So i have been considering a bag that will accommodate gear and weaponry and i came across the eberstock series which includes the gunslinger. Basically they have a built in gun carrier. Does anyone have any information on the reliability or durability, hell even if a gun carrying backpack would be needed?

AK-47
pssh no, while your at it do you plan on carrying an eleaphant? most types average almost 5kg i would never take a gun that averaged over 4kg. at heaviest take an m16, i think you should go for an m1 carbine.

ALL YOUR JUNK:I love how everyone seems to ignore the 'normal person' listing at the top. Last time i checked, a normal person can't run, climb and jump with an 80lb duffel that measures over a meter.
FOOD: Food won't be much of an issue. No matter where you are, there will always be canned or dehydrated food. Straight out of the gate i agree with alicestar...all you really need is a few energy bars to fill in. Any have any of you kids had MRE'S? No? Well they'll give you the shits for weeks. Not someone you want on the run. WATER: Purification is easy as pie, so don't stress. A good pump filter will remove 75% of bacteria. Boil to take you to 90%, and add iodine to take you to 97%. Carrying a small bottle or Camelback will keep your lips wet. And once again, bottled water is everywhere. WEAPONS: Everyone goes on about outlandish weapons as if this is a dream world. Good luck finding that FNP90 with a suppressor. Even if you live in the states, that weapon is a dream. Not to mention ammo...good luck with that one. Keep it common, as most stores carry 5.56 or 7.62. Most hunting rifles operate on .308, so the AK47, and AR15's and most 10 clip semi-autos will suffice. As for your handgun, stick with something in 45acp or 9mm. Avoid FMJ's on a 9mm, as it will go through and through like a thread through a needle. The downside of the 9mm, is that it runs at a higher pressure, which means a higher chance of damage. Stick to the 45 with lead - HP or PHP will carry and airflow into the wound causing the real damage. Shotguns are as common as it comes. 12g buck will tear a limb off with the right choke, and you can find shells in country stores. No joke. MELEE: If you can't one hand it, don't bother. A 32" machete is your best bet, as you could chop bricks all day long. But a smart man will run the 32" crowbar. Crack a skull, lock, or have an extra 2 and a bit feet of reach.

ok, time to simplify this a good bit. we are planning this incase of zday, not a class 1 or 2 outbreak but massive 3 or 4. you gotta get out its not just for a couple days, you are going to have to SURVIVE in the wilderness so i bring to mind the rule of 3's as i state a rule i will post a few examples of what you will need to go with it
You can die in... 3 min without medical attention as comprehensive of a first aid kit as you can get while keeping it light. take suchure kits-i simply go to the local hospital and ask for it, since its not medicinal i get it no problems duct tape-as good as as any bandaid if you thro a small piece of gauze on the middle over the wound gauze pads- get at your local walmart for 50 cents for 20 either hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or alcohol. i find alcohol easier to cary and a good fuel source for fire starting in a pinch so i am carrying a small bottle of rubbing alcohol. be creative, anything you MIGHT come across in the wild that can hurt you, figure out a cheap, small light way to take care of it and pack it in the first aid kit. 3Days without water this is simple folks, the average gallon of water weighs 8lbs. thats alot of weight to carry around on a long run. instead head somewhere where there will be water and filter it. they sell a stray to do this, or simply pack a couple paper coffee filters to filter out physical items and checmically/boil treat the rest of it. poof clean water less weight 3 weeks without food ALL SMALL FURRY MAMMELS ARE EDIBLE!!! you have a gun for protection from zeds (hopefully) hunt, pack some snare wire and trap. eat off the land 3zeds can overwhelm you. take 3 melee weapons as well as your trusty rifle and pistol (if you choose pistol) and train train train. become an expert at everything you got, and the best way to practice survival......CAMPING go to a national forest, tell the guy you which way you are going to find you in 3days and go

While at Dollar General Monday, I started thinking. What if you are without your BOB? What can you find to improvise a quick, cheap, and dirty BOB? So, I looked around and made a quick list from what was in that store. Here is my list and reasoning.
Back to School Pack $8.00 - you got to put the stuff somewhere. Food Chicken of the Sea Tuna foil pack $1.15 Chicken of the Sea Pink Salmon foil pack $1.00 Del Monte Harvest Select plastic box pack meals - $2.25 Zataran;s Ready to Serve foil pack meal - $2.00 Hormel Compleats plastic box pack meal - $2.25 Notice about the above they are all packed in plastic or foil, no heavy metal, and they are ready to eat as is, no prep. In the case of the plastic box pack, you have a plastic box to re-purpose. Drink Bottled water 16 OZ - 3 for $1.00 Campbell's Soup Heat & Sip - $1.50 The bottled water has a screw on cap so can be refilled and reused. The Heat & Sip I have my doubts about it's value weight ratio, but it does give you a drinking cup after you empty it and wash it. Misc Westinghouse LED Flashlight w/ 2AA batteries - $3.00 Primary light Roll Duct Tape - $3.00 repair stuff Rival 12 pc flatware - $3.00 beats eating with your fingers, keep one set and throw the rest Rival 3 pc Knife set - $3.00 weapons, improvise sheaths from cardboard and duct tape, one in pack, one taped to forearm, one taped to calf. 8" skillet alum - $4.00 dinner plate, boil water, useful if someone offers you food. Fleece Throw - $5.00 some warmth at night. Handy Saw - $5.00 useful tool Just a few things I saw and priced, select your own from the local store, you can make a quick, cheap, and dirty BOB |

*CLOTHING/ARMOUR*
-Shirt -Sweater -Heavy Pants -Leather bracers/half chaps -Canvas jacket -Kevlar gloves with pvc knuckles -Leather combat boots with extra half size -Good vest with attachments -3 day assault pack - Blackhawk makes a few good ones TOTAL WEIGHT: 15lbs *TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT* -Multi tool -Fixed blade knife -Jet lighter -Fire Starter -10h Chem sticks -3 flares -Quickties (first aid, attaching items, fixing tools, keeping doors locked) -Hockey tape (best adherence with sweat/water, and temp conditions + first aid applications) -Fishing line -Sewing kit (repairs and first aid) -Para cord -First Aid kit -Pump filter -Iodine tablets -Fishing kit -Nylon webbing -20m of good rope -Caribiners -LED flashlight with rechargables -Compact solar generator TOTAL WEIGHT: 22lbs *WEAPONS* -Kimber Royal II, 45ACP - blued to avoid usual rust issues -Springfield SOCOM 7.62/.308 (10 round clip) - similar to M14 with shorter barrel and lightened poly parts -8 pistol magazines (FULL) -4 rifle magazines (FULL) -20" prybar in titanium - won't catch in bone and has multiple applications -GUN CLEANING KIT - SO IMPORTANT!!! TOTAL WEIGHT: 35lbs This pretty well takes care of the essentials for on the go. If you need to bail this weight is do-able for one person. And if you have to leave your pack to get to safety for a bit, at least you won't have to worry about them stealing your kit. NEVER LEAVE A WEAPON BEHIND. ALWAYS ON YOU AT ALL TIMES, INCLUDING KNIVES. There will also be others in your crew with specific designations who may carry special items: Axe, shield, etc. As for accomodation, i'd suggest a hammock tent - they'll keep you out of harm's way, and their light. I have a million other suggestions, but the word limit says no. I'M LOVING EVERYONE'S IDEAS - THANK YOU

Shouldn't the contents of a BOB match what is necessary to the groups survival? Now, I'm just assuming that everyone is going to be with a group, but it seems that the person who is carrying that medical supplies and field guides to edible plants doesn't need to carry the group's retrieval kit. Since most of us are also in an urban environment, it is possible to get the supplies needed on the run. Personally, I'm probably going to be one of the retrieval team, so here's my BOB. (Note: I am not an expert on guns, so please be kind if you criticize my choices.)
Retrieval Tools: 14" Wrecking Bar 6 lb Maul 4 lb Sledge Hammer MultiTool LED Flashlight (Red Cloth to protect Night Vision) 4 Replacement Batteries 30 ft Nylon Rope/ Tow Strap Machete (Also a Defensive Weapon) Personal First-Aid Kit 3 Flares (Can be used as fire-starters) Full Face Gas Mask 2 Books—The Zombie Survival Guide and Elk Skin Gloves Notepad (includes pen) (Waterproof!) Space Blanket Walkie-Talkie Defensive Weapons: 12-gauge Remington 1100 Shotgun w/ 15 extra rounds Jericho Semi-Auto Pistol w/ 2 Boxes of Rounds Combat Knife Trench Spike

I live in a rural area (farm land), with the closest house 2 miles away. I have completely different needs for our Bug Out Bags than say some one in a city, or who is way out in the wilderness. The nearest store to me is at least 6 miles away. I set-up my gear to reflect what I would need if I can't get into a store right after I had to evacuate, and in case I had to hold up in a barn or on the run for a few days. I am curios about some of your situations and why you packed what you did. Hopefully we can keep this constructive and learn and make all of our B.O.B.s better.

Yeah, all we think about are the contents, but what about the actual bag? I was putting together one holding the two bottled waters when I asked myself, "Where am I gonna put these things?"
So can anyone help me look for an ideal pack, bag, or plastic to put our survival stuff in? I mean, you can't just put it in a garbage bag and expect to be the most badass zack hunter out there. It's gotta be something with maximum capacity and ultralightweight. (is that even a word?)

I might just want to throw a Bradley Fighting Vehicle in the rear compartment of my ruck... hmmm no, the apache gunship is there. I know this is fairytale and all but let's suppose my Galil and ammo isn't in my BOB, because my AA12 is and ten drums of ammo, but wait! I have to make room for five more MREs! In the military in a WARZONE where you could be entrenched, on patrol or cut off at any given time but where HIGH MOBILITY is necisarry a small light weight bag called an assault pack has what is nessisary for the next 48 hrs. It usually weighs under 25lbs. The idea is that if you have stay longer than you have provisions for than you improvise in this case scrounge/raid whatever. Now they also wear another 45lbs of gear on their body but the majority of that is their IBA, next ammo than a hydration system of some kind. I see lighter weight as a plus because it allows for more mobility. You can scrounge pretty quick, soldier have been doing it as long as they have been a concept.
