Browning BAR SafariModel: Browning BAR Mk II
The name of this weapon has caused some confusion when discussing it. While the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR, was a squad automatic weapon used in World War II, this Browning BAR is a semi-automatic hunting rifle chambered in a large variety of cartridges. The BAR is unusual in that the magazine floorplate is hinged, allowing for the magazine to hang from the bottom of the rifle for loading. The latest redesign is from 2004 and the rifle is still in manufacture.

There are several models, Safari being the most luxurious and including an engraved steel receiver, high-quality walnut stock, and the Ballistic Optimized Shooting System (BOSS) for reducing recoil and enhancing accuracy via an adjustable muzzle break and weight. The Lightweight Stalker has a plain aluminum alloy receiver, matte black synthetic stock, and iron sights. The LongTrac and ShortTrac models have a plain aluminum alloy receiver, plastic trigger guard and floorplate, and stylized stock; the basic rifle has a plain walnut stock, the Stalker has a matte black synthetic stock, and the Mossy Oak has a composite stock and the entire rifle is painted in camouflage.

Where to find

The BAR is a high quality weapon that can be found in any reputable store that sells hunting weapons. This quality commands a high price, with price ranging from $1000 to $1500 depending on the model and specifications.

Complexity

The BAR is a hunting rifle, not a combat rifle. While noted for its reliability out in the field, very few (if any) rifles have actually seen combat conditions. Keep this in mind and make sure your rifle is kept clean.
