Is it possible someone is going to be able to make there own guns after a while it seems reasonable since it seems like eventually the guns and bullets will be extremely scarce and hard to find so it seems like people will have to make there own eventually

gun cotton is a tadd more complex than that it is far more than a simple mixture of two acids soaking in cellulose. I will not go into details due to the possibility of misuse.

HAHA. So I got an idea while surfing youtube. I found a video about green tip 5.56 62 gr NATO ammo. Military desig. is the M855 cartridge.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dGxRw8Jq70&feature=fvwrel http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM223C-5.html
The video, and then proof that its legal to have. While I'm sure several of you are aware of the capabilities of such a round, watching the video makes me think "damn, those kids/people that want to go mad max on their cars are in for a shock"
Makes me think that way to such a point.. that I'm considering a 5.56 ak from arsenal now just because of seeing that video. Then again, a 16 inch barrel won't be producing the same velocities. Regardless, I felt it necessary to bring up to show.. quite the nasty effect of some ammunition that costs just a tad bit more than standard NATO 5.56.

"Not only that, but layering is also key. Having two half inch pieces of steel with a one inch gap between them is more effective than a single inch thick piece of steel." this is true. i'd be a little worried of the extra weight... but if anything id use chains welded to the top of the slanted armor and hang loose plates (simple chainmail effect) a round hits the mail plate causing it to swing hopefully and hit the other plate not penetrate it... and hope it didnt add too much weight. the more weight on the vehicle the less you can carry in the vehicle....

Depends on the firearms you are holding.
5000 rounds gives you 13.7 rounds per day for 1 year. So, figure out your average rounds per day (including target shooting, setting scopes, training new shooters, etc) and factor how many years you want to plan for.
Note that even good rounds kept in dry conditions are going to loose quality and reliability over time. When I first got my .32, it had some rounds with it (around 1910-5) and they smoked out as often as fired clean.
For your handgun, a single box of 50 rounds should last you a lifetime. You are very unlikely to survive enough close call situations to go through 50.
For long term sniping, training, and light hunting, a .22 is king, and you likely cannot stock too much .22 ammo. You want to have so much that you don't have to worry about rationing it when it comes to sniping Zed or taking pot shots at yummy squirrels at range.
For your big gun (long rang, high power, anti-raider and big game) you also want as much as you will reasonable use within 50 years (this will vary based on local population, game, and raiders). A few thousand, however, will likely carry you.
The real deal is shotgun shells. You will never have enough of them. They are the easiest shells on earth to use (little training), reload (with hand tools in almost any garage), and find (everywhere).
Sure, there are lots of .223 in law enforcement - but how many of those will be burned out before the cops are overrun. Shells, however, will still be sitting in the bandoleers of every cop.

nontoxic rounds are millions of pieces of copper dust compressed into a bullet when they hit somthing hard like a plate of steel they break back down into millions of peices of dust but against bullet proof vest (the kevlar kind not plate kind) they cut through it and keep going
could be useful against raiders with body armor

I have dispatched many a coyote with the V-max and it is not a little wound. The 30cal V-max will nearly cut a coyote in half. An even better one is the Barnes bullets the MPG that thing is 140gr bullet with a powdered mix of copper and tin. Highly frangible. That will more that do the job on any 2 legged critter. Remeber we are pretty soft skinned.
