Canadian Survivor's PlanThis is a featured page

My plan is quite complex, however, I believe it is feasible. During the first few weeks, I would fortify my house by boarding up windows and barricading doors. I already have all the materials needed in my garage(2x4s, plywood). I would gather collect water and gather supplies, including food and ammo for my Ruger 10/22, my primary weapon.
I would make posters and organize the local survivors, and we would take the local high school, clearing out any zombie teenagers hanging out after school. After the school is taken, 10 men would have the job of making the building temporarily safe, by using desktops to board up the first floor windows, and some of the frames to block up the doors. This would need to be completed in at least part of the school, by nightfall.

At the same time, several men(15- 20) would begin digging a trench around the perimeter of the grounds, 6-8 feet deep and wide. They would pile the dirt on the outer-facing side of the trench, to create a sort of earthen wall. A sort of drawbridge will allow/prohibit passage. While they work, an additional five persons would stand watch and defend these men from any wandering zombies. This operation could take weeks. Now, after the 10-man team in charge of the window barricades completes their task, they would begin to create a sort of power generation system, using automotive alternators, power inverters, deep cycle batteries, and water wheels, based on the nearby river. The 1st Assault/Recon Team would be created, and they would use a Ford Crown Victoria(Why? keep reading) to raid the armoury in the nearby city of Brantford. This armoury contains several thousand rounds of ammunition of various types, as well as weapons, including C7A1 assault rifles(Canadian M-16), C6 general purpose machine guns(FN MAG), M870 shotguns and C3A1 sniper rifles. All these would be brought back to base, and then, several Crown Victoria's would be modified in the school's auto shop. I chose the Crown Vic because they are common around town. The vehicles, no fewer than two, but more like five, would be modified to include a C6 MG in a flexible roof mount, as well as other mods. These vehicles, along with their Assault/Recon teams, would then proceed to raid all the local stores and warehouses for food, ammo, and other general supplies( I, for one, do NOT want to run out of TP). A major item I would stockpile would be Kool-Aid and other drink mixes, as boiled water, while safe to drink, tastes flat and unappetizing. One team's specific job would be to acquire a fuel tanker, and use it to transport and store fuel on base. At first, gas could be siphoned out of abandoned cars, but later, it will become necessary to store large quantities on site. On the second and third floors of the school, barracks would be setup, along with bunk-beds, to provide living space. The bathrooms would be a necessary option when bringing the water system back on line. Farming would begin. We will have to rely on canned food to make it through the first winter, but after that, we will live on grown food. A few simple crops, like corn and beans, would be planted. A few cows would be captured, and they would provide us with milk, and through that, cheese and butter, and finally, bread. Bakeries for bread would be setup.

In the longer term(5-10 years), the city would be divided into districts, and quarantined. A clean-out mission would then be undertaken, with Assault/Recon teams clearing each sector of any zombies. The walls used to quarantine the sectors would be made of anything available(abandoned cars, fallen trees, debris).Other local schools and arenas would be captured and fortified, for storage and living space. Outside the town, fields would be fortified, and used for raising animals and growing crops. Farms would be built. Inside town, houses and other buildings would be slowly disassembled for building materials, among other things(room for more fields, closer to base). The earthen wall would be replaced with one of mortar and bricks. We would, finally, begin to slowly reclaim the city of Brantford. After that, we will work towards making the whole area safe. Broadcasts would be made across CB, channel 1, telling the location of the base, and its approximate population.

Below are simple outlines of the units/vehicles/other concepts I have written about.

Crown Victoria: the Assault/Recon Vehicle
The Ford Crown Victoria, with its 4.6L, 240hp V-8 engine and four-speed automatic transmission, would make an excellent fast assault/recon vehicle. It's large trunk capacity and easy adaptability for towing make it ideal for the acquiring and transportation of supplies. Plus, it has a full frame, so modifications will not destroy the structural integrity, like they would on a uni-bodied vehicle. These vehicles would be armed with a C6 MG, with 600 rounds of ammo, and a homemade explosive mortar launcher, with 10 rounds. The rear bench seat would be removed, and two bucket seats would be added, to allow room for the gunner to stand. Other modifications would include armouring the windows with heavy steel mesh and bars, and sturdy door locks installed. A heavy bush bar would be added to the front for ramming, and a winch would be installed for moving rubble and other vehicles. Eventually, the cars, one at a time, would be completely stripped of all electronic components, and the engines would be swapped out for carbeurated ones. These engines would be tuned to run on alcohol, which could be distilled from grains like wheat and corn.

Assault/Recon Teams
Armed with C7A1 rifles, a C3A1 sniper rifle, and 1 M870 shotgun, the five man assault team would be trained to fight both zombies and human raiders. When larger forces are required, several teams can group together. Each member of the team has his own responsibilities in the operation of their vehicle and their missions.
Team Responsibilities/Armaments
Team Lead: C7A1, personal sidearm. The commander of the team.
Driver: MP5N, personal sidearm. The driver of the team's vehicle.
Gunner: C7A1w/ M203A1 Grenade launcher. Operator of the vehicle's C6 MG
Engineer/Mechanic: M870, combat radio
Sniper/Spotter: C3A1, personal sidearm. Provides long-range firing support, and assists driver with navigating.

UPDATE: After a bit of research, I have decided that for extended supply runs, larger vehicles, such as the Ford Explorer, Bronco, or F-series pickups would be sufficient.(I know, I know, Ford.... but hey, it's what I grew up with. Hard to shake that) For my example, I'll use the first generation Explorer. With a good power-to-weight ratio, this truck can be pretty quick off the line. This vehicle would be armed with the same MG and launcher setup as the Assault/Recon Crown Vic's but these vehicles would only be crewed by 2 people, a driver, and a navigator/gunner. These men would both be armed with shotguns. While the towing capacity isn't great, it's nothing to sneeze at either, allowing this truck to tow around 6000 pounds, which translates to a LOT of supplies. With a 155hp 4.0 L Cologne V6 engine and a four speed automatic transmission, this truck would be great for a Transport/Resupply vehicle.

C6 General Purpose Machine Gun(FN MAG, M240)
Spewing out an incredible 650-1000 rounds per minute, the C6 is the Canadian Army's GPMG. Using 7.62x51mm ammunition, this machine gun would be incredibly useful for mounting on the Assault/Recon vehicles. Fed by a disintegrating belt, the weapon operates on the tried-and-true BAR action. The stock and bi-pod can be easily removed, and, the integrated mounting point(shown in picture) would allow the weapon to be mounted and used as a turret.FN MAG

UPDATE!
After doing some thinking and a little late night research, I realized that we would quickly run out of belted ammo for the C6 MG. After some frantic searching, I found a miracle: a box fed LMG, and it's made right in my freakin" backyard! The M16 LMG, manufactured by Colt Canada in Kitchener, Ontario(a mere twenty minute drive from the school), it has al the reliability of the classic M16, but with a heavy barrell designed for extended firing. Accepts STANAG and Beta-C magazines.M16 LMG
Homemade Mortar Launcher
Similar in use to the Bangalore torpedo, although launching an explosive charge as opposed to directing a blast through a pipe. This weapon would be used to remove any walls, small structures, and general debris on the fly and without exposing the vehicle crew, something a winch cannot do. These weapons would be installed on the Assault/Recon vehicles and the Transport/Resupply vehicles. Powered by the vehicles a/c compressor and an air-tank, this weapon would have infinite firing capability, even after the explosive rounds are spent. The explosive rounds, 5-10 pounds each, would be primarily high explosive, although they could be quickly modified to carry shrapnel for engaging clusters of zombies. Although a direct hit to the brain is unlikely, the blast would make most of the zombies in the group immobile, fodder for the vehicle's tires or the butt of a rifle or heel of a boot.

The School, and fortifications to be installed
aerial view of PDHSMap of PDHS
These pictures show Paris District High School, the base of operations outlined in my plan. The aerial picture shows the school and grounds, while the street map shows where the fortifications would be placed and where trenches cannot be dug, shown by arrows and red lines. The gray line shows the perimeter fortifications. Obviously, the large red border to the north would set off some alarm bells in people's minds, but, along that section, there is an 8-foot drop from the parking lot to the yards to the west.

182crazyking Regarding CanadianSurvivor's Armory... 16 Mar 21 2010, 12:16 AM EDT by CanadianSurvivor

I think that's a great plan, however, I see one big 'what-if' scenario. What if you are unable to get in the armory? If it contains "several thousand rounds of ammunition of various types, as well as weapons," why would it not be locked tight? What if some family is on the inside, blocking you out? What if - God forbid - some raiders who were closer got there first, picked the place clean, and are now running around the streets of your hometown with machine guns, while you only have a 10/.22?

Those ARE worst-case scenarios, but do you have a backup place for weapons if TSHTF?
