About Me:

When I started thinking way too much about zombies: A year ago. What started my zombie fixation: Movies and games Favorite zombie book: World War Z Favorite zombie movie: Zombieland Favorite quote in any zombie movie: My Mama always said I'd be good at somethin'....now she probably never thought that somethin' would be killin' zombies.
My Survival Plan:

My “handle” should you look for you on the radio waves or web: Timber Rattler
My location: Midwest Is my plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? Home Town
Will I be staying in my home or headed somewhere else? Home if possible. Somewhere else if necessary
If I'm heading out, how do I plan to get there? Truck w/ trailer Got anyone I want to take with me? Wife, kids and dogs
How will I communicate with the outside world, or do I plan to go the hermit route? CB. Spray paint on roof for airplanes and helicoptors.
How am I planning to get food and water? Scavenge and hunt. Raise chickens and rabbits. Plant a garden and can. Harvest fruit from orchard and can. Store potatoes and carrots in root cellar. Cut ice from nearby pond and freeze meat in root cellar. Fish and trap. Use a gas powered pump or a hand pump to pull water from well.
What’s my weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that? My mind. No. Its fully loaded.
Got a survival philosophy? Sit back in my little corner of the world minding my own business. If anyone I don't know comes near rattle off a warning. If that doesn't work strike hard and strike fast.
Am I willing to hook up with other survivors? Yes. If I know them personally. Wouldn't trust anyone who wasn't a family member or neighbor I've known for a long time. Family is what matters most everyone else is just strangers.
Is my plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist other survivors may have heard of? ZSG

Without meaning or purpose a life is merely an object occupying space with no value.~Carnack.

True freedom requires sacrifice and pain. Most human being only think they want freedom. In truth they only yearn for the bondage of social order, rigid laws, materialism........ The only freedom man really wants is the freedom to be comfortable.--A quote from Jax's father's journal in the patch over episode on the Sons of Anarchy TV show.

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life".~John Lennon.

A rifle is like a human. The stock is the skeleton, the scope is the eyes, the action is the brain, and the barrel is the heart. But you, the man behind the rifle, you are the soul.

Death has never been picky over heroes. It's more, if you live, you'll be a hero, if you die, you'll be a martyr, if you die and fail, you'll be labeled an idiot. -John_234

Yes I may die tomorrow or two seconds from now but if I maintained that thought process I'd be sacrificing every chance at happiness I have. When you focus on the end of the journey, the journey ends without ever taking a step.~Carnack.

"There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.

Hey I did the quotes section on your profile, makes good reading.

I too appreciate the importance of quotes. There have been millions of very clever people pass through this life, and between them they have left a huge amount of wisdom. It is wasteful to not learn, at the very least, a little of this and pass it on so that others may do the same.
I mourn for all the people who haven't heard any of the names you've mentioned. Apart from Rick Warren lol, I'm not a fan of him.
I could babble for hours on the philosophy of this, but I think I've made my point :)

"Sit back in my little corner of the world minding my own business."

Alot of folks here talk about wandering off to who-knows-where, but I have always thought that the best place to survive is a place you've lived your whole life. There's nothing you know better than your own home. This is why I would stay put, even if many think city survival would be tougher. It's what I know.

Great minds do think alike.

What to look for in a tactical shotgun, the basics:
Gauge: 12 is all around best and most plentiful, 20 is next. 10, 16 and 28 are all niche will less loadings and availability
Chamber: 3 in is standard for 12 Ga and increasingly available in 20 Ga
Capacity above 5 (which is the majority after you take out the plug in pump guns), 8 shots is standard and very few have 9 or more. Mossberg 590 comes to mind.
Barrel length: 18 in is standard for 6 & shot 7; 20" for 8 shot. With the advent of screw-in chokes, the length of barrel does not make a difference between 20 & 24 or 20 & 26.
Operation/type: pump is most reliable and cheaper; semi-autos are also quite good but more expensive. Avoid doubles/singles and bolt actions as primary weapons. Good in a pinch but not optimum and do not meet capacity criteria

I am partial to pumps and in particular the Rem 870 model layout. As decades of happy owners can attest, I am not alone. That is my preference and since I own Rem, Winchester and Mossberg pump actions, Browning semi-auto, Huglu (Turkish) semi and Charles Daly semi I can say that the pumps are less finicky and intensive to use.

My recommendation: at least one pump (2 is better) and one semi-auto in the same gauge with 20" barrels, 3" chambers. Both Rem and Mossberg offer low cost models that meet the basic .
Other options include finish, sling mounts and the very important ammo bearing devices (butt cuff, sling bandolier, vest, belt, bag, etc)
