Not necessarily. Remember that there will be two phases of Panic. The first phase will be right away, as soon as an announcement is made or as soon as zombies are seen. People will rush right out trying to find whatever they think they will need that they don't already have, then they will either hit the road or hole up at home with all the doors and windows boarded over.

The second phase will hit anywhere from a week to a month later. That will be when people start realizing that there were things that they needed but forgot to get, or when they start running out of the things that they already had or did get. This phase will perhaps be even more dangerous, because A) by that point people will be deep enough into the crisis to be ready to snap anyway and B) even more so than before, the things that they will be looking for will already be gone, so they will be desperate.

If you are planning, or are forced, to travel or go out looking for supplies of your own, the week or two window between these two phases would probably be the best time to do so. It would suck to safely wait out Phase One, only to inadvertently get caught up smack in the middle of Phase Two.

Now with all that said, you are quite correct that knowing these locations will still be valuable, even if only so that you know what places to avoid.
