Cannibalizing Materials
Check out web sites like "Instructables" for all kinds of wacky ways to make use of discarded objects or for new uses of old items.
If the average person was to learn the basics like, electrical, plumbing, welding, blacksmithing/metal working, carpentry, mechanical repair, etc., in short become a jack of all trades, their chances for survival go way up.
Toss in a few detailed books about 19th century tech and you have the makings for restarting civilization.
The reason I mention 19th century tech, is because many people back then, had to make their own materials from raw stocks, to produce the products they desired. The 20th century was the beginning of the specialists, who relied on others for their materials to produce goods. Forget about micro-chips or any other high tech junk, leave that for the future generations to crank out.

My survival Plan. Keep in mind that im only 14 years old
2. I'd run to my local lumber store ( 1 block away from my house ) and get all the wood i think is necessary.
Better to cannibalize what you already have inside the house; Tear DOWN that pretty, pretty wall (or tool board) to close off the window. 3. Come home, and destroy my staircase, the only way up or down is with a ladder. NEVER destroy the stairs. If you destroy the stairs, you cede the first floor to the skin jobs. THEN they get in and bumble around until they set fire to something. Now you’re in a funerary pyre of your own making. HOLD WHAT YOU HAVE. The moment you loose it, you can’t get it back again and now you’re fucked. Other than that it looks good.

barricade
anything can work
Zombies are stupid and slow not like the running zombies in movies
A barricade doesn't need to be bullet proof, but if your afraid of other humans then keep reenforcing as you find new material
use a Car if possible to block doors or windows
use the furnature in your home
old tires if you got them
rebar sindar blocks and concrete to make a stone wall
wood, chain, wire
start by locking the doors, then put something infront of them shut all windows and nail them shut or board them up if possible I recomend watching dawn of the dead and night of the living dead the origanls not the remakes

Weapons at your house.
No guns, though I'd really really like to have some. Lots of blunts, sharps, and flammables; mostly every day stuff.
-Tons of assorted axes, pick axes, shovles, pitch forks. Tons= not even half the amount would fit in my car. -Kitchen knives, good sharp, well maintained -1 katana (gift), would trust a butter knife over it (really cheap gift). -Lots of flammables, (turpentine, propane, gasoline, aerosols fertilizer, etc...) -Fire starters (road flares, matches, starter logs, lighters) -Muriatic Acid, several gallons -Building material and supplies: pipes, lumber, power tools, etc...(slow yet ongoing home improvements)
And I am totally with Green going to Dave's. I gots liquor :)
