Cub's PlanThis is a featured page

So far my gear is minimalist seeing as I only have to make it 1 hours drive/1 full day walk or God forbid an injury slow me down which is why my BOB is done up for 3 days JUST IN CASE!
*
Speaking of my BOB lets break it down:
1.[Untitled] This is my backpack
I keep this backpack nearby at all times the main storage compartment contains a folder. Standard type for school, which I used for my documents at work :)
2.Knife-Ka-Bar combat knife. This knife stays inside the medium sized compartment on the front.
3. Assortment of lighters. Bic type-around 3-5 are in there at any given time.
4. Q-tips dipped in petroleum jelly in a ziploc for tender.
5. 4- 16.9 ounce water bottles (Currently Nestle) and there is one in each of the front pockets and 2 inside.
6. Flavor packets for water...cant remember all but one is cherry limeade :)
7.standard 4x4s of gauze/1 tube Triple Antibiotic Ointment/5oz alcohol/5oz peroxide/5oz sterile water/As for tape-Quack Quack???...go figure it out...seriously it'll stick to anything :) and its rather durable! The above along with 1 small travel scissor for various wound care. (For the peroxide I have it in a bottle which is clear wrapped in duct tape! This is key since exposure to light can and will turn peroxide into water. Hence the bubbling when applied, that is the H2O5 going through a reaction which will result in H2O.) All of this is in the very front pocket of my bag.
8.SPAM singlets I found at Walmart I keep probably around 5 or so in it at a time.
*
The contents of this bag are swapped out in this bag. WEEKLY!
With my job as a nurse I just work say 4 on 3 off or something like that varying to 3 on 4 off, or 5 on 2 off. Depends on the bills and if I need money or not lol.
On my days off I enjoy a Spam sandwich and a bottle of water. Thus keeping my stash fresh :)
*
The main point of this bag is not to survive on but to get to my vehicle in which I keep:
1.20x10 green tarp
2.50 feet of rope(not paracord, maybe I'll swap someday)
3.1-10ft ratchet strap.
4. 2-3 more lighters
5. 2-16.9 bottles of water
6. 1- Smith&Wesson Model 65-2 .357 mag w/ a 4 inch barrel,Pachmayr grip...anyone wanna stroke it???
7. 18 rounds Winchester 110 grain hollowpoints. 12 of which are speedloaders.Last 6 are in the gun.
8. My RayBans baby! If im not wearing them already they will be here!
9. Single person sleeping bag
10. 1 pillow
[Untitled]
*Smith & Wesson Model 65-2 .357 mag w/ 4 inch barrel
The truck kit is for if disaster hits while I am at work and I must make it to my house. Or just to speed the process of me bugging out if need be while im home.
*
My home-
This is where the magic happens :)
Here I basically keep surplus for the bag. More water, matches, SPAM of course, along with:
1. 20 gallons of gasoline in 4-5gallon tanks
2. 1 bottle of propane currently connect to my BBQ but still full
3. 75 more 110 gr for the .357
4. DPMS AP4-5.56 or .223 capable
5. 400 rds 55 gr 290 loaded into magazines
6. 9- 30 rd magazines, 1 20 rd mag
7. Mossberg 500 12 gauge
8. 50 rounds 3 inch 00 buckshot
9. Springfield XDm .45 ACP w/ 5 - 13 round magazines
10. 150 rounds of .45 ACP
11. Basic toolkit for around the house repairs, assortment of small nails and screws
12. Brinkman flashlight bought at Academy. http://www.brinkmann.net/products/flashlights_and_spotlights/details.aspx?item=809-1079-1
13. Hygiene essentials-1-Deodorant 2-TP rolls 1-toothpaste 1-toothbrush
*Lettin the kids play before bed :)Black Beauty
Basically I plan on using what I have here to hole up for hopefully 1 week maybe 2 after panic before I make my move to my BOL using the above lists.
*
My truck(2007 F-150) on a full tank of gas has 250 for sure miles of fuel economy and actually closer to 300 probably. It has a 20 gallon fuel tank which I strive to always keep full never less than half. This along with my 20 gallons extra in tanks gives me a sure travel distance of 500 miles. My BOL is closer to 45 miles if that. Extra fuel will be siphoned to be used at BOL for generators im sure.
*
The drive there will be my moment of highest exposure. If my suspicions are true then I must be prepared to deter any attempts to harm my party. This moment takes careful planning as I must choose to drive or defend. I feel that I am a more confident driver than my girlfriend but I also feel more adept with a weapon. Saying I choose to let her drive, I would position myself in the back of the truck in a defensive position.
*
My dress for the occassion:
Unless caught at work in scrubs lol...
Levi 569 jeans
cotton t-shirt
mid calf cotton socks
Nike crosstrainers
*(For winter)*
Black cotton facemask
Grey Hoodie
Element snowboarding jacket.
If I need added armor I got a leather bomber type jacket.
In bag I will pack an extra pair of jeans, tshirt, 3 pairs socks 3 pair underwear.
*
My BOL!
View from front field
[Untitled]
Below I have an attached JPG of our families ranch which will serve as my primary BOL.
Directly in the middle of the field is our family made storm shelter. It will survive a hurricane, tornado, and even small arms fire.

First we poured a cement slab and placed a Conex building on top of it. Second we layed 3 - 3 ton cherry picker cables across the top and then anchored each one 6 feet into the ground. Third we bricked it with cinder blocks on all sides extend it to contain 3 more rooms. Fourth we added a roof, same type as the metal roof on the house located at its 9 o'clock. In the middle of the Conex on the left side we have metal shutters to serve as doors. The building has its own electric meter and is fully powered. For now... :)

The 3 rooms....
Besides the main compartment of the Conex there are 3 rooms each serving specific purposes. The first is where supplies are kept.
Supply Room-
100 gallons of Gasoline split up in separate containers.
2 generators.
2- 50 gallon drums of water.
Various bottles of oil.
Chainsaws
*Will try to update soon with a more thorough inventory this is what I can remember off the top of my head.*
*
equipmentequipment
Across from the supply room is room two. Room 2 serves as storage for tools and machinery.
Machine room-
Oxy-fuel Cutting torch
Welding machine
Various power tools- some AC powered and some battery powered.
Tool sets
*Will try to update soon with a more thorough inventory this is what I can remember off the top of my head.*
*
Room 3 is located on the north part of the building and is the 2nd biggest room after the main Conex.
The purpose of this room is for the dressing of wild game and production of sausage.
Butcher room view 1butcher room view 2
Butcher shop-
In this room we have equipped it with any and everything a man/ or woman could need to process game. Saws, Grinders, and even Sausage stuffers. If its needed we have it. The center of the room has hooks to where game such as deer, pig, or even cattle can be hung and processed. A drain is positioned in the center of the room with the ground slopping slightly towards it to assist in flushing the blood and fluids. Just spray it down when your done. :)
There is a window cut out but it is filled with a window unit to maintain temperature while working. Update 12-8-10: My family and I spent this last weekend processing deer meat into hamburger. There has be an upright freezer added to this room and it is now stocked with 340 lbs of hamburger meat.
*
This room has an entrance on both sides. One leading to the carport area on the left and one leading to the smokehouse built on the right side.
The smokehouse we built on the upper right side using the left over cinderblocks. It serves its purpose quite well.
smokehouse
*
South of the house you will notice 3 more buildings, a pool, and a small orchard.
The buildings I will list from north to south with the most north being building 1.
*
Building 1 is a garage
Garage-
Toyota Tundra V8 4WD
Toyota Sequioa
Honda side by side atv
Honda Rubicon atv
Tractor with front end loader.
quick transportquick transportheavy metal
*
Building 2 is the pump house w/ adjoining area to park atvs
Honda Recon atv currently parked here.
We used to process our game here actually.
Inside of the pump house is our water well, generators can be hooked up to power it in case of power failure.
*
Building 3
firewood
wheelbarrows
rakes
weed eaters
lawn mower
shovels
gardening tools
*
To the east of the storm shelter you will notice our pond, feed by an underground stream its never ran dry.
Spent my childhood catching fish at this very spot :) oh the memories...
Natural Water Source!
In the northeast section you will notice more building.
These buildings serve multiple functions from storage to feed sheds for the animals, along with 2 chicken coops.
*
Livestock-
We have long since got rid of our cows and horses. Now we use the pens to keep the wild pigs we trap or catch using the dogs.
Piggies
As of last count we had 22 hogs, some of which are not much more than piglets.
Between the 2 coops we have close to 50 chickens.
Also in this section we have 1 acre fenced off for a small garden.
Tomatoes, bananna peppers, egg plant, squash and green peas are just a few of the vegetables we have grown and continue to grow in this section.(South of the house & shelter you will notice a small fruit orchard of mayhaws.
There is also another water well located in this area that can be ran with the use of a generator.
Currently we only have 1 tractor on the ground there.
Mahindra 2wd w/ tiller and brush hog attachments.
We have 3 more tractors and 5 atvs between the rest of the family but will they be there at that time I cannot say.
*
Hunting-
Wild game will be hunted for the most part to the north of our BOL. We have aquired a private hunting lease which spans for close to 500 acres. We take our share of whitetail and wild pig from it each year and every year there seem to be more than the last. It has been well taken care of with feeding plots planted to keep game in the area.
To the left of our BOL is one of the largest longhorn cattle ranches in our county. If hunting fails we will have that option, along with upland bird hunting. Dove and quail are frequently seen in the area, along with many other species
of wild bird. Rabbit, squirrel, and coyote are also prominent species in the area.
*
Current food-
Besides the standard pantry of groceries, we also have canned preserves, and jellies. Also we will have all the already frozen processed game in the deep freezers. Using a generator for a few hours at night should allow us to keep it while we eat it. We could also smoke it in our smokehouse. There is also the pre-mentioned garden and orchard, and current livestock.
*
The perimeter-
The main 15 acres is fenced in with barbed wire.
The driveway entrance leads you across a cattle guard.
To the left a longhorn ranch spanning as far as I can see.
North, East, and South are all woodland.
*
Perimeter defenses-
BOL will have(pending all make it) about 15 people staying there. I have set up watch posts in the northeast and southeast sections. One being the hay loft in the upper right corner and the second being a climbing stand in the lone tree in the bottom right section. These 2 sections should provide sufficient view of the area and an always watchful eye. For night time we have 1 ATN Aries generation 1 nightvision scope mounted on a 10/22. This hopefully will not be needed often as there is usually enough light to see decently provided by the stars and the moon. This is one advantage to having an open area such as this.
Every person in my family from the children to adults are proficient enough with a firearm to take down a deer at 200-300 yards. The collection of firearms at the ranch house span from .17 HMR up to .300 win mags. 20 gauges, 12's and even a lone 10 gauge double barrel. Ammo might be a concern if we are wasteful, but as long as we are smart and continue to stock up we should be ok for a while. Hopefully...
*
BOL #2 Location with 10 miles of current BOL...Can cover in daylight by foot with no problems. People I could come across are also minimal crossing 5 houses along the way. So say 7 possible encounters....6 of these people are older 50+, possibly one young adult male. *
Bug out location number two is a situation pending bug out shelter. It is located dead center in the heart of our hunting lease. This is in case we need ultimate stealth. With the tree cover satalite imagery such as google earth can collect no images. As long as we keep the vehicles off we should be made in the shade. : )
*
The BOL is actually an old school bus. The front end has been replaced, by removing the engine block and transforming it into a trailor tongue. Now we simply hook it to the Mahindra and move it place to place. The inside has been remodeled with 4 bunk bends and 2 recliners. There is even a wood burning heater that doubles as a stove top! It has a stove pipe straight to an outlet on the roof! Its even got a sink with a water reserve tank. We use it as our makeshift hunting lodge with a fire pit outside and everything. My uncle this past year altered it to double as an outside grill as well.
*
The location provides us with naturally occuring resources. Multiple ponds in the area provide water and food. The woods themselves provide us with all the food we can forage or hunt. Bow hunting has always produced time and time again every season. Trapping of pigs will also take place since we already have the traps set up ready to go. I grew up in these very woods people, I am taking a lesson learned from Sun Tzu himself when I say that I want to defend on familar land. I will not face the enemy of the ground of his choice, no he will battle on mine.
*
I should also add that at this point my weapon loadout will change. My new daily carry will be my .357 revolver, Henry .22 lever action, and my Kabar. Finally all these years of buying .22 rounds will pay off. Im just guessing we have 15 boxes of 550 rounds lol in my dads closet alone : ) We've got 10 or so .22's between my family members. From marlins to nylons just grab one ya like lol.

*
BOL #3 Within 100 miles of primary BOL.
[Untitled]
If decided we must break for this location gas will be siphoned from all vehicles and replaced into a 3 possibly 4 vehicle convoy and the left over collected in gas cans. Within my party there should be 5 V8 extended cab pickups, capable of transporting at least 4 passengers and still carry gear and supplies and possibly haul a trailor as well. We would take most of the equipment for harvesting the game we kill. We would load the ATV's into the back of the trucks. Put 3 people in the trucks with 1 guy on the ATV as lookout or all passengers inside the cab. Makes no difference I guess. We have one cargo trailer that if we decided to load, could be towed by the Sequoia. We could decide to leave by 6am and pack and head out arriving well before noon. Not saying that thats the times we would choose just that the entire operation can be completely rather quickly.
*
A secluded primary point on lake Toledo Bend. We have a 2 story log cabin on about 1 maybe 2 acres. Surrounded by a chainlink fence with a gated entrance. Only way into the cabin is by stairs since it is on stilts. We have 3 flat bottom aluminum boats here. The great thing about an aluminum boat is when its out of gas it is far easier to paddle than a bass boat lol. The coves coming off of this point are some of the most productive areas of the lake always drawing in alot of boats during tournaments. However getting here takes you down 1 single dirt road about 15-20 miles from the nearest gas station or marina. We evacuated to this location during hurricane Rita. There are less than 10 other campsites on this point. However around 30 people went to the same area as us during that evacuation so threat of one of them being infected is definitely a possibility. The securing of the point and inspection of every single person there will take place immediately upon arrival. My family has built, what is now in fact the only operable boat ramp on the point. The old one that has been there since Moses has long since crumbled away...
*
Of all the things that may happen I am 100% my squad/family in our party will be better armed for this situation. At this point we will be at our last stand point and any opposition must be dealt with swiftly and efficiently. The securing of this location will be my top priority. I choose this location as a fail-safe since I KNOW survival at this location is completely possible. A cabin by a lake secluded in a national forest + my armed force with our knowledge of farming, hunting, trapping, and fishing = Money in the bank. I will so not take any chances that can lose this place.
*
Being as this Primary point is reaches so far out into the main lake body. I think it would even be possible to go lumberjack mode and construct a makeshift barrier from trees that would cut ties with the mainland entirely. Imagine a 10 ft tall barrier of trees! Station a few guys on this and you have decent defensive capabilities. I would not bank on raiders coming down this road, and that could even be prevented mostly with the dropping of a few trees on the long road into here. The ordinary traveler is not going to be coming down to visit either so if someone is coming they can best be figured to be treated as a hostile. There will be a quarantine process any friendly will have to go through. They will be asked to submit their weapons during this time. If they refuse then we refuse them entry. After the process is complete we will equip them with their sidearm. We will educate them on the .22 and this shall be their primary for the time being. My reasoning for this is: 1-It is still effective for hunting the misc game in the area. 2-I expect this to be our weapon with the most ammo. 3. They will not feel helpless, also since I plan on this being the main gun of carry for most of the people there so everyone is equal. Also they will be put through an initiation where they spend time on each job we have. Everyone will be trained so we can always operate at full capacity.
*
If one wanted to raid effectively here it would be by boat...I am still stumped as to a defense to this...maybe use the tree tops cut from the trunks half submerged off of the banks...Only leave a section open which we launch our crafts out of. LOL come to think of it that would also draw more fish in by providing them cover. You can always find a bass by flippin a jig in and around this type of cover.
*
Fishing....
*
Well simple put fishing tackle would be of no short supply at this location. Traps would be set out daily and we would use the live bait we catch for trot line bait. Boys and Girls this is a must have skill I promise to keep your belly full during the summer, spring, and fall seasons. These traps can be purchased at any outdoor shop and they will always net you some perch. Perch can be use as cut bait for larger fish or even as a small meal itself. Placing a simple piece of Styrofoam inside the trap will provide you will a fake bait which surprisingly enough works rather effectively. A piece of bread can be added to increase the effectiveness if you have some or the ability to grow grain.
*
Trot lines and stump lines...
I plan on setting a good 10 stump lines and 3-5 trot lines.
My trot lines generally contain 15-20 hooks, while my stumps will only use one.
I have some noodles already rigged if I choose to use them giving me the opportunity to have 50 more hooks in the water.
*
Catfish are hardy creatures. Once caught we can keep them for a couple weeks maybe even longer in these large cages we have on our dock. We use the cages because stringers are not effective on Toledo Bend you leave one on a rope and your leaving Mr. Gator some dinner.
Speaking of Mr. Gator...I have a few tips on how to get him out of the water and over a fire if anybody needs them. : )
*
This concludes my current strategies and BOL/Survival Plan....\

Questions/Comments...let me have em :D

You already have everything you need to survive zombies! Nicely done. I'm practically green with envy :)
My plan is mostly to move from my current location to one of the bigger farms nearby and set up shop there. However, my plan sucks hairy monkey balls compared to yours lol!
