About Me: When I started thinking way too much about zombies: After watching the original Dawn of the Dead What started my zombie fixation: The survival element Favorite zombie book: haven't read one Favorite zombie movie: 28 days later Favorite quote in any zombie movie: "do you mean blood brothers or street brothers?"- dumb chick in Dawn of the Dead (the original) My Survival Plan: My “handle” The radio waves: Orange1 The web: WEB:Orangeampsforever My location: I will travel from either Fernley or Reno to Desolation Wilderness south of Lake Tahoe Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? Home town or close to it. Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else? Heading into the wilderness. If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there? Car and foot. Got anyone I want to take with me? So far I have teamed with member Strungoutfan and our pilot friend How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route? Walkie talkies How am I planning to get food and water? Hunting/fishing and filtering. What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that? Ar-15 until it runs out of ammo. Then we move to weapons I can make with my bowie knife. Got a survival philosophy? Get away from populated areas Am I willing to hook up with other survivors? Yes, but you better have some ammo. Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of? All of the above The Gear Because of my geographic location, during the winter time I would need to carry more than most. If the zombies are moving fast, then I would ditch my tent in favor of a light tarp. This first bug out bag is just the essentials. As you can see, this pack is small, light and maneuverable. A great choice for situations where zombies can move as fast as you. A video of this kit can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UDSWAatFHw This next pack is an extended version with cold weather survival items. This bag weighs 45 pounds not including water. I have showshoed with a 60 pound pack before and if I keep this set up under 50 lbs I will be in good shape. We must also consider any ammo and weapons i might have. 60 lbs is the max I would want to carry with all items included. With this pack I can survive forever in the wild. A multi-part review of this kit may be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0PvlJXda9w Weapons: I recommend using what you have and are familiar with. Also you will want a convenient way to catty ammo and support items to keep your weapon in good working order. Below you can see I have put together a tactical vest and an AR-15. Military calibers are always a good choice because there is more ammo floating around in those calibers and you are more likely to find ammo for your weapon on the road.
