My Survival Plan:
Bugging in unless there is no other option.
My BOV: '90 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 4x4 w/Mud Terrain tires and other selected goodies. Used regularly. Clearly I use it as a Jeep is intended to be used. 155k miles on it. Runs like a champ.

*I now have a comprehensive Survival Kit in my '90 Jeep Cherokee 4x4, to supplement/ take the place of my backpack.*
I use an old external frame Kelty pack. It's from the '80s but it was built better than most of the modern ones. The pack comes out to approximately 26lbs currently, not including the gun. I am working on buying a single shot 12g shotgun than I can split into two pieces and tuck in the backpack. That will cut down on weight and help save ammo.
I may be old fashioned, but at least it's tried and true.
Left Upper Compartment
(Camp Kitchen) 1989 three piece pan set, salt, lemon pepper, penny can stove, spoon, matchbook, pot stand,Bic lighter, hot chocolate.
Main Compartment
Left Main:First Aid kit(Khaki bag), washcloth, Cammilus (Kabar) knife, 15min road flare. Central Main: Canteen, 16oz water bottles(3), Jello, Top ramen(2), 100ft Paracord, duct tape.
Right Main: 1L water bottle with 4 granola bars inside, 2 ziplock gallonbags, 55gal trash bag, 9'/7' camo tarp.
Right Upper Compartment
Toilet Paper, Glasses w/ case, personal hygiene kit (Saline solution, 2 pairs of contact lenses, toothpaste, disposable razor, dental floss.)
Left Lower Compartment
8oz denatured alcohol in flask(fuel), Top Ramen (1)
Bottom Compartment
Hiking socks, underarmor shirt, thermal bottoms, undies, work gloves, belt.
Right Lower Compartment
LED maglite, Snap-On multitool, compass, ferro-rod, petrleum jelly cotton balls, Bic mini lighter, sewing kit w/ fishhooks, 10 zipties, fishing line 8*, sharpening stone, signal mirror, LED headlamp.
Shotgun
Mossberg 500 5+1 12g #4shot (2) on stock (strap hangs on frame when hiking)

I keep the Mossy, Rugers, 30-06, and the Marlin in my room. They are registered to my parents, though they are 'mine'. I can't legally own them until I turn 18.
90% of our ammo is in my room, since I'm the gun lover in my family, along with my dad.
The others, I can access, being in easy to reach places or in safes. There is only one safe of three that I have yet to get the combination to, but all that is in it is the Daisy .22, the Hercules, and the DB.
The BOB stays right next to my bed with the Mossberg right next to it, just in case.

In addition to the survival guide you have. There is this book on the market. Its a great big brown book. The name slips my mind. However, it is a COMPLETE , COMPLETE, COMPLETE guide to almost anything you can imagin in the wilderness. Mushrooms to eat, strong weeds to use as string. What water is good/bad. etc. I will try to find the title. I have read it and.... WOW.
