Are Rage Zombies Possible?

SuperSoldierRCP- I think its possible but unlikely

UnUndead: I have come to the conclusion thatrage zombies are impossible. Here is the evidence:

1) Rage zombies attack humans with what seems like the intent to kill, and infection is spread though bites. Since rage zombies are extremely fast and aggresive, their blood will be flowing vary fast, and therefore leaving through cuts, including bites, very fast. This would lead to major loss of blood, and finally exsanguination. You try being beaten half to death and then sprinting a mile. I doubt you'll be in good shape
2) The infection to zombification times are extremely short. Do you have any idea how fast a virus would have to reproduce in order for a host to even start showing symptoms that soon after infection?
3) They projectile vomit blood! I very much doubt they'd be able to do that many times before death by bleeding.

Those are my main points. Please feel free to discuss and try to counter my arguments. I made a number of assumptions for this argument, all of which can be summed up by, "These are the things in 28 Days Later." Please make your arguments under the same assumptions, for the sake of argument. I am trying to disprove the rage zombies from 28 Days Later as a possibility, not rage zombies all together. Please also give evidence for your claims.

byates: Rage type zombies along the lines of C.H.U.D. might be possible. Longer incubation time than 28 days type, plus seem to have enhanced healing ability. Spread slowed by fact that they tend to consume the bodies, not many left to turn, and the person has to be alive until they turn.

IFB254- No, they are possible early on. A newly formed zombie still has most of its gray matter intact, along with its musculature. Factor these in, and you won't have a speed machine, but one that can come at you at a reasonably fast rate.

UnUndead: After thinking about it a bit more, I've come to the conclusion that rage zombies are indeed possible, but only a very slight minority of people that get infected would become rage zombies. The evidence I wrote above only says they would have a very short lifespan and a very low chance of turning humans intozombies, not that they are impossible.

This means that even if every single person on this planet was infected, there would be only a few million Zs, asnd those would die off very quickly, due to their violent nature.

I doubt they're speed is increased in reality. The documentaries from 28 Weeks and Days later probably made them LOOK fast. They probably run. But not at super-sonic speeds.

Just for your information, ragers don't primarily bite, if they do, it is with the intent to kill. They usually attack like an enraged person though, pinning them down and beating/punching. They often vomit blood onto uninfected, but not in copious amounts. It would only take one rager in a very crowded place (panicked evacuees?) to spread it to a lot of people in a short amount time, people wouldn't be able to get away or fight back (imagine the scene in 28 weeks later where Don gets into the underground safe zone, if they didn't get out how many would have been infected?).
I have to say I must agree with the incubation period though, but considering an infected who acts normally for a few hours or days hasn't exactly made me feel better, they would likely spread it further unintentionallly.

I think that rage zombies are possible. I don't really remember a lot about 28 Days Later, it's been about a year since I saw it, but I'll just use UnUndead's points.

1) Rage Zombies Heartrate
The first point was all about bloodloss. He's saying that because the zombie moves so fast and so much, that its heart has to beat really fast and that, becuase the infection is usually spread through bites, that it seems logical that the zombie would bleed out.
I counter by saying that if a virus is capable of making someone attack humans with that kind of wild abandon, isn't it possible that it also makes blood clot quicker? I don't really know exactly how, but I'm sure it could do it.

2) Infection times
I agree here. The infection time is extremely short, and probably impossible. Of course, 100 years ago people would have thought cell phones were impossible. I dunno, I'm just saying that the virus could do it, maybe.

3) Projectile Vomit
He's saying, once again, that bloodloss is a big factor. I go back to the virus probably knowing what its doing before it does it. It may be able to up blood production.

I'm just saying; a virus can do some incredible stuff. Check out the page titled Parasites and Zombies?, it gives some good information.

I watched that movie and i beleive that it's completly impossible for the rage virus to work they way they showed on the movie......I see the rage virus in a different sence. i see it as the VSV virus which produces at about the same rate as HIV that normally takes 3 days before symptoms can be noticed...The rage virus would just change their state of mind by destroying protein in the brain into a animalistic mind which would hunt any type of meat food source and the only way for them to know not to kill their own would be chemicals released from the body. that way after three days of being bite you have terrible migrains till you eventually turn plenty of time for your wounds to heal....maybe even in that time of change the body would already be releasing the right chemicals so other infected do not attack you while your still changing
