When I started thinking way too much about zombies: When I was 10 and my parents took me to see the movie Zombie Attack at the drive in. (yes this means I am old) Favorite zombie book: ZSG, WWZ, Zombie Land, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, and Lord of the Dead. Favorite zombie movie: Day of the Dead, Zombie Land, Shawn of the Dead, and Dawn of the Dead. Favorite quote in any zombie movie: Who's Bill Murry?, Put something over that window before they get in.
My Survival Plan:
My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web: Junk Man/Tim
Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? Anywhere, everywhere, any time of day, and any day of the week. Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else? I will stay for a week or as long as I can, in my double wide Mobile Home, if I can? Then I will search for a more sturdy and rural location. If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there? Jeep 2012 Grand Cherokee , 2010 Dodge Sprint Van, Gator, or on Foot. Got anyone I want to take with me? I am willing to take any one, as long as they are useful. How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route? Communications: Cell phone, C.B., and spray paint. How am I planning to get food and water? I keep 4 plus month plus of can, and dry goods on hand for my family of three. I also have 2 months of freeze dried and MRE meals. As for water I have 7 50 gallon barrels, 20 24 packs of 16.9 oz. bottles, and 40 gallon jugsof water stored in my "Man trailer" and in my pole barn. I will get water from the river about 3 blocks away and 5 rain barrels. Later I will hunt, fish, garden, gather and scavenge. Power? I have 7 solar panels (2400 volt each), 2 wind turbines (1400 volts each ), 30 battery storage and distribution system. Plenty to run everything in my home just as I can and do with the power line. What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that?

My First Plan to Survive Z-Day
This plan will be very versatile and allow for constant adaption to the situation as it is needed, so that I am not cornered to a precise plan.
1. Bug in: If I bug in it will probably only be for a few weeks depending on the situations that arise and the type of zombies and outbreak rating. I live in a 14X70 mobile home in a very small village of 250 people. I have supplies (listed above).
2. Church: I may bug out to my church if the zombies and outbreak are of a low style.
load every thing into Jeep.
drive 2 miles to church.
unload
talk to everyone and see what is needed done.
do my part to help the group
volunteer to be part of a scavenging team to find needed supplies.
help in every way I can with the skills, knowledge, and physical abilities I have.
3. Bug out on foot (with time to pack): This is if bugging in for a couple of weeks and the roads are impassible for one of my vehicles.
load up heavy duty garden cart (list above).
grab BOB and guns.
walk to the church and check if it is a good place to stay.
if it's a no go at the Church.
I will go to the community college (steel doors, 1 inch windows), this location will work until I can prepare to head out.
find a 4x4 truck so I can travel off road as needed.
head up north (Michigan), where there is fewer people per area.
barricade a house, and start gathering supplies.
4. Bugging out on foot (fast): This is if my house is compromised.
grab BOB
grab guns (if time)
head for cars.
if I can't get to my cars, head for the church on foot.
On 12/19/2011 Flashlight50 a long time member passed away due to a stroke. He was an entrepreneur who loved guns, survival, and discussing zombies.
He will be missed on the site and by me personally. This site brought us together to become close friends, finding out that we were living less than 30 miles from each other. I shopped at his store, shot at his gun range, hunted with him, played poker, and spent many weekends barbecuing and watching the Pistons, Tigers, and Lions.

The gentleman's posts were always interesting and well thought out. I am sorry I never got to meet the man. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. He sounded like the kind of man to share a drink with and have a good time. Peace be with his closest.

does your club wagon hold as much (if not more) than your jeep grand cherokee? and if so, is it better on fuel economy? because from my limited experience with jeeps, they do okay for a truck when it comes to fuel use (my brother in law owns one, 17 miles to the gallon I think.)

"No my Jeep is a mid size Sport Utility, the Club wagon is an extended van. The Club wagon is one of the large vans with a lot of seats in it, like used for schools, churches, retirement homes and etc. When I bought mine it was the largest van made, I took out all of the seats except the driver and the front passenger seat.
My Jeep Gran Cherokee gets about 20 miles a gallon, the van gets about 16 miles a gallon. "
So lots of cargo space and close gas mileage.... I'd preffer the van if I were in your spot despite the jeep getting better fuel economy because in the initial panic the jeep might get stolen, and I personally think that in that type of situation, it's not worth risking your life over a car unless it has all your supplies in it, or is a major part of a convoy.

I was working on my BOBs today and realized that I only had a 20 gauge single shot bolt action shot gun and a single shot bolt action .22 that my parents could handle using.
I have a double barrel 12 gauge I use for hunting but neither in their conditions could handle it.
I am thinking on a couple of cheep (and I do mean cheep) guns for them.
My father is 72 ex-army but on oxygen,he's fairly strong as long as he doesn't have to walk far or carry much. I don't think he could handle a 12 gauge's kick, jarring him very well.
For my father I was thinking on a semi auto .22,9mm. or any pistol caliber rifle, because he is still a great shot.
My mother is 65 with heart problems and arthritis that makes it hard for her to pull a hard trigger, but still as good a shot as most men.
I am thinking on a cheap .22 semi auto for her?

A carbine in handgun caliber is a good idea, I know people on hear dog them, but I won a High Point carbine in 9mm and it is a good little shooter. Low mag capicity, but otherwise an outstanding little shooter. No I would not want to take in into the field on manuvers, it will never be a military issue weapon. But for home defense and occasional plinking it will do its job well. Load that sucker up with good JHP ammo and your parents should be GTG.

I am considering purchasing an AK, probably a Warsp 10. I have never owned one and was wandering if those who have/had one considered them a valuable weapon.
I can usually get them around here for $350 new. I have a small budget saved for a gun of about $800.
I have priced out the extras I would want for now:
I went a different way with this idea. I attended an auction this morning and purchased a;
SKS ,(in great condition), with: 200 strip clips, case, and cleaning kit - for $90 1200 rounds of 7.62x39 - for $100
So I have a good semi auto rifle with plenty of ammunition, and strip clips, for me. and only payed little over $220 with taxes. Since I was willing to pay $800 for the AK and accessories, and saved $770, I can live with that.
I am going to order some replacement springs, and possibly a new trigger group, just to have extra. I will give it a shoot around tomorrow.
