When the day does come that we are invaded by the undead or some other, possibly less supernatural, threat I doubt i will be on the front-lines of combat.
Don't Get me wrong I love my friends and family and would walk to the end of the earth for them, but my interest's lie elsewhere.
I'm a fiter and turner by trade, im working my way to be a mechanical engineer and im nearly there, and i have a background in state boxing.
All in all, ill be the guy building the defences, producing the weapons and leaving the combat to the others.

I do live in Australia, so i have limited access to firearms but i know plenty of people who do.
However i do own a crossbow, several hunting knives and a self-made, brass morning star.

I MAKE STUFF!!!!
Its what I do for a living and a hobby.
i am not a fan of anything that requires explosions, I prefer compression powered or spring loaded, its just the way I like to do things.
When I want to make something I go through a certain routine...

-Thought stage. This is when the idea is in my head. I think it over carefully and try to figure out all the pro's, con's and if its possible. Alot of projects dont make it past this point.

-Design Stage. OK, so ive decided to have a crack at making the contraption. First i make ALOT of rough sketches. Trying to figure out dimensions, weight, material, cost and difficulty of the build. Then i move onto CADD to finish off my designs and make some final adjustments.

-Material Collection Stage. if I can't get the materials to make it then I've hit a dead end. Sometimes this can be the hardest and most time consuming step.
I go to places like swap meets, garage sales, and junk yards... I only purchase raw material if I have no other option.

-Manufacture Stage 1. This is where I machine, cut and grind material to length and size. I then do a rough build, avoiding welds and tightening bolts too much. Just to see if everything goes where it's supposed to

-Manufacture Stage 2. Weld where necessary, do up all the bolts and finish off the project.

-Completion. Maybe give it a polish and a clean, check that it actually does what its intended to do.

Job Done

CURRENT PROJECTS
-4' Tall 'Universal' Spring-Loaded Ballista (By universal I mean it will have the ability to fire anything that fits in the sling, not just premade bolts, so thing like broken bricks and scrap metal will have a use ) This started out as the 'Molotov Launcher'--- Design stage

-Manual Water Pump--- Near Completion

-Carbide Bandana (Basicly two ordinary bandanas sewn together and filled with a mesh of carbide peices, this allows it to maintain flexibility.)--- Material Collection Stage

-Semi-Automatic Cross-Bow (A head-ache of a job)--- Design Stage... has been for months

I love to start new projects, so if you have an idea for something awesome that you want to see made, but you dont have the time/resources/equipment, send me a pic and some instructions and I'll se what i can do

Like i said earlier, I'm not a soldier, I'm an engineer.
I will give advice where i can or when asked, please don't hesitate to do so.

I was just curious where you got the statistic that only 3% of soldiers in the Second World War meant to kill enemy troops and that 97% only took potshots? Also, was that just the Allies or Axis as well?
Do you find this valuable?
