BoB bags
May 25 2010, 12:25 AM EDT | Post edited: May 25 2010, 12:25 AM EDT
I recently heard on this website of something called BoB's which i believe stand for "bug out bags." I would really love to prepare one not only for a zombie pandemic, but for natural or manmade disasters too. Could you please give me ideas possible for a 14 yr. old to get?
(ex. water bottles, first aid kit etc...= OK
ex. sub machine guns, tactical knives = BAD ideas for me
Do you find this valuable?

I suggest you flip through some of the BOB's (or JIC's as I call them, just in case) that are posted. There are a wide variety. Most are based on the users current plans.

If you look to the box on the left, that link should show all of the posted bags that people have made pages out of. Give them all a good read, and decide what you like and don't like about these. There is no cure all "this is the one" bag. Doesn't exist. But there is a ton of good info in there to help you choose what to add.
Some are light for more of an urban use, mine is probably the heaviest on the site but I am planning to spend a very long time in a harsh, near desert climate and will be needing to pack more of certain things that would be easily accessible in an urban environment, but non existent where I am going.
There are a few members that I would suggest asking advice, Ironhand primarily, though most of us will be more than willing to give our opinions on your bag. Some might be harsh so prepare yourself. As for you being only 14,
not to worry. There are plenty of ways to get a bag ready that are super cheap, realistic, and don't contain a bunch of guns. Just remember, this is a thing that should be evaluated and updated regularly.
I am currently in the middle of completely overhauling mine do to a recent move.
This is easily one of my favorite hobbies and I like checking, rechecking, and checking again what's in my bag.

Ran out of room. One thing I would do, is before adding a page, or making a very long and hard to follow list on a thread or profile. Make an initial bag. Put in it what you have RIGHT now, and see what kind of starting point you have. Shoot, my bag still has a pine scented candle in it due to funds. Lol Get you list together on word or notepad and email to someone. That's what I did with Ironhand, he's a bit slow coming back every now and again (winks at Ironhand) but he provided some things that had completely slipped my mind. We are more than willing to help. Just ask, and don't get upset if you don't like the answer.
