Sometimes, the world really can't get any crazier. It's not like some movie, where the world fell apart before it got to us, and celebrities would discuss the repercussions, hospitals would stream autopsies, while the government was assailed with interviews. It's like we didn't want to admit anything was happening until it finally hit big in Iceland, the death toll going into the hundreds of thousands before the media blackout.

For a while after, it was normal, except you had to wait a half hour in line at Vons for food, and Dick's Sporting goods was swept clean of just about everything. People thought it a good time to take vacation. I don't blame them.

I can't tell you the story of what happened though, when it's still being written. It's August, a month since that tense day and we're starting to see the chatter on the news about the "plague of 2011." The trees are shedding their leaves for a hard season, and we're sitting here waiting for the dam to burst.

Yeah. We're really in for something.

How it works
This is a community story, a little different than what you might have done in the past. Instead of a game where we keep track of some statistics, this is a story we all contribute to. The learning curve is steep, and there is a lot of skill involved, but the sense of accomplishment is impressive. It gets addicting, pretty fast, and there's an entire culture and mythology built by a good story.

There will be a number of independent arcs, generally around five, that are written by multiple writers. ietherpad and sync.in are ideal programs to get multiple authors working on a project at the same time. When these are written, a private message should be sent to John_234. who will point out any problems, then paste it onto the main story pages.

There is a minimum standard of quality. Text has to be grammatically correct, well punctuated and spaced, as well as descriptive and not overtly complicated. Style, technique and overall feel is not grounds for a rejection. Every piece is guaranteed a spot in the fiction. If a writer feels that something is severely lacking on quality, they must message John_234, and may absolutely not raise a public complaint over it.

There are no official rules, as it's all common sense. Don't block each other, be reasonable, and try to have fun. If anything is in doubt, ask John_234.

Due to size constraints, there are six story arcs and twenty writers allowed for the community story. Each arc will have certain writers that work on stories within it. Writers and arcs are not set, but changes must be noted on this page. Generally, a writer will have one or two primary characters, at most.
