OK, there is one recent thread about having a Pre-Z-Day convention or general purpose meeting. SasquatchJim has proposed a location in central Virginia (NOT West Virginia). How close to actual civilization he has yet to disclose.
PlanningLike any event that has multiple factors beyond your control (like surviving Z-day for instance), proper planning can mitigate disaster (or severely reduce that from occuring).
There have to be events, speakers, classes and activities to justify (and draw) sufficient participation and expenditure for all who travel. Accomodations, amenities a food plan, sanitation plan, etc have to be settled well in advance.
I offer open solicitation on ideas. The only catch is: if you have constructive input and ideas, you cannot just throw them out there without offering the 'how' as well. It's easy to say 'paintball games' and harder to coordinate everything involved.
For example, I propose showing zombie movies that we all know and love. To do that, we need electricity, audio-visual equipment (projection system) and proper seating. I've got nearly all of the movies and I'm sure others do as well.
We are all survivalists (except you posers) and roughing it is something we relish on occasion. Camping may or may not be an option. If not, there has to be a motel near enough to make this worthwhile
.Same for food although an experiment in mass feeding might be an event all it's own.
Sasquatch Jim's location.Where?: Near Ladysmith, Virginia.
What: A park owned by one of my relatives.
Time/Duration: a 2 day event. The first day is the real "meeting;" we all come together, talk, debate, make merry, whatever. The second day, for those who wish to do so, there will be a zombie-themed airsoft match at a location around an hour away.
Posssible events:
SasJim:
- Debates (Members volunteer to defend certain topics; shamblers vs. sprinters, revolver vs. auto, AK-47 vs. M16, etc.)
- Merchandise sales: The logo contest is almost complete. We can sell hats and T-shirts. There are several companies that can make customized clothes in bulk.
- (submitted by JPTank, but put on here by Jim.) Zombie-themed paintball matches. If anyone would be willing to let us use their land. Also, I suggested making this airsoft.
Costs: Around 3-4 dollars for the meeting. However, the arisoft match is $25 per person (not my call.)
10 Feb add: since nothing is written in stone or clay tablet, what precludes from multiple events or locations at different times? S-Jim has proposed a location in VA, Mortalius has an idea and location as well (in KY?).
Like anything the basics:
location/place
Time/duration
costs
events (the 'what' are we going to do)
how many of who might attend
No need for all of naysayers to be right all of the time (it'll never happen, I won't come, etc) and it doesn't have to be a full blown ridiculous 3 ring circus either.
I haven't been involved with other zombie groups, probably because they are weak, but if there are ideas and past event from them, it would help.
