If held up in a safe house what defenses would you make

Sooner or later the human instinct for permanent shelter would kick in for even the hardest of road warriors. But a compound must be fortified with defenses. Which ones would you choose

A double stacked chain link fence should do well in most cases

What about a moat?? I know it sounds silly but a ditch 12 feet by 12 feet could certainly slow a zed down

it could work but It takes alot of work to dig one.that and if you dig it to close to a building you risk its harming its foundation. and it could take up land that could be used for farming.
