The Gathering

Living in a small town is a huge advantage, distant from the densely populated areas of the major cities and such. The first thing to do is call up everybody you know and have them meet in one place. Only temporary for me would be my house, prolly only for like a day, just to get everyone together that you can. Keeping everyone quiet as possible and watching all entrances, we wait through the night. When morning comes; we make our move.

The Defense

Assign everyone with something to do, gather food, wood, weapons, supplies, what not and load up the vehicles. Assuming by now you'd have at least 100 people, you all get to a larger building, for me, it would be my school. Unload everybody and everything and start blocking off all entrances. Very simple task, take a school bus pull it in front of an entrance, slash the tires. Then fill in whatever gaps are left with wood, or bricks or something. Then station people on the roof with guns, obviously only needed if things get bad. Shoot as little as possible, sound attracts zombies. School has a limited amount of supplies, but if your not a pansy, go do your job and get supplies for your fellow people. Again simple, get a truck, raid a house a day or more, and take all the food. Yeah sure it could be dangerous, but even if zombies were fast, they still wouldn't be hard to kill, small town of 500 people, most of which would be with me surviving. Anyway, get food bring it back. While doing that, others are working on defense. Get people stationed at all entrances just to make sure they hold. 3-5 should be plenty of people, crowbars are good, guns just in case. So there you have another temporary defense, obviously can only last so long. Now, another great idea would be to fill up huge 1000 gallon tanks with water. You don't have any? That's too bad, Ive got two. Obviously thats not infinite, but its a frick ton. Now were to get all this water? Why not your local water tower? It's got plenty, and only a quarter for a lot, not sure how much. I'm sure there is a way to get around paying for it, worry about that when the time comes. So now you should have tons of supplies gathered up from the town, the water tower, and the school. Don't just sit around now! There could be others that need saved, you must move. Obviously thats a lot of people to move, but you'll have left over school buses, no big deal. Buses can conveniently move people and supplies. I would definitely also bring some tractors with me, ultimate killer. Just drive.

The Move

Now where is in my opinion the best place to go? Yeah yeah, Wal-Mart is OK, but if you have enough people, why not go to the mall? Sure, lots of entrances, but again you have school buses, and a parking lot full of vehicles, plug up the entrances. The mall nearest me isn't even close to the center of the city, more on the outskirts, and around it is a Wal-Mart, Target, Hy-Vee. Freaking set, right there, for a long time. And perhaps others that decide to join us. Calling everybody to call everybody. Perhaps 1000 people or better by now. Not so hard to defend a mall anymore, and besides, most mall stores have gates to close them off, close the ones by the windows. :D Of course take all the same measures as you did while at the school.

The Spread

Once all is secure and people are starting run out of room, we simply take over a Wal-Mart or Target, primarily for people to stay. Simple

The Stand

After all is well and people are safe, you should definitely go out and kill zombies, get a few trucks, get a team, get out there, and kill.

Other

If all else fails or they're rage zombies from 28 weeks/days later. Well then we're pretty much boned. I then would then have really no idea what to do to be completely safe. Maybe hid in a grain ben. Pretty safe in there.
