...That's how I'd sound if I were lobotomized and was typing with my foot (I almost had to). My plan is much more coherent, but by no means a blockbuster! Please provide any feedback or constructive criticism by posting on this thread. "Thanx" for reading!

Step 1. Panic Attack
When the panic hits, I will start gathering weapons and supplies from my gun closet and refrigerator. We have MRE and freeze-dried meals at the ready (In case of emergency), so I'll gather those. I'd call a few of my friends (the ones who aren't idiotic and have stayed in their houses) and tell them to come to my house. If the computers, TV, etc. were still running I would unplug them (so I could cannibalize their parts later). I wouldn't unplug the phones until the city was pretty darn overrun.

I would then get the spare lumber we have in the backyard and barricade the doors and windows. And yes, by "spare lumber" I mean assorted peices of wood in various stages of decay. Then again, when I first notice the zombies (I'm keeping a finger on the pulse of any zombie-ish news) I would head off to Lowe's before the panic and buy some barricading materials - mostly wood and metal. We would nail and/or screw them to the door and windows.

Doors -
  • Front - This is just a sturdy 1.5 in. thick, 77 in. tall, 40 in. wide wood door. It has a sort of NBC-ish cresent window pattern on the top, but even if a zed could reach it, they would have to be the size of a hand grenade on Weight Watchers to get in. Then again, there is a person-sized window to the left which will have to be dealt with. A wood pallet would do nicely.
  • Gate - An iron gate with a padlock is the defense for the side yard. It's too high to jump unless the zombie in question was flying.
  • Back - The back door to my house is thick reinforced sliding glass. However, I'm not too worried about anybody getting in through that.
  • Garage - My garage door is big and made of somewhat thick metal. A human could maybe dent it, and a ramming speed car could allow a person to roll under. Let's hope zombies do not know how to operate cars.
  • Garage > House - The door from my garage to the house is just like my front door, only a bit smaller.
  • Garage > Side - There are two doors - one white metal one and one sorta white wooden one. It would be hard to get in or out through these doors, as you sometimes have to shoulder charge the suckers to open 'em.

My house consists of me, my mom, and my dad. We would all be staying. Most of my relatives and friends are pretty distant (I don't even know where some of my friends live), but I could find them and contact them (maybe).

My house has 2 bedrooms (1 bed each, but one is a double bed). I also have three couches. Thus, six people could stay in the house at one time and have a cushioned sleeping area. I hope we won't have more than that, because they would each have to have a firearm (see next step) and have to eat our food.

My house also has 2 bathrooms. I would fill and cover everything before the water is shut off (like in the ZSG). Plus the huge amounts of bottled water we have and the DIET sodas (less sodium = they actually quench your thirst) and a lot of containers. More could be Jerry-rigged. There might even be water in my trailer's tank, but that's only if we recently went on a trip.

We don't lack in weapons. I have...

1 .22 pump rifle - These are sort of rare, and though mine isn't reliable (it sometimes needs to be hit a bit with a rock or something to get the "mag" back into the body, although I will be fixing that with a gunsmith soon), it would be good for base sniping until I could find a more powerful scoped rifle. It has a 14 rd." magazine" (each round is dropped into a long metal tube on the underside of the weapon). Every shot has to be ejected by a small (smaller than a shotgun pump; maybe 1/2 the size) pump on the barrel. Until I can find a scoped rifle, this could serve as my Designated Base Sniper's weapon.

1 .22 single-shot rifle - One of the most accurate and reliable types of rifle ever made, but it only holds one .22 LR round between reload. Again, this would be a good base sniper gun, but it'd too slow to be up against 2+ zombies if you don't have an advantage.

1 20 gauge pump-action shotgun - A good all around gun. The recoil and weight are both less than a 12 gauge, but the damage is the same for what I'm using it fore (head nuker). This thing could obliterate a zombie's head in a single shot from 8 ft. with birdshot, ~12 with buckshot, and 15 or 20 with slugs.

1 30-30 lever action rifle - This is an extremely accurate and reliable gun. I have no trouble hitting targets from long ranges with this. Add a zombie head's size and I could snipe one from a medium distance.

1 .38 revolver detective special - For a "last stand" gun (i.e. a zed grabs you and you either have to shoot it in the head quickly or die), this escapes comparison. For a medium-range threat disposal gun... not that much. It has a very short barrel, high recoil, and low accuracy (to hit a stump anywhere at 10 ft. is pretty good shootin' tex)

1 .38 revolver - Sadly, this police weapon can't be cocked. That's the only downside, though. It's like the above, except it has less recoil and somewhat better accuracy.

1 .38 revolver - This is the same as the above, except that it can be cocked.

2 200th police anniversary .357 magnums - I won't get into details, but I've never shot these. They weren't designed to be shot. Plus I don't have any ammo. These will be put in a display case in the house as a reminder to keep fighting.

The below are for if my grandpa comes a-callin' with his guns.

1 .22 revolver - This is merely OK as a last stand gun, but awful in other ways. It's a "cowboy gun," meaning that it reloads and empties its shells one at a time. It's OK while target shootin', awful at zombie killin'.

1 semiautomatic .22 - I'm a crack shot with this thing. A 7 round magazine plus a perfect crossed line scope equals an ideal zombie eliminator for long or medium ranges.

1 Mauser kar98 Karabiner - This gun was actually a German soldier's gun during WWII. 100% authentic. Once my grandpa was target shooting with it. He missed and his bullet punched straight through a cinder block. Now, look me in the eye and tell me that it won't destroy a zombie with a straight face. The only problem is the rare ammo and the recoil and noise. Even with hearing protection it's really loud, and it visibly kicks my grandpa's butt into next week. It's basically the same as a shotgun slug, so I'll let him keep it.

1 .38 revolver - Yes, another one. This can be cocked. There's even a funny story. My grandpa got this from his dad in the mail. He opened it and found that it was fully loaded. He called his dad and told him, "Bill, you sent me a loaded gun in the mail!" He said, "I did?" Grandpa responded, "Well, someone was loaded."

Once the Panic is over and my base is ready, I would commence Step 2.

Step 2. Meet BOB

I would first need to take 2-3 people in a vehicle to search for weapons. I wouldn't scavenge too deep yet; just a few quick once-overs of places where I know I could get weapons. I wish I knew if my neighbors have guns in their houses, but I'd just have to use trial-and-error.

Then I would arm each party member with one weapon (or more) each, depending on previous experience and (to a lesser extent) their role in the base.

I would then loot fertilizer, weedkiller, seeds, and other farming materials from nearby stores or private homes. I already have some of these things in my house.

I would assemble farming and scrounging teams (see Step 3) and create BOBs for each party member. I don't have the BOBs assembled completely, but here's the "template"

1(+?) firearm - again, based on experience.

First aid supplies - Most of my immediate family are medical to some degree (Mom = ER nurse; Dad = paramedic), so there will be no shortage of first aid kits and supplies at my house. It even contains things valuable post-Z - for example, antibiotics.

MRE meal(s) - How many will depend on the current supplies. One or two would even be good; if we aren't working off the calories, one could sustain us for the entire day.

Water - A few bottles of mineral water and maybe soda each and we will be set until we find a clean source of water.

Ammo - Duh.

Trade Items - If we run into any other survivors, we could trade them for some beer or other valuable item that we have at the house.

Here's my BOB for future reference.

Weapons:
  • 20 gauge shotgun - As said before, this gun is perfect. Slugs can obliterate cinder blocks, buckshot can still rip through metal, and buckshot can penetrate wood to around 3 inches. Against zombies, it's a head-chopper.
  • OR (This is my second choice for a primary)
  • .22 pump rifle - I'm a great shot with this baby. The only thing I'm better with is my grandpa's semi auto .22. Too bad it doesn't have much stopping power. And as said before, sometimes it needs a good hard knock on the chamber to get it to shoot. However, I'm counting on my buddies to cover me.
  • .38 Revolver - As my secondary gun, I'm pretty good with this. It's the one that can be cocked. There's not much else to say; I could headshot a zombie from point-blank range or ~15 feet off.
  • Lawnmower Knife - Tanto point, very sharp, and with a foot-long blade, this thing is great! Made from a butchered lawnmower blade, I ground this down to a sharp blade. The handle will be cloth wrapped. It will be spray-painted black. There's a hole in the middle of the blade to allow it to fit on a lawnmower, but with a carabiner I could easily carry it on a belt loop. An ideal third weapon.
  • Eagle Knoif - I insist that this must be called a knoif (because if ya can't have a knife, ya gotta have a knoif!).The blade is around 2.5 ~ 3 inches long, and it's made of stainless steel. I hope I don't have to use it, as the only way I could kill a zed with it would be to stab it through the zombie's eye into its brain (like in the ZSG). I guess it could do that if I REALLY needed it to. I could sharpen it to a survival knife-ish thing as well, though.
    The Eagle Knoif

First Aid - See below.
  • Antibiotic ointment - Antibiotics are like Z-Day gold. A test showed that Neosporin is so powerful that no germs can grow around it in a petri dish. A tube or two would be of untold value to any injuries.
  • Adhesive Bandages - AKA Band-Aids. I have a few different types, from the flimsy cheapo ones with Disney movie characters to the expensive huge pads that come with their own antibiotic scrub. These don't weigh much and could be traded for a song, so I might consider distributing all of the packages to my members' BOBs.
  • Painkillers - In case any member of my party gets sore feet, a headache, or is otherwise whining, I'd have some painkillers. I have Ibuprofen pills (which are used in Aspirin) and liquid Tylenol (which has a different active ingredient in case I develop a tolerance). As long as we don't pop these like candy, we shouldn't overdose. Some Vicodin would also come in handy for severe wounds. Besides, we could trade these for good amounts, especially if we find an addict.

Mountian House meal - One Mountain House meal (add water) for food. IIRC the dish I currently have is a meal for 4. If my family decides to break the piggy bank for a few of these, then I'll make sure they get the ones that can feed a lot of people.

MRE - I could share this with another person if I had to, seeing as I am smaller than most, so it's essentially another dual dinner. Add the meal above and I could feed the entire group (6) in one sitting!

6 Water bottles - I could Duct-tape these together in a pyramid shape to easily store them in my bag. If I drink one bottle per day (and depending on the weather, I'll need from 0.5 to 1 bottle), then it could last me at least 6 days. If that's not enough to find some more water, than I'm screwed anyway.

Ammo -
  • .22 - If I decide to use the pump .22, then I'm in for an easier trip. I keep a sort of cylindrical tube for .22 bullets. Both sides have plastic caps that come off, but one side has a slit in the cap. Thus, I can shake a few .22s into my hand and reload quickly. It will hold around 20-30 rounds. I could also keep a few boxes of 50 rounds in the bag.
  • 20 gauge - Luckily, 20 GA. shells aren't as big as 12 GA., but they're still pretty darn huge. However, I have a secret weapon. I have a pouch that clips on my belt designed for double barreled/over & under shotguns, although it works for my pump in a pinch. There are two slots for two shells on the outside of the pouch, and room for a few full "magazines" at least in the middle. It's a great pouch!
Trade Items -
  • Beer - If the power is shut off, I won't bother putting these in the cooler, but I'm sure people won't mind it room-temp. Because beer contains ingredients that need water to be absorbed, my base will only drink these as a last resort. A lot of survivors admitted that they would give to guzzle the last Blue Moon on Earth.
  • Lighters - I'll keep one Zippo-ish disposable for lighting fires, but I could trade the few others I have.
  • Poker Cards - I could play some poker with my party if they get bored, or I could trade these.
  • PC Gamer Magazines - For light reading when there's down time or for trading to others, these tounge-in-cheek gaming magazines would be a very nice additon to my bag. They're light, too!
  • Bathroom Reader(s) - A bit bigger than your average book, this thing is chock-full of funny stories, odd news, quizzes, etc. designed to be read on the can. It could be traded for a good amount as well.
  • I will add to this list; drop me a suggestion via PM!
Bags - My current BOBs are... Gas Mask Bag for my French gas mask
  • Gas Mask Bag (right) - Most of the time I will have my gas mask on, so there's no need for the bag (I have used the filter and thrown away the lenses) except for a secondary BOB. In it I could fit 4 bottles of beer, three lighters, four decks of poker cards, a box of painkillers, a bottle of liquid painkiller, two boxes of Band-Aids, a little bottle of butane lighter fluid, and the antibiotic ointment. It's easy to swing around my neck and arm, and It's comfortable. It could fit in my primary BOB if I got tired of carrying it.
  • School Backpack (below) - My pack is around 8x6x19 inches (around 850 ~ 900 cubic inches) large. It's nice and comfortable, and has a few pockets. The largest one also contains a laptop pouch. The second-largest can fit lots of things nicely. The third-largest could fit a copy of The Deathly Hallows snugly. The second-smallest can fit perhaps 5 ~ 7 packs of playing cards. The smallest could fit an iPhone and headphones. Still, that's a lot of capacity.

    Crazyking's primary BOB

Worn Equipment -
  • T-Shirt - I'll have a couple of these in my BOB. For casual wear, I'll have two Apt 9 short-sleeve shirts. Aside from looking stylish as hell, they fit me somewhat loosely. Luckily the very soft material goes down instead of out and around, so I'll only be grabbed if the zombie is too close to survive anyway (biting range). The shirts I'll have for scavenging would be short-sleeved Quicksilver shirts. They are a bit less comfortable, but tighter.
  • Jeans - Lee jeans are perfect fits for me. The other two I have (Arizona and Levi's) work too, but I'd need a belt. Considering I don't have one at the moment, I could just substitute rope in a pinch. None of my jeans trip me up when I have to run, but they aren't uncomfortable high-waters.
  • Shoes & Socks - The only pair of shoes I'd take will be the one I'm wearing when I bug out. They are comfortable Adidas, already broken in. They aren't so loose that they slip off when I kick a soccer ball, but I can slip them on and off in around 10 to 15 seconds. I will have a few pairs of socks so that I don't get blisters, too. Crazy's Clothes (I know, Iook like I'm being beamed up, lol!)
  • Armor - After a bit of deciding, I have come to the conclusion of duct tape. For my hands, I'd use a rubber glove covered in duct tape. For my arms, I would create duct tape 'bracers.' There would be no adhesive, just two pieces of tape stuck together and wrapped into the shape of my arm. This would be able to slip of and on easily, along with the ability to remain flexible and breathe. However, it would still stop human teeth, and look stylish too (I might use a tie-dye color of tape)!
  • Gas Mask - I've used the filter (as said before), so I will be wearing this badass-looking mask just for the intimidation factor to other survivors. It doesn't impair my vision at all, and it is a very comfortable fit. My zombie killing pose. Shown here: Gas mask, shirt, pants, lawnmower blade
  • Sunstroke/Wind Hat - From M&I Surplus, this arctic camo hat has flaps for your neck to protect against either sunstroke, rain, or biting wind. It fits me perfectly, plus I'm going to put a Zombie Hunter patch right on the front.
  • Firefighter Quality Gas Masks - **Update!** My dad works at a FEMA warehouse, and FEMA decided that they were going to drop a million or two bucks and update their gas masks. My dad picked up a pair of these gas masks for Z-Day survival. They are much better than my French surplus one - better looking, and they have a battery-operated voice amplifier built in!
Keep an eye on this; I might add some more stuff!

At the same time as the above steps, commence Step 3.

Step 3. Scavving!

I would put 2-4 (depending on my party) people on the farming team (Ideally the people with the least firearms experience and most growing experience) and 3-5 people on the scavenging team. The ratio will be 1:1.5 (farming:scavenging).

The farming team will use seeds looted from nearby homes or stores to plant a few crops. At first it will just be legumes (beans), but once the soil is nice and nitrogen-enriched, we will move on to crops that can actually sustain the group. The farming team will also gather meats (if we can find something) and water. **Update!** Most of our neighbors have dogs (our next-doors breed them!), and people on Korea eat dogs, so do you see where I'm going with this? Meaty dietary suppliments.

The scavenging team would alternate their trips. One day we do a few houses, one day we do a store, and one day a week we rest. Here's the scavenging day planner.

Scavving PlanPlease note that I don't know if anyone in my party is religious, but I'll have the Sabbath off anyway. It just seems to be the most universal answer.

Look at the picture below. Each red dot is a house within .35 miles of my house (yellow lines mean nothing).

That's a lot of loot. Even if only one in two houses has something valuable, that's still an immense amount of houses. And they are all within .35 miles of my house. The team could walk or bike that in a few minutes!

Crazy's scav mapYes, I know that houses won't hold much of value post Z, but it is worth a shot. During the Panic, houses will be gotten out of pretty quickly so that the owners can Panic buy. Most of the owners will get killed during the Panic, take some sentimental items with them to get out, or be zombified before they can remove all of the valuable items. There will still be bargaining chips like beer, soda, etc. there too.

My current scavenging plan: each day I would take the group to either 1-3 houses OR one store. On Sunday I will take the day off. We could just kick back and relax! But then it's back to full-on scavving.

However, stores are a bigger problem. While there are lots of stores in the Upland area, most are within 2 ~ 3 miles from my house. If we wanted to scavenge from stores and actually get compensation, we'd have to "Mad Max" it in our vehicle. Besides, once we get there, it would be Zombieland.

Speaking of vehicles, I'll list them below...

Vehicles
  • Honda Element - This four-seater gets decent mileage on the streets, and is matched by a nice storage capacity. I know how to drive it and can at slow speeds (which is pretty good for someone below 15), but I won't be driving (hopefully). Still, I know the basics. On. Reverse. Parallel park. Off. Repeat.
  • Honda CRV - With OK-ish MPG and equally modest storage, this would be a good car for a secondary vehicle (read - the Element runs out of fumes).
  • Ford Truck - I can drive this, but I hope I don't have to. It has good storage, but has awful noise and MPG. I guess for a BOV that can take all of our stuff, this would work. Otherwise, I'll leave it to gather dust.
  • Yamaha ATVs - My current BOV, these things are great trail blazers, and are nice in the street. If I have my BOB on, that just prevents me from doing insane donuts. The other one is my mom's, and it has an awful clutch.
  • Yamaha ATV *Update* - My dad just bought a new ATV for me and will be buying one for my mom. I don't know about my mom's yet, but my new ATV is much bigger and
  • Weekend Warrior 5th Wheel - I'd use this as more of a tactical vantage point in case we're attacked. Nothing can pull it except the truck, and it goes horribly slow when it is being pulled. I can't even drive it in anything except a straight line. However, it has 3 extra beds, so we could potentially fit 4 extra people. Nothing screams OCD like a party of 10!

The farming team would have to gather water and food.

Food - Before becoming self-sufficient, we could survive of stored food looted from surrounding houses. After that runs out, we would have harvested many crops. Hunting is out of the question - where we live, they cut the trees down and name the streets after them. However, if we could trade a loner for (i.e.) Mr. & Mrs. goat/rabbit/etc, we could have meat sometimes.
Crazyking's Survival Plan - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki
Water - Sadly, I have no idea where a clean water well is near my house, and I have no idea how to dig one. If anyone can help, look near Lat 34° 7'39.83"N long 117°40'47.40"W in Google Earth. That's a neighborhood near my actual house.

If the outbreak lasted more than a year, then I'd commence Step 4.

Step 4: We Are Legend

God forbid the outbreak lasted more than a year. But if it happened, then our base would be totally self-sufficient. For food, we would have plentiful crop harvests from our garden. If we had Mr. & Mrs. farm animal, we could also have meat.

Eventually (over years and years) weapons will devolve to melee, with the occasional firearm and ammo.

Before that, a sweep would be commenced of the neighborhood, the area, the town, etc. for zombies. We will kill them all (this is where the part On the Attack from the ZSG comes into play). Objects like houses (wood), windows (glass), and fences (metal) would be refined into valuable materials. The entire perimeter will be a kill zone, and marked as such. Anybody, anything, etc. inside the kill zone is at the mercy of our snipers

Finally, the entire town will be repopulated and lived in. Our lives will go back to normal over the course of decades. Sort of.

The End of Crazyking's Zombie Survival Plan

Appendix A - The Raiders are Coming!

It has been debated here in the ZSDW about what the hell exactly we would do if there was a raider party trying to steal our stuff. I've debated in my head and come up with a few possible scenarios.

Robbin' BOB - If ever we had to bug out, a few raiders would be genuinely interested in all the stuff we have. If the raiders were smaller than our group, we would obviously have the upper hand. We would aim at them and tell them to drop their guns. If they don't and proceed to try to rob us or shoot us, we would terminate them all. If their group was larger, I would assume that we saw them before they saw us. We would hide everything nearby. When they came around, we could say that we were just robbed by a group of people that went "that way" (behind us). They would probably not want to waste ammo on people with nothing to take, so they would head towards the 'other group.' We would quietly grab our stuff and slip away or, if the group isn't sufficiently large, shoot them from behind.

Appendix B - Acceptance

Well, if anyone is in the northwest Upland area (near Cable Airport) and see a house on a secluded neighborhood with ZSDW on the garage door, feel free to stop in. If you identify yourself as ZSDW, I'll let you stop by and have some hot chocolate. However, for survivors that would like to join our base, there are conditions.

Mainly, you need to have a gun and you need to be able to contribute something. There are individual "common sense" tidbits as well, but they're mostly obvious.

Appendix C - Meal Time!

You're just waiting for my recipies, huh? Well, our base would mostly be vegans except for the unusual meaty item. But for my scavenging team, they might be out for supper looting stores. They couldn't carry too much food on them, so what could they eat for an entire meal?

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with the SPNM, or Scavengers' Portable Nutritious Meal, prounonced like "SPIN-em". It would consist of five different vegetables chopped up in our blender. Thus, it would be a hearty and nutritious paste of sorts. It sounds disgusting, but add a bunch of ketchup and/or mustard and it turns into an edible solution. I could certianly eat it; I have a reputation at my school of eating a chip dipped in cole slaw, chocolate milk, ketchup, grapes, and apple sauce.

It looks like you live in a heavily populated area. I suggest moving out of the city and into the rural areas. There should be a few farms to set up your base at. Water should also be close by. That lawnmower knife looks pretty intimidating with the gasmask.

Alright, I've decided to make a survival plan. And it turns out to be kind of good!

It's by no means a perfect plan; it needs some revising and, most of all, some sugguestions from you guys!

Any sugguestions, ideas for BOLs (I have no idea where to bug out), and constructive critisizim will be warmly welcome.

Thanks in advance!
