Achinaghost52's Survival Plan, Kansas City, KSThis is a featured page

Please bear with me as i am not sure what the different levels mean, this will be a work in progress, taking some time to perfect, please comment and try to help me out. thx
i am not listing too many specifics about guns, as long as it shoot straight, puts em down, and we got ammo, we'll use it
Part 1: prepping home/getting ready to leave
step 1 - since i live in a mostly one story ranch home, i will board up the ground windows, leaving observation/ventilation/lighting slits. i then plan on reinforcing/inspecting the fencing throughout the back yard (my home sits on a 1/3 acre lot, pictures soon) that way i will have room for growing food if need be. i will stock up on non-perishable food stuffs and water, ammunition, and call friends to see their plans/possibly coordinate. i will prepare my weapons and set motion sensors rigged to alarms in my room (for the night time). i have no plan to actually stay in my house right outside of kc for any length of time.
step 2 - once i have determined that i am reasonably secure, i will contact several pre-determined friends (we have already established the who's in and who's outs) they include a gunsmith/gun collector (ben), a farmer(preston), and a guy that owns a 2008 chevy 3500hd dually crew cab along with three 30ft deuce n halves(arnie) and one or two others who arent as important or central
step 3 - we will remain in close contact, surfing the web, news, anywhere we can get info on the severity of the uprising. ready to but out at a moments notice

Part 2: Bugging Out

step 1 - if we decide to bug out, we will all drive our respective vehicles to arnie's house, pick up his trucks, and convoy to each of our houses gathering supplies and setting up an overwatch (two guys loading, two guys watching/patrolling). ben's house will be the most difficult because he has a medium sized generator, a gun safe with 22 guns inside, loading/reloading equipment.

step 2 - we will then convoy into northern usa, we are not sure exactly where yet, but we sure as hell dont want to stay in the middle of the country or near population centers.( we could use advice on locations) we plan on finding a defensible house (long sight lines, close access to clean water, preferably on a hill, away from other houses) and hopefully (this is where the plan gets sketchy) we can work with whoever is inside or it may already be abandoned.

Part 3: Digging In
i have already listed our preferences to housing. it will obviously need power so we will acquire soon solar panels, and maybe even a wind turbine.
step 1 - we will make sure zeke's cannot get within approx 100yrds of the house (preferably) but 50 yrds will do. we plan to accomplish this by either a ditch or fencing or combination of the two (i know that 50yd radius requires at least 315 ft of fencing) hopefully we will be able to steal or borrow a trencher or backhoe or some farm equipment to help this process. we will also use the motion sensors from my house in this new location
step 2 - we will begin to fortify the house, probably with 2 guys out scouting and drawing maps of the area. we will also build a two stage gate, so we can enter and leave. it works by having two sets of gates, with enough room in between to fit a vehicle. you open the first one, drive in, close it, clear out the z's from the outside of your gates, open the second drive out, and shut it.

step 3 - if the outbreak has not reached us yet, we will go out raiding ie local walmart, home depot, gun stores. (we will have credit cards with which to purchase goods if the infrastructure has not broken down yet)

step 4 - stockpiling ammo, food, water, clothes, shoes, books maybe,
fuel especially. charcoal, firewood, diesal, some gasoline (we may obtain a four wheeler or two for use as a run-about)
we will also guarantee our supply to water, be that implementing a system that draws it out of a pond into the base and through a purifier.
building supplies will be important, not just 2x4's but shingles, welding supplies, sheet metal...

step 5 - weather and season permitting, preston will plant crops, most of which will be harvested by hand
step 6 - continued food supply - chickens, a cup or two of water a day, a pound and a half of feed a week ( we plan on raising no more than 5 permanent egg-layers, and of course a few to eat) we would pick up approx 1000lb of feed (enough for approx 2 years)

latrines are up in the air, please comment or share on what you would do

Part 4: Living
reproduction - i am not opposed women and the whole reproducing aspect, but i am not sold on it either. if we brought women, they of course would not have to be a liability. be able to do their share of the work etc etc please comment on your views

day to day grind - we do not plan on shooting z's every day, we will observe numbers at first, when they appear to stop coming, we will make calculations to see if we have enough ammo to kill them all, if we do. we will probably kill a few the first day, with smaller caliber weapons (less noise). and observer the next day to see if there are more of them. card games (poker, blackjack) chess, hopefully weights will keep us occupied, as well as settling into a safe routine

routine(everything in pairs, different pairs each week) - patrol to check fence integrity, eat, lookout duties, maintenance, radio watch, weapon/vehicle maintnance. please list other daily duties you think may need to be done

firstly, I am very nervous with any plan involving heading to a major store as soon as you suspect an outbreak. Odds are a lot of panicked people will already be looting the place and this may very well get violent. I would thus recommend trying to buy some of these supplies in advance. For some food you could set a side a tiny portion of the annual crop from the farms. Secondly, for latrines any system works (there are some good ideas on this site) and placing it as far as possible away from the house is clearly preferable. Thirdly, be sure to consider the extremely high price of solar panels.
4) I would definitely consider bolstering your fencing with barbed wire as well as adding defensive ditches (preferably with spikes), traps, and possibly walls (see digging in section of website for info on all these fortifications). These additions could (and should to prevent hostile/bewildered reactions of neighbours) be completed after Z-day.
5) Deciding whether to bug in or bug out- If you live close to a major urban area (you never specified how close you are to the city centre) of Kansas City (within a few miles) I would STRONGLY recommend bugging out because there will be a LOT of zombies heading your way, most likely more than enough to overrun your defenses.
6) Bug out location- I idid some research and have some good potential locations you could bug out to:
1. Elsworth Survivor`s RVE- if you are willing to trust someone you can try to connect with them as well as a few other RVEs near your location. Just look in the Rendezvous and Evacuation Points section of the website.
2. If you can take the milder weather there`s a lot of low-population area up north in Michigan and other great lake areas (including in Canada assuming the border is still open/unattended due to Z-Day).
3. If you can take cold weather the area just south of Hudson`s bay also has good hunting and is sparsely populated.

If you're going to leave and find a new location, you're going to want to have a set location. You don't want to be roaming for a location you don't have. Unless you already have a set location, I wouldn't travel so far. You said that you want to head somewhere north. When you go north it gets colder and you get longer winters and less time for farming. Kansas isn't that bad of a location. You're already there and Kansas has good farming (or so I hear). The main problem I see with your plan is you don't have a destination.

Hey man great plan...One thing I would suggest is dont plan on using your cell phone or land line or even your computer for internet cause if the outbreak gets bad enouph all of those things will go down because no one will be alive to operate them....I suggest working into your plan a CB radio or something that will be the best....just suggesting
