Alright, Im glad you finally stated putting together a plan. Now, you gotta understand: I might be handing out a lot of ideas and critism. But Im just tryn to help you build a safer, fool-proof plan. Remember: Going around mass of zombies while listening to Alan Jackson may be less fun, but being food to Breaking Benjamin is even less fun.
So... More importantly, I would worry about routes to take, back up routes, responses to roadblocks or attacks, etc. These are the biggest problems and threats, and so deserve the most attention. Due to debris and such on the road, it may be impossible to make the trip in one day. Then what? Scout some possible locations on Google Earth abou halfway here, consider fortifications, try to find pictures online to get a real grasp of the location, and think about supplies in said building.
The sparkler bomb is a cool idea, and when it comes to urban scavenging operations, it may work wonders as a distraction, but as a signaling device?... Without a specific plan to meet, its just going to cause a very dangerous situation. As cool as making the bomb may be, what if it malfunctions? Honestly, you may be better off doing this: --- Get a simple firework (One we would have to discuss in private). Work your way around the area until you spot the barges. You must set off said firework (Have extras - we may not spot the first one, some may get wet, others may simply not work for factory error), and when we see it, we would set off the same or similar firework, one you can identify, confirming the identity of each others group. Make sure it is set off a good distance from the rest of your family (perhaps a job for your dad?), so that unwanted attention, be it from zombies or raiders, goes far enough away from everyone. Then, move to a spot where we can pick you all up by boat.
Ill add more as I go - today is gona be as busy as yesterday, and the day before, and the day before...

Another idea for the sparkler bombs is to keep a few handy in the truck - if you get caught in an attack by zombies, would throwing it draw their attention? How about radiers? If there is a spot in the road you need to get through that is blocked by the undead, set off a sparkler bomb in the woods a quarter mile away, and wait for them to run off after the pretty lights, before you can pass.
Another thing to consider is what youre going to load in the truck, how much, how long the supplies will last you, is there anything you can bring that will help us all in the long run, and how will you fight back while in the truck, whether it be against zeds or raiders.
Addition: Where would you even plan to meet up with my group?
