firstly, I am very nervous with any plan involving heading to a major store as soon as you suspect an outbreak. Odds are a lot of panicked people will already be looting the place and this may very well get violent. I would thus recommend trying to buy some of these supplies in advance. For some food you could set a side a tiny portion of the annual crop from the farms. Secondly, for latrines any system works (there are some good ideas on this site) and placing it as far as possible away from the house is clearly preferable. Thirdly, be sure to consider the extremely high price of solar panels.
4) I would definitely consider bolstering your fencing with barbed wire as well as adding defensive ditches (preferably with spikes), traps, and possibly walls (see digging in section of website for info on all these fortifications). These additions could (and should to prevent hostile/bewildered reactions of neighbours) be completed after Z-day. 5) Deciding whether to bug in or bug out- If you live close to a major urban area (you never specified how close you are to the city centre) of Kansas City (within a few miles) I would STRONGLY recommend bugging out because there will be a LOT of zombies heading your way, most likely more than enough to overrun your defenses. 6) Bug out location- I idid some research and have some good potential locations you could bug out to: 1. Elsworth Survivor`s RVE- if you are willing to trust someone you can try to connect with them as well as a few other RVEs near your location. Just look in the Rendezvous and Evacuation Points section of the website. 2. If you can take the milder weather there`s a lot of low-population area up north in Michigan and other great lake areas (including in Canada assuming the border is still open/unattended due to Z-Day). 3. If you can take cold weather the area just south of Hudson`s bay also has good hunting and is sparsely populated.

If you're going to leave and find a new location, you're going to want to have a set location. You don't want to be roaming for a location you don't have. Unless you already have a set location, I wouldn't travel so far. You said that you want to head somewhere north. When you go north it gets colder and you get longer winters and less time for farming. Kansas isn't that bad of a location. You're already there and Kansas has good farming (or so I hear). The main problem I see with your plan is you don't have a destination.

Hey man great plan...One thing I would suggest is dont plan on using your cell phone or land line or even your computer for internet cause if the outbreak gets bad enouph all of those things will go down because no one will be alive to operate them....I suggest working into your plan a CB radio or something that will be the best....just suggesting
