Following railroad tracks
Oct 6 2009, 5:13 AM EDT
One of my contingencies is to follow the railroad tracks out of town. No cars, very little foot traffic, and if you run across a locomotive they usually have a six-pack of water bottles. If you're hoofing it way out of town, the tracks might be easier than overland travel, and safer than the highway.

I found an interactive railroad map that some of you might find useful.http://www-atlas.usgs.gov/natlas/Natlasstart.asp |
