AmeliModel: CETME Ameli
The Ameli's appearance is deceptive: while it looks essentially like an MG-42 with an M16 carrying handle welded on, the firing mechanism is quite apart from the MG-42's roller-locked short recoil method. The Ameli is a roller-delayed blowback machine gun chambered for the 5.56mm NATO cartridge that is used in a great number of rifles, especially the AR-15 variants seen around the United States and the rest of the world. The Ameli was first produced in Spain in 1982 and is currently in use with the Spanish and Mexican militaries, among others.

The Ameli is an open bolt, automatic only weapon designed to fire from a belt feed; it's optimized for the heavier SS109 rounds that are currently in use with NATO, giving it good accuracy and range at a slight cost of individual round power. Like the MG3 that it resembles, the Ameli can have its fire rate adjusted from 850-900 rpm to the maximum of 1200 rpm by swapping out the bolt for a lighter one. Along with a quick-detach bipod it can be mounted on a vehicle or a tripod and has a quick change barrel that can be replaced within 5 seconds by a trained operator.

Where to find

The Ameli is not as common as weapons like the FN Minimi or the MG3, but American users who choose to flee to Mexico or Europeans who flee to Spain may be finding this weapon in use by the militaries.

Complexity

The Ameli is reliable enough to be used in military environments, but its ruggedness is not especially great and the gun is not especially indestructible. The most interesting thing is its similarity to the MG3 and MG-42 machine guns, making it a quick process for someone experienced with these weapons to learn.
