Accuracy International Arctic WarfareModel: Accuracy International Arctic Warfare
The Arctic Warfare rifle series is a high end sniper and target rifle that has been adopted by a number of militaries and police units around the world. Since the introduction of the Precision Marksman (PM) in 1982, it has been a huge success in civilian, police, and military sales. The Arctic Warfare series, introduced in 1983, is currently the most famous line and is the infamous "AWP" that has angered and pleased many Counter-Strike players. The Arctic Warfare's main upgrades over the PM were a larger thumbhole, trigger guard, magazine release, and bolt handle to facilitate use while wearing thick gloves or mittens (as the Swedish military had requested) and new de-icing features to allow for use at temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Variants include an integrally suppressed version, a version with a folding stock, a short-barreled suppressed version with a folding stock to allow for covert use (even being packed into a briefcase), and the famous Arctic Warfare Magnum chambered for various magnum rounds, such as .300 Win Mag. The AW50 is a scaled-up rifle chambered in .50 BMG.

Among its users are the British Army, which designates it the L96A1, the German Army in .300 Win Mag as the G22, and with a folding stock as the SR-98 in the Australian Defense Force.

Complexity

The AW was designed as a military rifle that could also achieve great precision; it uses a bedding block to mate the stock and barrel, rather than attaching them directly, to give it a very strong (if heavy) build and very precise accuracy not affected by stock warping. It has a modular design, allowing for it to be modified to any user's specifications. The bedding system is actually so popular it's become available as an option for the Remington 700.
