About Me:
When I started thinking way too much about zombies: Honestly, when I first saw the show "The Walking Dead" on AMC on Halloween night 2010.
What started my zombie fixation: See above.
Favorite zombie book: Comic- bet you can guess.
Favorite zombie movie: Original Night of the Living Dead. Scared the mess out of me when I was a kid.
Favorite quote in any zombie movie: Will have to think about that one.

My Survival Plan:
My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web: Almost everything I do is some form of my username, herbsandivy.
My location: 20 miles east of Nashville, TN

-- Currently working on my survival plan. There are things I need to put in place/build before I can really set a plan up. I can say that the plan would be do stay home for as long as possible.
We're currently working on setting up a solar power system that will run our house (we're working with the electric company on this so we know what we're doing). Also working on an underground fall-out shelter of sorts to hold most supplies and us during the panic. These things will take time to make so as of now I am totally unprepared with just a few ideas as to where I could go. Still new to all of this. I am wanting to create a survival plan that will be valid for most "events." I.e., nuclear war, flood, tornado, non-US military occupation, any sort of infection, etc.

As of now I cannot really fill out the bottom portion since I am still formulating my plan. I will post a plan as soon as I have one ready and have everything in place. Until then my plan is pretty shoddy and I know there are too many holes in it to post.

Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? Anywhere, I suppose. I mean, once it starts it's bound to get to where I am eventually.
Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else? Home for the first 3-4 days, then heading out.
If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there? Truck or by foot if necessary. We have some wheel boots we'll put on our vehicles until we're ready to bug out just to make sure they're still there.
Got anyone I want to take with me? All these are hopefully but my plan will not break without them: Husband, son (4), brother in law, his wife, his little girl (3), my mom.

How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route? Right now we'd have no true communication with the outside world as we have no radios. We would like to eventually get a HAM radio, but have not gotten it yet.
How am I planning to get food and water? See detail of plan below.

What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that? I have a .22 lr with 1000 rounds as of now. I am wanting to get a 10,000 round stash but need a little time to do so. My brother-in-law has guns... ones with lots of power behind them, but I have no idea his ammo situation. My mom has an old-school wwII revolver my grandfather gave her. She has about 20 rounds for it.

Got a survival philosophy? Whatever it takes.

Am I willing to hook up with other survivors? Depends on the person or group I suppose. I am not very good at judging people, but my husband is. I would depend on him to choose and if he was not with me, I would just go with my gut.

Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of? No? Don't think so anyhow.

My house is in a neighborhood with hundreds of houses so I know I will be dealing with many undead should Zday occur. However, you will not see me leave my house for at least 3 days... maybe more if there are too many undead still aroud.
I will not be running to Wal-Mart or CostCo or a gun store. Everyone else will be there killing each other off over the last jug of water, pack of energy bars or AK-47. I have seen what happens here during light panic. The grocery stores run out of milk, bread, water and beer immediately. Wrecks occur more frequently as everyone is in a rush to beat the guy behind them... etc. I will not be in that crowd. Remember the Black Friday Wal-Mart video? I do.

The only place anyone in my family will be going is 5 houses down to get my brother-in-law, his wife and her little girl. She's one year younger than my son and they have NO blood relationship as my brother-in-law did not father her. We would try to make it to my mom's, too, as she is only a 5 minute walk away. She always has a ridiculous amount of non-perishable food and a .45 from WWII with a little bit of ammo... definitely enough to get us back to my house. My husband will be the only one to do this. He is stronger than I am and quicker. Also, he is a type 1 diabetic so if we have to lose ANYONE in the beginning he has volunteered to be it. It's sad as hell... but we have to think ahead. If I go and die it's only a matter of time before insulin is non-existant and my husband dies.. leaving our son possibly alone. No.

My husband and I have collected enough good, thick wood to cover all windows and doorways. We will, of course, leave one window unbarred in case we must escape. It is a nice high window that is rather small. It's height is ideal as it is too high to crawl into from the outside but not too high for us to jumo out of without injury. We'll also utilize the attic for picking off zombies with my recently purchased .22 rifle. Yay rifle. :) It has a scope and it gorgeous.

Or, if it is completed, we'll set up for 3-4 days in our fallout shelter. It's big enough for the group to live in... maybe not all that comfortably.. but live. Also has plans for toilet area and water and food storage (they'll be on opposite ends, trust me). That's where the year's worth will do if/when we get it.

We have enough canned/non-perishable food in the house to last at least 3 days at all times. Of course we will have to make sure we keep this food rotated so it's always fresh. If we get my mom then we will have even more. I am hoping to eventually get a year's worth supply of food but I currently don't have the money for all that.

As far as water goes I plan on filling EVERYTHING fill-able with water FIRST. Tubs, sinks, bowls, etc. We have 10 empty gallon jugs under the sink, too. My son knows this is his job. I also have a 72 hour bag in the hallway closet with enough food for one person for 3 days as well as water purification tablets. It will have 3 survival straws in it as well. One for my family, one for brother-in-law's family, one for my mom. I would rather have one for everyone, but they just need to buy their own if they want their own... not much room left in my bag.

3 days later or whenever the area is clear enough----
Where to go....

Several options--
1) Elementary school, 5 minute walk-- one 12 foot tall perimeter fence with barbed wire on top and another fence just around the school with no barbed wire. Generator- not sure how much fuel on hand. Food- lots of it, but no way to prepare it or keep it cool should th generator not work or be without fuel. We could farm and there would be game, but not much of it at first. We'd have to scavenge until the farm came in. Also, there would be first aid kits, AEDs, and medications. All kids have to keep their medicine at the office-- insulin!, inhalers, antibiotics, epi-pens, etc.

Old person's neighborhood across the street-- we'd have to clear them out but once done their homes would be medicinal goldmines.

Downsides-- too many damn windows. Maybe we could use the cafeteria tables to board them up. Who knows for sure. My child will be starting there next year so I plan to have much more info on the place then. Also, it would look very appealing to a group of survivors and we would have to work hard to keep it ours.

2) Father-in-law's place. Guns, ammo, high ground, low population density, livestock, room to garden and a large amount of farming tools. Also, he has a radio tower on his property. There are about 20 within sight of his back door. They have solar panels and batteries. Could also use them as look-out points. Old man across the street is a mormon and cans food... he is a widow so he could join if alive, if not we'd just take his food.

Downsides-- downstairs has two sets of sliding doors. It would not be easy covering them but it could be done. Water source has dried up, too. We would have to hike to get it until we dug a well. Food would be minimal in the house as my FIL eats out and has NO pantry. However, game is plentiful. Not much hope of finding much insulin around. :(

3) My work-- 4 story tall hotel. All doors lock when closed. All. Locks are electronic and run on batteries. They last about 6 months with constant use so I would hope they would last a while. 80 guest rooms each with 4 AA batteries in the locks and 2 AA batteries in the remote control. Remove those batteries from all but 10 or so rooms and use the hard key to access them if needed. I have two hard keys that open every door in the hotel.

Large amount of non-perishable food and there is a small pond about 15 minutes walking distance away. 4 well-stocked first aid kits, lots of melee weapons in the maintenance room, enough personal hygiene stuff to last quite some time: sewing kits, ear plugs, shower caps, shampoo, soap, conditioner, mouth wash, lotion, shoe shine mits (could be used to filter water), etc. Oh, lots of coffee, tea, and filters. Tea works well as an antiseptic. Will have to look up uses for coffee.

There is roof access which would be handy for taking out any unwelcome guests/zombies. I would use the .22 lr if needed and if not... the hotel is FULL of expensive electronics that would be not much use post z-day. I mean.. what are you gonna do with 100 48" HDTVs with no electricity or cable??

Quite a few houses within short walking distance as well as many businesses. 7 different pharmacies within an hour's walk-- insulin.

There is a Army reserves base and municipal airport within a 4 minute walk of hotel as well. Would be good for scavenging after a while.

Downsides- very nice hotel and would be desirable to others. Reserve base could be a bad thing, too. I dunno. Located directly next to Interstate 40 so it's VERY visible to people on I-40. Many lower level windows 3 of which are two stories tall. We'd have to move supplies upstairs and block the stairwell entries. Not hard to do as we locked our GM in there for 2 hours once before we let him out, but still.

So that's it. For now. I am constantly adding to this and changing it as my plan evolves. I also always keep an eye out for other places that would be good to hole up in should my plan go to ****. I have no idea what's in these places or how great they would be, but it'd be better than outside since my town is quite populated.
