Zombie Baiting: good or bad idea?

As most of you probably know, there is a section in the zombie survival guide on clearing areas of zeds and even setting bait out for zombies. When do you think setting traps for zombies is a good idea, and what kind of trap do you think is safest?

also, consider both fast and slow zombies, as well as other non-traditional zombies (Quarantine zeds, 28 days later zeds, and even the vampires of "i am legend).
