My function at the ZSDW: I'm one the ever-helpful and friendly ZSDW staff members. I also host the ZSDW "Postal" Matches, which currently on hold until further notice. As the newest ZSDW Administrator, I have made it my personal to represent to voice of the registered users as best as I understand it, and I attempt to play the role of advocate for the people. In thread discussions, I do my best to educate our members and visitors about survival awareness, urban survival preparedness, hand to hand and CQC techniques, and firearms safety, while supplying ample amounts of creative humor and constructive criticism.

Interests: Survival skills and gear, hiking, backpacking, camping, hunting and fishing, martial arts (Judo and Shotokan), shooting and shooting sports, amateur gunsmith work and rifle accurizing/sporterizing/tinkering, spending time with my family, friends and Airedale Terrier, Quincy.

I'm also interested in my awesome girlfriend, and many of you know her...

Survival Philosophy: Gear is handy, but possessing survival skills is much more important. I think that some of the folks on the ZSDW might think that more gear or different gear will solve all of their problems, but there's only 4 essential components to wilderness survival - a good knife, a way to make fire, a vessel to boil water in, and a vessel to carry the clean water in.

Favorite movies: Dawn of the Dead (both the original and remake), Diary of the Dead, Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Untouchables, The Matrix Trilogy, The Godfather movies, Running Scared, Heat, Walk the Line, Forrest Gump, Shoot 'em Up, Last Man Standing, Man On Fire, The Doors, Jarhead, Road Trip, and MANY more!

Favorite TV shows: Dexter, Californication, The Office, Sons of Anarchy, Survivorman, anything on the Military or Science Channels.

My superpower is: Brutal honesty.

The best word to describe me is: Recalcitrant

If I could live anywhere, it would be: Somewhere in Alaska, totally self-sufficiently...

My dream job(s): US Federal Park Ranger

Well friends,

Today marks my two year anniversary at the ZSDW, well... two years since I created my first account here, Littlejon126, which I've unfortunately had to lock since that e-mail account was hijacked... According to a little bit of research, i was the 1476th member to join the ZSDW, not counting those that were banned before I joined.

Anyways, the ZSDW is definitely not the same place that it was when I first joined. It's matured considerably and in my opinion, it's better than ever before. We've got good members, a great staff, tons of great articles and lots of mall ninja to poke fun at...

Anyways, I am setting a resolution to complete before this time next year. I promise to spend the time and money to build my Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle, as outlined in the corresponding article. I promise to host more ZSDW Marksmanship Challenges. I promise to write more in depth articles, and I promise to at least try to get a video uploaded onto the ZSDW Youtube account page.

Here's the the next 52 weeks at the ZSDW!
~Jon

LJ126 The Truth About Zombies 3 Jun 6 2010, 11:39 PM EDT by RUPREPARED

Friends, let me wax poetic for a moment. I hope this post isn't too shocking... but SOMEONE needs to say it.

Some folks think that gearing up, dressed like Robocop, wearing pads and makeshift duct tape armor is going to be the answer, in the logic that they will be protected from bites from reanimated corpses. This sort of nonsensical drivel is for the birds. Zombies aren't real, unless I missed a very important memo. They're simply a metaphor catch-all sort of thing for real disasters like hurricanes, super earthquakes, major blizzards, long-term loss of power, economical or societal collapse, civil unrest or rebellion, or even home invasion or self defense situations. Sure, its fun to think about zombies eating our neighbors, but let's face it, zombies aren't real now, and odds are that they never will be.

That being said, by preparing for zombies (metaphorically-speaking) you will be able to prepare for ANY eventuality, be it good, bad, or worst-case scenario.

I love zombie movies; from the goriest to cheesiest, I enjoy watching zombies on the big and small screens. Nothing excites me more than to see massive hordes chasing the protagonists around an urban environment, seconds from gnawing human flesh. But that's not why I'm here - I'm here to learn about survival skills, and to share my love for zombie movies with fellow zombie movie buffs. Maybe one day, zombies might actually be real, but until then, they're like Terminator, Predator, Godzilla and King Kong, and only real on the big screen.
