CZ 452Model: CZ 452
The CZ 452 is an excellent example of the bolt-action .22 rifles commonly given to novice shooters, especially youths, as a way of training them in marksmanship and safe firearms handling. The CZ 452 is a very standard bolt-action rifle with a detachable magazine available in several calibers. They are often sold with single shot adapters that allow for the rifle to be converted to a single shot, excellent for safely training a new shooter. All variants include a hammer forged barrel and an adjustable trigger weight and pull, and many can be ordered in left handed variants.

The CZ 452 American has a straight combed Turkish walnut stock, a 22.5 inch barrel, and no open sights; it's intended only for use with a scope and includes a dovetail mount in the receiver; the Varmint is a heavy barreled American. The Scout is a compact rifle meant for training young shooters and comes with the single shot adapter. Silencers are also manufactured to fit the rifle.

Where to find

The CZ 452 can be found in many reputable shops and can be seen as a "standard" .22 rifle for novice or young shooters. At $300 some models may be somewhat pricey for training, though.

Complexity

The CZ 452 has a reputation as a very reliable bolt action weapon and is simple enough for even a child to operate. The big minus the rifle receives is the anemic stopping power of the various chamberings, which makes excellent shot placement a must. One common criticism is the poor trigger pull, which can throw off this necessary accuracy.
