got anyone I want to take with me?
These are all people I know personally, and most of them live in my neighborhood.
  • Close friends, immediate family
  • 1 Radio technician
  • 2 Hunters
  • 1 Rancher
  • 1 Stonemason
  • 1 Blacksmith/Sailor/Chef
  • 1 Architect
  • 1 Psychological therapist
  • 1 Structural engineer
  • 2 Electrical engineers
  • 2 Survivalists
  • 3 Eagle scouts.
  • 1 Pilates Instructor
  • 2 Pilots
  • 1 Doctor
  • 1 Dentist

How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route?
Hopefully my neighbor down the street won't be infected. He's a professional radio operator/technician. He's one of those guys with the really big antenna on their car. If he's infected, then I'll find a survivor with knowledge of radio. If I don't find a survivor, I'll teach myself. I doubt the internet would be of any help.

How am I planning to get food and water?
A big river runs through the middle of our town. I'll just use my water purifier and purification tablets, and we're set for water. Also, rainwater barrels. As for food, I guess salted meats and raw vegetables will have to do. Once I make it to the capitol, we can set up a farm and a cooking pit on the grounds.

Got a survival philosophy?
Altruism. Focus on rebuilding civilization. Also, chances are these zombies will be a medical phenomenon, not a supernatural one. So we don't really need to "purge the land" or anything. Kill when necessary. Or when bored.

Am I willing to hook up with other survivors?
Absolutely, it's a necessity. As long as we have a leader with a sound mind and able body, I'm all for it.

Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of?
Bits and pieces from everything.

Supplies:

Weapons:
Transportation:
  • Toyota Tacoma for moving books, films reels, DVDs, CDs and vinyl records, and motorcycles for general transportation.
  • Accessories:
  • Tools in toolbox
    • Shovel, hammer, hoe, pickaxe, Philips and flat head screwdrivers, yankee screwdriver, crescent wrench, socket wrench, vise grip pliers, wire-cutter/stripper, crowbar, tape measure, electrical tester, chisel, handsaw, level, carpenter's square, plumb bob, c-clamps, 55 different kinds of screws and nails, several feet of rope, and three rolls of duct tape

Equipment on my person at all times:
Optional equipment (depending on situation)

A final note:
It seems like everyone wants to be a soldier. Yes, it's an important job, but I seriously doubt many people have the skill to successfully operate any of those firearms (repeating shotguns, fully automatic rifles, etc.), or have the skills to function in a combat situation. In my opinion, we should leave that to military personnel ONLY. Otherwise, you'll get eaten/infected, and I don't want potentially helpful survivors getting killed.
