Lol... I don't know about a troll, but come on Pedro you said if I remeber correctly (though I don't have to I copy and pasted) I quote "This entire thing smacks of idealised hippy ********. Advocating people avoid plants with "beans or seeds in pods". So that would be things like runner beans, broad beans, peas, would it?"Excuse me but that made me sad :( cause I worked on a survival manual, and one of the first things was to avoid beans, seeds, or pods because seeds that have matured(sometimes even before) in even the tamest plants are sometimes deadly. |

It wasn't just that one section I was referring to, but several. For example, avoiding plants grown on a farm because they might have harmful chemicals on them. Despite all the hippy ********, agriculture does in fact try and use the minimum amount of pesticides, and they are not poisonous in the way you say. In fact, unless they have just been sprayed, there is practically no chance of getting sick. (Allergic reactions notwithstanding.) If you look at my plan, you will see that I have done a little research into this area.We have people who regularly try and dole out advice on eating wild plants, and I dislike it for several reasons. The biggest one is that generalised advice just doesn't help. People who follow it could miss out on food, or eat something poisonous. Either scenario can lead to death. What is needed is specific tuition for the area you intend to collect the plants from. And you can't really do that over the internet. So rather than tell people to "eat plants" you should be advocating they learn from someone in their area about Wild Food Walks and such. As for your argument about fresh vs. dried food, it is deeply flawed. Provided all the nutrients required are provided, it doesn't matter where they come from. You should be advocating a balanced nutritionally complete diet, and sustainable food source. Post-Z life will mean growing crops, and preserving them once harvested. That will neccessitate drying, pickling, preserving etc. |

That wasn't my arguement. It was just that plants are a good alternative to eating dried foods. You can't just started eating dried foods without fresh foods at first. There are several conditions you could develope. So if you don't have fresh foods. why not have some easy to get stuff. Its easier then hunting. (If you know what your doing)Second. You were kinda being mean, because the first of its proven that pesticides do lead up to cancer or illness if not washed off. And the beans, seeds, and pods thing is the basics for any one who reads the handbook... not that anyone does. Also I said that a park or forest preserve was a good place... as long as you bring a little bit of protection. I wasn't telling people to eat plants :( I don't like them... but if people start getting the shaky and sometimes diarrah inducing illness because you are only eating dried foods, and you can't get fresh meat, plants are a good alternative... plus I actually like clover tea :) And on top of that I didn't even get the rest of my article up before I get the people raging on it about how wrong I am with plants. It wasn't just plants, but now I'm feeling deppressed and I cant find the Word document I saved it to. It did indeed have a short nutritional guide to how to keep your diet balanced. You need to have atleast 3% fresh food a day at first, so you slowly ween yourself of the luxury. Just stopping imediately has dire effects. Sorry if anything was misunderstood, hope you aren't made at me. And I also hope you see my point. |

(If you know what your doing)Again, just found this, so I am going to reply. You can live quite comfortably eating dried food for weeks and months. Physically, at least. Mentally, it might be a bit taxing. But it is possible, with no deleterous effects. You say you could develop conditions by doing so, yet cite no specifics or sources. You say it is proven that pesticides cause illness or cancer, yet again cite no sources. |

As for the rest, I can't stand by when you say things like "avoid food at farms" and "eat plants in the forest" because both these things are wrong."Edible plant walks" are classed as one of the most dangerous activities for urban people, because too often they are led by amateurs who teach recognition skills poorly, and overconfident idiots eat hemlock or similar poisons because they mistake it for something nutritious. You don't get ill from eating just dried foods. You get ill from eating a poor diet. Dried foods contain or lack nothing that would make you sick. 3%? Where does that number come from? Why not 4? 5? |
