Author of the New Jersey Survival Guide (work in progress; thanks Zee-Man for creating the page)

About Me:
When I started thinking way too much about zombies:
What do you mean, way too much?

What started my zombie fixation:
Seeing the 1990 Night remake and playing Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

Favorite zombie books:
World War Z, The Walking Dead.

Favorite zombie movies:
Dawn of the Dead (the original), Slither, Shaun of the Dead, Dance of the Dead (wow, that's a lot of "... of the Dead" movies in one list).

Favorite quote in any zombie movie: "When there's no more room in hell..." you know the rest.

My Survival Plan:
My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web:
KevinR1990.

My location:
I am currently living in eastern Morris County, New Jersey. I live in Parsippany and go to school at Drew University in Madison. I will be moving to Merritt Island, Florida after graduation.

Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere?
Mainly in my immediate area.

Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else?
I will plan on fortifying my home if I am caught at home, retreating to the upper and middle floors and cutting off the stairs to the ground floor. My home is a split-level, with even the middle floor inaccessible due to a combination of height and shrubbery. The kitchen and its pantry are located on the middle floor, part of my home's "safe zone".
If I am at school, I will go to Drew University's McLendon Hall, a six-story, energy-efficient dorm with geothermal heating and a built-in convenience store. It is located on some of the highest and most isolated ground on campus, within short walking distance of the cafeteria, the public safety building and the bookstore, which also sells snack food, drinks and personal items. In addition, the Students for Sustainable Food club (which I am a part of) operates a small garden that can be expanded, growing fresh food for consumption on campus. At least some non-perishable food, drinks, basic first aid items (aspirin, bandages, disinfectant, etc.) and ingredients should be scavengable from the campus.

If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there?
At my house, I have my car and my bicycle. At school, there will be multiple bicycles available as part of the school's public bicycle program, though some of these may be taken in the Panic.

Got anyone I want to take with me?
My mother, who is a registered nurse, and my brother, who is training to become a mechanic.

How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route?
I intend to acquire a hand-crank-powered two-way radio for communication with other survivors. In addition, I will occasionally leave behind notes like "Kevin is still alive".
If I am at school, then it will have to be determined if the transmitter for WMNJ-FM (the student radio station) is still functional, as WMNJ went online-only last year. Getting it back up and running will be a priority.

How am I planning to get food and water?
If I am at home, food will come from searching houses and the two nearby convenience stores initially, and later from small-scale farming/gardening and hunting deer and small animals. Water will come from Lake Parsippany and the Jersey City Reservoir, both of which are a few miles from my house.
At school, water can be sourced from the Madison municipal supply, the water tower (less than a mile from the campus), and from the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge, the source of New Jersey's Passaic River. Food can be scavenged from the campus and from the town of Madison, and can be grown at the student garden.

What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that?
My ideal long range weapon is a hunting rifle, preferably a .30-30 Marlin. Melee weapons of choice are the crowbar I have under my desk, the machete in my BOB, and the shovel in my car's trunk.

Got a survival philosophy?

Am I willing to hook up with other survivors?
Absolutely, as long as they're not crazy bandits.
