Can I know how much zombies you can decapitate with one strike of an ASP? With my Katana, I can decapitate three only by unsheathing... and you say batons have a rapid speed of deployment?

No, I haven't tried to build one, though I did try one night to build a model from plastic straws and a ballpoint pen spring.

I've long had this idea for a weapon to be used from inside some fortification, to kill zombies pressing against the exterior wall or fence or whatever - something the user would not have to swing, like a blade or a club. The idea is a steel rod, inside barrel, on top of a coil spring. When the rod is retracted the spring is compressed. When the weapon is fired the rod shoots out about 4-6" with enough force to pierce a zombie skull. You poke it out through a loophole or window in the wall or fence, push it up against a zombie head, pull the trigger and skewer the zombie.

My design is really crude, but I see the barrel (a steel pipe probably) having a slot on the side, and a handle (I'm thinking something with a jointed arm, like the pump handle on a pneumatic air rifle) would seat in a notch at one end of the slot, and the arm would go through the slot into a notch in the rod. Pull back back on the handle and retract the rod to re-compress the spring. The trigger could be a very simple affair with a straight, pivoting handle, notched on the end to engage a notch (sear) in the rod.

Anyway, if you and a hundred of your closest friends are stuck inside some sort of urban castle, killing zombies day in and day out with melee weapons to conserve ammo, waiting for winter to arrive and freeze the suckers, you might build a few dozen of these things. Then, instead of hacking away with your axe or sword or club all day, you could take turns at the windows, one guy shooting, a team behind him reloading (cocking) the things, rotating people out as they got tired.

Since the divorce I don't have a garage or a work bench or tools, so I doubt I'll be building a real one, but I may try to model one with PVC and a wooden dowel. If I can pull it off I'll post photos somehow.

i have welded before and my grandfather has the certifications to do any kind of welding there is except underwater. also i looked over the dates for this thread, didn't even realize it was old ill look for a newer one.

that's what i had in mind Donovan, like a trench spike on the bottom and maybe one pointing forward, wasn't thinking too hard about it yet

just a word of warning on tomahawks and hatchets. I was a volunteer search and rescue member for many years and worked with Canadian Armed Forces SAR techs. They had many stories about actual rescues. Many of these stories involved people chopping wood/cutting through ice and burying the hatchet into a knee.

Another REAL weapon. the time tested long handled framing hammer. about 32 ounces of man power with each skull busting swing. Simple and effective unless you smoke too much and the dry heaves set in.

"The M1 Carbine is a great firearm the bullet is a 30 caliber round it is a man killing round sure you can hunt with it but it was designed to be a small, light weight paratrooper rifle. Some would argue its crappy and it doesn't penetrate but the soldiers who used it said it was a great weapon. Now the .22 is a great survival gun. it doesn't go bang but it pops so you don't give away your position. Also it penatrates the skulland ricochets around in it but it dosent come out. plus consult the zombie survival guide on this. "
