Barricade Materials |

Version 33 - view current page

I was wondering why there were no pages on how to barricade on here so I started this one. Feel free to add on any thing you want. I could especially use help on getting photos and formating them the same way as the the sandbags.
Thanks- Hazard13

Materials:

Barricade Materials - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki2x4's: Let's start from the beginning, shall we? You should always have a few of these lying around, just for z-day.They are cheap, fairly strong, and no hardware store would be complete without ALOT of them. While I would not say that you could nail a couple of these down and stop the advances of the undead forever, they are a good start.

Barricade Materials - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiPlywood: Same as above, but you trade off strength for area. Probably best for blocking off your upstairs windows and not letting light out. Do not use downstairs! I've broken a lot of these just by giving them a good kick.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SandbagsSandbags: There is a reason that armies all over the world rely on these. If they can stop a bullet, then they can probably stop zombies. These are great because you can fairly easily set them up and they are available at most hardware stores for flood protection. Also they can be used to make existing wall higher. The only problems I can see is that YOU can construct them in to an unstable wall. Nothing worse than having your fortress wall collapse on you, pinning you so that the undead can get at your yummy insides without a fight.

13th.Casualty:
It also would be good for flood prevention in case of a hurricane or broken water line.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Concrete Masonry UnitCinder Blocks: Same as above but these are for your more permanent home. Why barricade when you can make your very own wall? These things can be reinforced into the ground using cement and rebar. These would make a decent standalone wall, but my dream wall would be a chain link fence topped with razor wire, in front of a sandbag wall, with a cinder block wall behind the sandbags. Even hostile survivors with sledgehammers would have a really hard time getting in! Not to mention the intimidation factor.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bricks
Bricks: Kind of like brittle little sandbags that have to be grouted together. I'd put them in the realm of 2x4's.

Sheet Metal: Think plywood on steroids. It also can be used to reinforce cars, trucks, and even clothing if you don't mind looking like an idiot.

Dressers, Desks and Tables: Not a bad idea if you wake up to the screams of your neighbors being devoured to throw some furniture in front of your most obvious entrance, but I'd go with the raw construction materials over a dresser any day.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Institutional Security FenceChain Link Fences:
While not a very good anti-zombie defense (raise your hand if you saw the Dawn of the Dead rem
ake and/or Land of the Dead) can be used to stop hostile survivors taking apart your sandbags from the outside. Plus it looks pretty intimidating with razor wire on top. Chain link can be found around your neighborhood and used to reinforce your windows. Along with the steel poles you will be able to fashon your home into a well hardened target!

13th.Casualty: Plus, if you run an electrical wire through it, it can serve as an electric fence.

Abandoned Vehicles: There are bound to be plenty of these around following z-day. Obviously these are for perimeter defense. The downside is you can't really stack them on top of one another, unless your in a junkyard an know how to operate the crane's electromagnet.

Pallets: These are made to withstand tremendous amounts of weight, and are great for windows, but not much else.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TrenchTrenches:
These are just great, if you want to go outside for a few hours while being ripped apart by zombies, to dig a hole that you'll probably only make three feet deep. Seriously, if you even try to make a trench, then the zombies deserve to win...

Earth Wall: Just like a trench, it will be a waste to make one unless you are in a permanent camp. They will serve as excellent defenseive measures but will take time to construct.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Barricade Materials - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiRhynoliner Spray-on Truck Bed Liner: (not really Rhynoliner, but close enough) Here is a spray-on liner that is supposed to protect the truck from a bomb blast so it is not completely destroyed. A Discovery Channel show called SmashLab used it to protect a cinder block wall from a couple pounds of dynamite. When sprayed on both sides, the wall was able to stand up to the bomb.

Tires:
Stack them like bricks fill them and pack dirt into all the empty spaces. This makes a very very sturdy wall.

Tools:

hammer-1.jpg
Hammer: Don't even think about it. Too noisy and too slow.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Porter Cable Nail Gun.jpg
Nail Gun: Good for securing wood materials quickly and easily, but not a long term solution.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

screws.jpg
Screws: Go screw in everything that you just nail gunned in.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

04-01030.jpg
Bolts: Preferable to screws, but really just optional.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welding: Simply the best method of securing anything metal. Unfortunately, you have to be good at welding and both surfaces have to be metal.
