wouldn't photosynthesis be your secondary means of oxygen in this case?
also the bloodstream does carry food to your muscles and all but dont you think this would make Zed's crave kidneys? thats where we store all of our high energy reserves after all. also I don't see the need for acid per say but maybe a natural anticoagulant to prevent thickening and a stimulant to increase flow.

o.0 good point... maybe they do eat kidneys I don't know. lol But the blood does carry food in the form of sugar and glucose.
