Thought I'd share a little story from last night for some light morning reading.
Last night around 11:30 I was laying down to go to bed. Suddenly I hear a loud crash. To describe, it sounded like people crashing through drywall or a closet door. My next door neighbor is an older woman who lives by herself. I thought she was being attacked so I grabbed my .45 and ran outside. Once I get outside, I see what really happened. Two drunk teenagers lost control of their car and drove it over a bunch of trash bags (dragging trash everywhere) and slammed their car into the side of my neighbors house. Then I had the pleasure of my terrified neighbor and two drunk girls look over and see a grown ass man standing outside in his boxers holding a pistol. I asked if everyone was ok (they were) and I went back inside :$ To everyone here (especially you teens)...please do NOT drink and drive.

To any moderator with pertinent information:
I checked my Inbox tonight and found a message from about a day ago. The member who sent it was marked as banned, which means that he or she must have been banned within the past 24 hours. The member was claudiababy55. Anyway, I'd like to find out whether this was a mass PM, or if I was one of a relatively small group targeted. Also, does it seem that this was regular, bothersome troll activity or was it something more malicious (attempt to pass infect with a virus, etc.)? Thank you for any information.

You could also use an angle grinder to reduce surface area on the hammer side, making a +. Kind of like this.

Okay now I might be a black sheep on this but I don't make it a habit of checking the Codes of Conduct regularly. Might I suggest that when a rule is changed the Mods/Admins send out a sitewide PM to notify us? Just a general outline of the change and/or reasoning for it if required and the CoC page link.

Guys,
Let me make it crystal clear that the ZSDW always has and always will have a zero tolerance for trolling and baiting, and that offending parties will be permanently removed from our online community. I hate to be forced to bring this topic up yet another time, but the correct course of action when someone is trolling either you personally or the forum itself is to report the incident to the volunteer staff so that the content can be locked. One of our moderation team will be with you as soon as humanly possible. I would also like to remind you that those members who resort to childish antics do so out of desperation; they lack the maturity or intelligence to bring about meaningful change using conventional methods. Childish means achieve childish ends. ~Jon (LJ126)

I have a quick question and I apologize if this isn't in the proper place...
Is there a way to see when the last time a member was logged on to the site? Not necessarily posting or contributing anything, but maybe just checking on their profile or something. I have been trying to invite members as friends, but haven't had any luck (maybe they're ignoring me!) Then I investigate further and see that they haven't posted anything for 2 years or haven't even created their profile page or something. I haven't had any activity for a while (other than this thread and a few profile updates) but I log on often to do some research and see what's going on. I just thought if there was something in a member's profile that said when he/she was last logged on, other members could have an idea on how active that person is or if they are even still around. Just a thought....

"Why did fill-in-the-blank staff member shut down my politically charged thread? Nobody was arguing or even disagreeing, and it appears to be a topic that we all feel is a good thing!"
In short, these discussions almost always start fights. Nobody here can say that they agree with another member 100% on political issues. While folks on the site might agree with specific ideas, there's rarely agreements on the forum about it. It seems like folks just look for reasons to disagree with one another. Also, since most members tend to be on one side of the bridge or the other, name calling and group-think propaganda are perpetuated pretty readily. You'd be amazed how many times I've heard something to the effect of "Liberal retards" this or "paint-huffing Conservative" that - of course I'm paraphrasing and exaggerating but just do a quick glance around the site, you'll find it. This immaturity destroys any hope for a legitimate, sustainable discussion. All of the above neglects that politics/religion are both EASY topics for trolls. They'd love to tell you how your opinion or religious conviction is wrong just to get you fired up. It's happened more than once in the last four years when we've tried to have open discussions on these sensitive topics. While I'd love to talk politics with other mature members of the ZSDW, the fact is that this simply can't be done in public. There's always someone who will turn it into a fight or capitalize on our emotions and personal beliefs. ~LJ126 PS: Let me know how you feel. I'd love to hear the opinions of the moderator candidates on this topic too! Tell me what you think folks! PPS: Don't turn this into a political debate, just share your opinion and move on. Be open to other viewpoints. Remember, we're talking ZSDW policy here, not political views!

As you are all aware, the ZSDW is a near-constant magnet for general issue trolling and trouble makers. None of it is new material, nor is any of it original; trolls aren't clever enough to come up with intelligent ideas, so to account for this lapse in creativity they do everything they can to get a rise out of you and me. Let's face it, if they had intelligent and productive things to share, they'd probably not be trolling the site in the first place because they'd be busy interacting and participating like our awesome ZSDW community does.
Don't let a troll get the best of you. If they're stepping on your toes, being rude or stirring up problems, the best thing you can do is ignore it. This eliminates the attention they crave, therefore removing any power that their twisted, sad minds have given them. It knocks the wind directly out of their sails when you don't acknowledge them in any way. In order for a troll to be effective, they have to be actively causing problems on the site. This means that it's a matter of time before we - your ZSDW staff and WetPaint administrators - remove these members from the user pool. Just be patient and we'll handle each situation as promptly and efficiently as possible. Thanks again for being part of the best online zombie survival community on the web! ~LJ126

I read the thread on what to do if I think this page is ready, and that would have led me to PM 16 Moderators and 111 Writers, and that struck me as spamming. If that is still the desired way to submit page re-writes I have no problem doing it, but I wanted to check before sending 127 PMs.
Either way, this REWRITE is ready to go live: http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Scrounger+Training%3A+Military+Equipment+%28REWRITE%29 It is a rewrite of the Military Equipment page. The current page has the word yellow, and some military flares, and clearly states its a work in progress. The replacement page(s) contain information on Large (20mm+) Ammunition, Small Arms ammunition, a general ammunition overview including crates and markings, Hand Grenades and some plagiarism of the Maritime Flares stolen from the original page. I do intend on adding to the pages, especially military communications equipment and vehicles, but the pages as-is are complete and ready to go, and there's no way a reader of the pages would know more is coming. I'm also willing to add information as questions are posed - the grenades page is a response to a user's request. |

Please pick one. You can give your reason why and discuss if you wish.
a) I definitely believe zombies are a very real threat. b) I believe it is possible. c) I have my doubts about zombies. d) I don't believe in zombies for the time being. e) I'm a strong disbeliever and it would take a lot to make me believe. I am at b). While I haven't seen much yet to make me believe they're real, I believe they could become real.

This is something I've been thinking about through my time in the chat. I'm in the chat just about every day, sometimes for hours at a time, so I've gotten a good feel for it. But I've been noticing some problems. The biggest problem is that there doesn't seem to be a real code of conduct for the chat.
Generally the chat is subjected to whatever the personal tolerances of any operators/admins are in there at the time, which can make for inconsistent behavior. Generally there's nothing to keep people from arguing and clogging up the chat with insults, and one member in particular has taken advantage of his power in the chat to say and do pretty much whatever he wants when admins are gone. including banning people from talking in chat for telling him to calm down. The chat is in SERIOUS need of some kind of rules. Right now it's "Whatever I say goes" and it's essentially impossible to challenge whoever has power. Chat can very easily dissolve into chaos or a sort of dictatorship under one op who's having a bad day. It can instantly become a hostile environment if you piss off anyone with any sort of power because there's nothing to keep them or any of their friends in check. I have logs in case any staffers want to see them and see what I'm talking about. This is NOT good.

So I'm skimming the site trying to get a feel for it when I stumble across this page. I just had to join to find out who in the hell thought that these are the top ten. I don't even understand how some of them could make the top ten let alone make it so high in the list. M1 Carbine? Really? What are there about 10 of them left in the world? Mosin-Nagant? Really? A ancient cheapo relic is what you want to trust your life to? I'm sorry guys but you need some people to join who actually know something about firearms. I'd start by inviting some people from the GlockTalk forums to begin with. You kids need an adult here who can explain to you the ends and outs of firearms. Don't go getting all mad, you all just need a serious reality check when it comes to rifles. This list would be laughed off most gun forums. I understand this is a kiddy site where you play pretend but at least inject some realism into your discussions. You could start by including something about food, water, shelter and clothing post-apocolypse. These things are important too. How about talking about BOBs (Thats what folks on survival forums use to break down bug-out-bag.) Its a back-pack that survivalist create in case disaster strikes and you have to get away from your house quickly. I could make a list of what most of them carry and share it with you so you'll know what to pack. This all might sound crazy but these are the things they talk about on real survival sites.

Hey guys! As you know my computer is fried for the time being, so the few times I check the site are on my girlfriends Mac (yay...). Just so you guys know, I have declared Kansas to be a huge failure, and with my lease running out soon, we have been going over a lot of options on how we will keep our head above water.
After long discussions with both of our families, we have decided to move to Washington within the next 2 months while Kiya gets certified as a nutritionist and I pursue a possible career in law or possibly politics. I will be starting as a freshmen at Seattle University (hopefully) in their pre-law program sometime in April. We are busting ass at the moment trying to find an apartment, jobs, and money to cover our moving expenses. I don't know what this means in terms of my activity here, but I promise that I will still put as much effort as I can into the site (aside from the couple things John keeps bugging me to finish, lol) as I can. If my performance drops, I completely accept being voted out of a staff position until I have more free time to dedicate. If you guys are wondering the specifics of my career choice, I want to either be a human rights attorney that deals specifically with cases against the DEA violating patient's rights in medical marijuana raids OR become a lobbyist for NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). Wish me luck, lol.
