Bugging InThis is a featured page

Zombie Diaries 1What is Bugging In? Simply, it is the part of survival concerned with preparing your common everyday locations for disaster. The idea is to gather everyone together, ride out the worst parts (typically most of the death and destruction happens in the first few days of the Panic) and then assess whether the situation is now under control, or if it is necessary to Bug Out.

Bugging In is the first step in preparations for disaster. It is also the easiest and cheapest. Most homes need only minor modifications, a little extra shopping and some common sense applied in order to have a decent Bug In Location.

45ACPennsylvania The First Few Days... 16 May 10 2012, 10:48 PM EDT by renet76

Hi guys. I'm new to this page and I'm totally diggin it. Here's my situation. I live in a typical suburb, close houses, small yards. My house is 2 stories and solid brick/block from basement to roof. My first dilema was barring the windows. I'm trying to think of something that can be reasonably quick to install, possibly from the inside. Recently, I installed some glass block windows in the basement window wells. Things are extremely solid, although a few hours/days of pounding can break just about anything. My plan for them was to bury them in dirt so they are invisible to the Z eyes. Thoughts?

I have a good sized brick patio in the back yard that I could use to brick the windows on the first floor, but I'd like some ideas for faster install if I need to move quickly. Plus, mortar can take forever and I'd need to keep a ton on hand. I have a finished basement with access to an abundance of 2x4 studs for supplies. Tons of nails and hammers. Still....slow. Putting iron bars is against the rules...wife :)

My plan: Bar up the first floor doors and windows somehow and wait the first few days/weeks. Keep myself, wife, baby safe and most importantly, quiet. Food/water/ammunition is not an issue, I'm well stocked. Once things appear to settle, I'll move out of the burb into a safer location. How can I survive the first few days?

I personally think that large stores and buildings should be avoided. Simply because Zed can't open a door and the odds are that large superstores and malls are going to be crawling with Zed if you can find a small food market with a pharmacy next door and try to hole up in there do it. simple fact is they are easier to clean out than a superstore and much easier to barricade and protect than a superstore.

Excellent places would be somewhere with lots of food and water easily accessible inside, weapons and ammo inside, and idea lookout points.A good place can be a Folgers,a Wal-Mart if the doors are barricaded,or similar place.
