Creating DiversionsThis is a featured page

Picture this. You're base has been somehow compromised. Luckily, you have a secondary fallback base on the other side of town! You put your gear in your vehicle and drive two blocks before realising that your plan has failed. Zombies block the streets like living, rotting barricades. You try to get out as quickly as possible, but the sound of your vehicle's engine, the moan of the undead, and the sounds of your firearms combined attract more and more zombies. Soon the writhing mounds of zombies surround your vehicle. Your passenger lets off a spray of rifle fire through the window. A zombie grabs his arm and bites; he's infected! It is only a matter of time before you are perish in your metal tomb designed to protect you.

This worst-case scenario is just that - a worst-case scenario. But it does show that nobody can plan for the amount of zombies that will be blocking you from point A to point B. Some people plan for a hundred or less zombies. What if there are a thousand? Others plan for a thousand zombies. What if there are five thousand? And so on. An EXTREMELY VITAL skill to prepare for is causing diversions.

Below you can find a few different ways to cause diversions, what materials you would need, and so on and so forth. Please feel free to add to the existing diversions and create new ones. Just be sure to use this template (copy and paste), and please don't make new pages:

Diversions

Geenral Page Seperator.
Diversion Name: Boom Box
User: 182crazyking
Geenral Page Seperator.
Prerequisites: Primarily to escape a heavily infested zone and not come back too soon.
Danger Level: [4/10] - Unless the device can be rigged via remove control, it requires manual activation and attracts zombies ven as you escape the area.
Difficulty: [1/10] - It's a matter of activate and run with very simple components.
Description: It involves using a boom box (stereo, radio - whatever you want to call it) to attract zombies to the location. On the other side of wherever you are, a team would be getting ready to move out while the zombies would be distracted by the music coming out of the stereo.

Materials:
  • 1 stereo boom box, or similar device that can play music very loud!
  • A full amount of batteries for said device
  • A CD, MP3 player, or similar device that can make the stereo spew music - preferably the loudest music possible (i.e. heavy metal or rock over R&B or blues).
Steps:
  1. Get a person willing to drop a stereo in a somewhat infested area and high-tail it back to base.
  2. Have said person set up the boom box, start it's music, and get the hell out of there. Make sure that the song loops (continues over and over when it's done)! It may be wise to record instructions for survivors to stay away, depending.
  3. Get ready to move out and not come back for a while. Zombies should start walking towards the stereo!
  4. When there are only small trickles of zombies going to the music, high-tail it out of the city and don't look back until you're gone!
Notes: Remember that this strategy creates streams of zombies all walking towards the radio. There's a small window of oppritunity when the zombies are not going to the boom box, but aren't going back, either. Use it! Be wary of other survivors. Tell the nearby survivors of your strategy; if they send out a scav team, unaware of your plan, the team might not come back!

Difficult:1
Danger:2
Materials: knife, water bottle, pager, ducttape

This can be used in multiple situations, if a helicopter is coming you can cut a water bottle in half ( keep half of it full) put a waterproof pager in after setting it off, ductape the two halves, and finally drop it off the side. You can watch the infected run out the windows if you want. This will give you extra time to prepare for the majority of the zombies instead of the first zombies stopping you.o

lv 1 through 10
supplies can help
flares
fire crackers
knife
a helper or person that can be used or eaten and it wont bother you

I hope you are never the bait for start

the baith needs to be a person as it maybe the case that zombies only eat living people or at least for this ideal to work

the zombies may have poor sense of smell and poor hearing
in the wild almost all creature go crazy when they smell blood
a small wound needs to be made the wound must not be bad enough to kill the bait
some zombies also seem to like noise or fast moving pray kind of like fishing
it is possible that zombies don't like fire this is where the flares come in

first throw a fire cracker at a zombie make sure to have along fuse or you could hurt your self
a cut on the hand not the wrist to spill some blood wipe it on the walls or ground to let the smell draw a zombie in this is the bad part run as fast as you can

if the bait is trapped use a flare to scare the zombie

as the brave or foolish bait draws the zombies away everyone else make a safe walk to safety and stay quite as the bait may not have drawn all of the zombies away if you hear munching stab the slowest person in the groop than everyone else run as fast as you can out of the area
