There are quite a few references to building colonies. I am curious to see what people think would go into making a good settlement. So here’s the challenge.
The zombie hoards have receded now it’s time to rebuild. What would make a good settlement? What’s the Location? How will you handle defence? Secure food and water? What will you build with what materials and how will you source them? How will you acquire people? Anything really in the grand art of colony creation - have fun!

I was reading the Build the BOB from the ground up article and I have reservations about the GPS information(nothing against the person who wrote it just my $ .02). I understand the advantages of a hand held GPS unit they are great, but remember they are only a machine they have limitations. For example I live next to a large National Forest and about two or three times a year I find people in the woods who have no right to be in the woods without a helmet. Recently I have been finding jackholes who are Geocaching(which in theory is a great thing to get people off their bums and doing things) but go into the woods with no supplies or skills other than an AA powered device. Two people have run out of battries, one busted, and one left it sitting on a rock and wandered away. Learning how to read a map is a skill you should have before you go into the woods, having and useing basic equipment also. Sorry for the rant but I dont want to have to help the local Rangers pull some dumb fool out of my back yard because he watched Les Stroud or some other show.
Am I wrong in my assesment of the GPS unit? Am I basing my opinion on a limited number of mouth breathers? What do you all think?

Major ZSDW Community Project Starting November
Given the rather dramatic rise, internal collapse and eventual scrapping of our once massive list of survival plans I have seen that the ZSDW as a community can carry out massive amounts of work. (There were over 700 survival plans with written content) In response to this I believed the ZSDW could unite and begin co-operating on a massive project. Something which no other zombie site has attempted before, something which will set us head and shoulders above the rest. The Global Survival Guide. With users coming from the United Kingdom to the United States, from Tai'pei to Toronto, from Mexico to Saudi Arabia the ZSDW has a formidible international userbase. We are a multicultural site lacking multicultural content. I am proposing that we start a major project. We, as many of the 13'000 of us as I can reach, will co-operate on a survival plan for the world. If you are in Tunisia where is the best nation to escape to? If you are Poland will the military be well equipped to deal with an outbreak? If you are in Canada what language should you speak to avoid angering the locals?

Everything in this thread is subject to change.
We've been here for 4 1/2 years now. We've got the content. We've got the community. Let's make this Christmas a ZSDW one! This Secret Santa is only open to members who have been on the ZSDW for one and a half years to protect users. The idea is that anyone interested will sign up and be given a person to buy a present for. There will be a set value (perhaps $20-$30). Feel free to exceed this value if you are feeling particularly generous. I will message people privately telling them who they are buying presents for. Everyone who signs up WILL GET a present and WILL HAVE TO SEND one. Whilst you will know who you are buying for, you will not know who is buying for you. If you have any qualms or concerns about people knowing your address you have two options: 1.) Message me privately if there is a certain user/users that you do not want to know where you live. I will pair you off with a user who you don't mind knowing your address. 2.) Get an PO box which you can have delivered to a location near you without having to give away a home address. Any other ideas to increase safety please let me know. Alright, on with the show! Throw your name in this thread if you are interested!

Been checking out all the dummy grenades or real ones rendered inert and was thinking about buying a couple for no real reason.
But then I thought about a possible stand off senerio in which you pull out one of these. You could be outnumbered 10 to 1 and still you have a chance with a $10 dummy grenade. It would certainly be one of the biggest bluffs of all time but and if they call it your dead but it gives you a chance right? It would give you two options. #1 Being allowed to back out of the building or room unharmed. #2 If you drop it and run everyones likely to duck for the nearest cover.

The wife and I were driving to visit our son the other day, hit a patch of ice and landed her car in a field. It being a freakin front wheel drive Honda(not my Jeep) it was going nowhere. Fortunatly I had my handy dandy survival pack.
I used the E tool to dig out the tail pipe and make sure we could start it every hour to get heat. I left her some extra cloths and food to keep warm. packed up what I needed and walked to the nearest place to use a phone(no cell reception of course). I had extra gloves, scarves, and a cover. Always keep a BOB on you even if it is not the end of the world, it can get your but out of a jam.

So, I'm thinking of starting a disscussion on (yes, I know it might sound a bit mall ninja, but wait to see what I have to say before laughing) zombie fighting tactics. For groups, solo, weapons usage, traps, posbbily even good defensive formations for a horde charging at you.
A couple threads and then a page for "living ragers," "undead shamblers," and 'undead runners' should work, I think. If any of you would like to help me with the pages it would be much appreciated, as I will be putting a good deal of my limited time on here working on the Mexico Survival Guide. Ps. Anyone interested in helping with the Mexico Survival Guide, let me know about that, too.

As I am sure many of you are aware there is a series on YouTube called Epic Rap Battles of History.
Here are a couple of examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcTLJ692F70&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn7-fVtT16k The rap uses its lyrics to represent fights between personal conflicts, opinions and stances on issues. Now, I thought we could bring it onto here! A sort of, more relaxed thread which you can kick back and enjoy! I thought we could arrane rap battles for a humourous way to resolve some arguments on here between people. Perhaps: AK47 vs M16 Melee vs Long range weaponry Those are only off the top of my head. But yes, feel free to challenge someone, start up your own thread and make sure "RAP BATTLE" is the first part of the title. We can use this thread to discuss the best ways to arrange rap battles and sort out rules for who wins. So, go ahead, throw your ideas in here for the best way to get our rap battle project up and running!

Hello, first post, i apologise for errors etc. This post is basically a call out to anyone in South England area who is open to discussing plans, survival tactics and other points open to discussion. I have searched the site and haven't really found anything of worth on this subject so thought it might be a good idea.
Thanks.

So, picture this scenario in any choice country. Some kind of zombies (refrain from extensive assumptions about their nature) are running amuck, and the military has launched a full-scale extermination attempt, into which they are putting all their ground power and a number of air raids. How does that one go?
What country do we all figure would come out best?

Alright so put some thought into this and well lets take a sledge hammer for starters it has huge stopping power and could definitely smash a zombies skull but to no avail it is a slow weapon, your arms get tired quick and in the case of a miss when you swing your screwed so have any unconventional weapons that could make a good weapon if they wern't so dang heavy, bulky and maybe just plain useless unless using them for a survival task other than taking out zombies?

Well, guys, what have you got? Just list a quote, one single quote, that you would live by during a zombie apocalypse. I'll start it off.
"The more you bleed in training, the less you bleed in war." A favorite of mine. Applicable in any kind of scenario, but it just seems to fit. I interpret it as, bust your *ss now, and you won't have to later. Get ready. Get fit, strong, smart, and prepared. And then that can be your mantra if all hell breaks loose; *Swing-splurch* "The more you bleed -" *Sclurch* "- in training," *Duck-kick jump* "The less you bleed in WAR!" *Swing-crack-thump*

Lets take a step back for a second... its early winter, events have led you up neer the Canadian border. As the temperature drops you find yourself struggling. Then something happens, the zombies start freezing! Salvation? Maby... If your able to make it through the winter dont let your guard down. Come spring when everything thaws out so will the undead.
If you find yourself in the colder climates set up decently, make it a point to hunt down some frozen corpsicles. With no danger of them attacking it will make dispatching them a breeze. Still take care when spring comes. The greatest danger lies in those unprepared. To themselves and to others as they become infected.
