End of the World Speculation
Have you ever heard any rumors about the end of the world, be the cause related to zombies or not? Post them here!
Sgt.Schultz sez: I have heard that the world is going to end either December 21 2013 or 2014, because it's an unlucky number, we've been due for a disaster long enough, and the Mayan Calender ends on that date. Then again, this came from a guy at Radioshack who had a Grandpa with a Y2K thing set up in his basement.
ikillzeds- I'm pretty sure its gonna be December 21 2012 because the Mayan calender ends there and some other calenders I think Aztecs maybe I don't know but yeah it's probably gonna be Z-day.
ZS207------Update----It is Dec.21, but there are perfectly logical explanation for why the MAYAN calendar ends on Dec.21---------------------
#1.In the 790s, there was a little bit of famine.
#2.The famine started a domino effect, when one city ran out of food, the survivors would move on to new cities, and repeated the process
#3.The king is killed, and fighting begins.
#4.The few survivors are wiped out by newcomers---Spanish Conquistadors.
No MAYANS means no finished calendar, and the last date recorded could have been Dec.21,2012. Because of what happened in these events. I'm very good at history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TonyPro--I was under the impression that the Mayans did, in fact, say the world would actually end (with catastrophic earthquakes) on that date. I'll do some more research. The scary bit is, they predicted the coming of the Conquistadors three hundred years before they came, and they turned out to be right.
Actually, there are some slightly more likely explanations to the Mayan calendar. I agree that 12-21-2012 is not the end of their calender. This website explains it, but basically, they used a different notation that we do. Their's was more similar to the odometer of a car. 12-21-2012 to us is actually 13.0.0.0.0 to the Mayans. This is the end of the "great cycle". It just means that Dec. 13, 2012 will be the first day of the new "great cycle", or 0.0.0.0.0, like when your odometer rolls over back to 0.

byates: Here is the site with the definite date for the end of the world: http://www.bible.ca/pre-date-setters.htm
It will end some time between 44 AD and some date to be determined later.
And this website tells you how it will end, also: http://www.exitmundi.nl/
Hey, one is Canadian and the other is Dutch, so you know they are honest.
This is an addition based on the comment from Toomin, as said at the beginning " Have you ever heard any rumors about the end of the world, be the cause related to zombies or not? Post them here!" I find it comforting that we will survive the Zombies, maybe we will be able to set Zed against the Astro-Lemurs?
Personally, I feel that we in the States owe a debt of gratitude to the Canadians for supplying us with Whiskey during the Whiskey Rebellion and Prohibition.

More information on the Mayan Calender
Toomin:
However honest we appear to be Byates, Canadians are human beings and in many ways much like Americans. And I read a bit of that Canadian page. Here's an excerpt on how the world will end:
"At that point, Astro-Lemurs (extra-terrestrials similar in shape to lemurs, but with rainbow colored bodies) will attack the entire human race and beat them to death with gigantic burritos."
Interesting...
I personally don't believe the date is set in stone. I think that when/if there is an outbreak it will be purely accidental, and no one will see it coming. If people knew the exact date an outbreak or end of the world scenario would occur, humanity as a whole would be much more prepared to take action.
Chupathingy: Its the Mayan calender ends there and the Aztecs predict something big will happen on that day.
smilerwithaknife: I can't say at what date the world will end, but I think my research has yielded biblical proof of a zombie apocalypse. This passage, taken from the New Living Translation, states that in the end times the people will "attack their neighbor on the right, but will still be hungry. They will devour their neighbor on the left, but will not be satisfied. In the end they will even eat their own children." Now, I'm no Bible scholar, but doesn't that sound a bit like the feeding habits of the walking dead?
Here's the link so you can verify my findings: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=isaiah%209:20;&version=51;
Tactics101: That passage appears in the movie Dawn of The Dead or a passage close to it so yeah that does send out a message to anyone who believes in prophecies of the bible.
ZS207:Chupathingy, this reminds me of the one time in history where everyone in one area believed in a coming apocalypse.A "Prophet" said that the world was going to end on the year 1000 A.D .Because of this, most of the farmers didn't plant anything. It didn't end, and for the next year and a half there was famine and starvation. The moral is:you can be prepared, but you should be prepared for if it doesn't happen. The European peoples learned that the hard way.
Even though I have contributed a lot to this page, I do not believe in the Mayan DoomsDay Prophesy.
BanditJack: I'm more worried about the Milky Way colliding with Andromeda in some 3 billion years.
UnUndead:
To those who posted things about biblical predicted
apocalypse, you do know that Jesus said all of his apostles would live to see it, right? I don't know the exact passage, but it's toward the end of one of the gospels. He also predicted that it would come a generation after Israel became a powerful nation, and Israel did just that in the forties. A generation in Jesus' time was ~40 yrs, so the end should have come in the eighties.
People have been predicting the apocalypse for ever, and it's never come true.
Thrawn5:
in an addition to UnUndeads comment about the Scriptures regarding Jesus talking about the apocalypse, the generation term is talking about humans as a whole (all of our generations), this is just one state of our being. also, if you look in the book of Revelation it says that the apocalypse will take at least a thousand years (the beast is supposed to reign for that long).
as for theories that I have heard about the end of the world:
there is one about there being a foretold list of the names of all of the Popes up until the current one, after that, the world dies.
there is also another one regarding an asteroid that will hit earth in 2028.
I don't really set much by either of these.
BIA!: Honestly, if the zombies do come in full swing (Class 4), there is almost no chance of survival unless everyone gets to very unremote areas. I read somewhere (Edit: Found a page on the wiki a few minutes after posting - Credit goes to "Thinking Nuclear" page) about a little thing called Nuclear Meltdown. With a Class 4, order will be completely shattered, so the last thing someone is gonna want to do is function the Nuclear power plant. Without proper personnel, it will not be able to keep cooled, and we will experience a Nuclear Meltdown at every single plant on Earth.
That being said, I believe that ( Non-Z-Day scenario) the world will end as Nostradamus predicted it. I'm not a religious person ( I'm actually Pagan), and I understand that Nostradamus considered himself a holy medium for Christianity and that (the christian) god was the one who helped him predict future events, but knowing how many futures he accurately predicted, I fully believe it will end how he says so. Anyone not familiar with Nostradamus and his works, do a google search XDD. It's not that hard.
Andy REDDSON: Nostradomus said it would be the 35th century.
AL Most Foul: Why do so many people give credence to that mayan bullshit. Hey if the mayans really wanted to pick a time for the end of the world it would have happend hundredes of years ago when their civilization fell apart. So the stone cutter ran out of room and figured by the time his calander was up, he would be dead and already spent the money they paid him.

If it does end on 2012, as Z-Day, that's fine for me. I'll be 19 by then with a Katana (Jokoto) and my supplies!
