Been seeing ideas a lot about this just thought i would add a idea or 2.

First pending on the boat swimers can be easy to avoid ..sailboats are hard to get aboard with out the help of a labber.

Also being from Michigan freshwater is easy but winter will be harsh. Was planing on going down the mississippi but i here of low bridges ..if i go east out the saint lawrence seaway but then i would have to lrarn how to ise the locks

That's kind of a rough plan ..that or dig in and use the boat in summer only for fishing and winter in a good location
