most underrated weapon?
Aug 24 2010, 11:03 AM EDT
So what, in your opinion, is the most underrated weapon for the zombie apocolypse?I would honestly say fire. Fire has been portrayed as taking forever to kill someone, when in reality it actualy sucks the moisture out of you, killing you far quicker than as portrayed in movies. |

Ooooh really!?! That is a good one then =^__^= I couldn't see the thing's senses surviving for more than a second or two if lit ablaze now that you mention it. I'd have to give this one some thought. I think shields and axes don't get nearly enough credit, I think they'd be awesome. =^_^=

I could see crossbows being pretty good for silent killing. They're easier to aim than a regular bow, pack quite a punch too. Ammo wouldn't be very plentiful though, but hopefully more overlooked?

Well, its a lot more quiet than a gun right? It wouldn't reach nearly as far and jeopardize an entire base?

"90 db is about the same volume level as a .22lr"well thats good, .22s are quiet enough that you don't need ear protection. |

"... as portrayed in movies."Most things in movies and games. Remember folks bandaids fix all wounds, Doesn't it anime charactor "my chest was gouged open before slicing deep wounds in my legs" "here have a bandage" |

"90 db is about the same volume level as a .22lr"Yes, but the .22 is a sharper *crack*, even though the volume is the same, the rifle shot would still carry further. And you can get string silencers for bows and crossbows that reduce the noise still further without having to paperwork them to death. |

For one thing, they'd just give the Zeds something to grab onto, and for another a shield only protects you from one direction at a time. It would only help against one or two Zeds at most. If they came at you in numbers, as they always seem to do in the movies, then they'd simply walk around the shield and attack you from all directions. Now if you were using the shield to fight from a bottle-necked position, like a doorway or something so that they couldn't surround you, then it might be a bit more helpful, but even then it would give them something to grab a hold of. |

"what if it had a spike(btw I'm talking about ragers. shamblers don't need preparing for.)"A shield with spikes can be an effective weapon, but remember, a shield can only be used as one thing at a time, either a weapon or a shield, but not both at once. An unmoving shield, used defensively, won't do much damage as a weapon even if it has spikes. Even ragers wouldn't rush you with enough force to impale themselves (through the skull) on the spikes. Now once you start swinging the shield as a weapon, then yes you can generate enough force to do some damage, but then the shield is moving around and not covering your body the way it should be (think: lines of riot cops) and so won't afford much protection. And BTW, could you explain this comment? "shamblers don't need preparing for." |

"So what, in your opinion, is the most underrated weapon for the zombie apocolypse?Yeah, but zombies don't need the moister in their bodies, I would say the crowbar, Because most people would pick a machete, or a gun, but the 'bar doesn't run out of ammo, and its useful for so many other things. |

"crossbows are not silent, the "twang" sound from the sting can reach 90+ db.Our crossbows for hunting are extremely quiet. When practicing the only sound you hear is the arrow hitting the target. |

"And BTW, could you explain this comment?Necro-bump. Shamblers don't need preparation for as they're to slow to pose a threat. It's like preparing for a turtle invasion. |
