Gun suggestions
Aug 18 2010, 12:18 AM EDT
I was working on my BOBs today and realized that I only had a 20 gauge single shot bolt action shot gun and a single shot bolt action .22 that my parents could handle using. I have a double barrel 12 gauge I use for hunting but neither in their conditions could handle it. I am thinking on a couple of cheep (and I do mean cheep) guns for them. My father is 72 ex-army but on oxygen,he's fairly strong as long as he doesn't have to walk far or carry much. I don't think he could handle a 12 gauge's kick, jarring him very well. For my father I was thinking on a semi auto .22,9mm. or any pistol caliber rifle, because he is still a great shot. My mother is 65 with heart problems and arthritis that makes it hard for her to pull a hard trigger, but still as good a shot as most men. I am thinking on a cheap .22 semi auto for her? |

A carbine in handgun caliber is a good idea, I know people on hear dog them, but I won a High Point carbine in 9mm and it is a good little shooter. Low mag capicity, but otherwise an outstanding little shooter. No I would not want to take in into the field on manuvers, it will never be a military issue weapon. But for home defense and occasional plinking it will do its job well. Load that sucker up with good JHP ammo and your parents should be GTG.
