Birthing and Pregnancy in a Zombie world
R
eproduction is a natural part of the world. No matter when it happens, there will be pregnant women on Z-Day. What about after Z-Day? When will be a good time to start to repopulate the world? Will the child be affected as well if the mother is bitten? Would you take in a pregnant woman to your group? These questions need to be answered!

In all likelihood, members of a given survivor camp will be forced to breed under specific tribal controls to prevent inbreeding and other undesirable effects. Indeed, it’s not improbable that every few generations or so, various villages will trade “breedable stock” (child-bearing age young adults) to ensure this genetic viability continues.
One of the more unique facets of these controls might even include orders to produce specific sexes of children. Believe it or not, you can select your child’s sex (refrence). There’s a couple that runs a sex shop in San Fran that’s been selling kits since the ‘70’s (though they come explicitly with no guarantees, in 30± year in business, they’ve never gotten a single report of an “error”). These same controls may also rule that certain members of the village may not breed, or do so only after certain tests of fitness have been completed.
A good way to have a wide genetic base would be to have a large, multiracial survivalist group, with as few members from the same genetic tree as possible (e.g. Do NOT bring your entire extended family with you).

Personally, if I had a stronghold ready I could see myself taking on a pregnant woman to my group... only if we had enough food and supplies on hand to handle one though. What do you guys think about the subject?

brought up on this page was the idea of how long we should wait before we start having kids again after z-day, i know i wouldn't really want to have to take care of my kid while fighting off zombies everyday.
Also, has anyone considered the fact that hard labor with a low protein diet lowers fertility? so maybe waiting won't actually be a problem once we run out of food |

Amongst the issues of breeding after the rise of the skin jobs is a need to maintain genetic viability, balance of females to males (of course, this can be controlled), and to ensure genetic inferiors do have a chance to breed.
