By ZombieSurvival101Step one in survival is STOP! …Take a deep breath.
People die because of panic. The best thing to do is find some shelter and signal for help. Take stock. You may have a few things to work with, but what you have in your head is what will keep you alive.

Once you are calm and safe, check yourself over. Address any injuries as best you can. In many situations you will live as long as your feet do. Keep them clean, dry and warm. Treat any cut or blister as a major injury that could keep you from moving away from danger or collecting food and water.

A healthy human can survive for a couple weeks without food, and a couple days without water. But hypothermia, heat stroke and shock will kill you in a couple of hours. Keep an eye on the weather and what it may do this time of year, and your area of the world. Shelter and/or a fire, are almost always your first priorities.

You may have to cut down a tree, or kill an animal to survive. Survival is not a time to be PC.

Shelter:
Try to build as good a shelter and bed as you can. Use everything you can think of for insulation. Sleeping on bare ground even in warm climates CAN KILL YOU!

Fire:
A fire is mans best friend in the wild. It provides heat, light to work by, protection from predators, a rescue beacon, a place for cooking food and decontaminating water, etc, etc...

Signals:
You won’t be rescued if you can’t be found. You need to be seen or heard at least several hundred yards away or from the air.

Water:
You can go a day or two without water, but eventually you must drink. An adult should drink at least a couple of liters per day (more in hot climates) (older Water Link)

Food:
Food isn’t something you need to consider unless rescue is a good many days or weeks off. But you will begin feeling weak and lethargic and less able to effect your own survival after a few days. Plants are a risky proposition, so if you don't know FOR SURE that something is edible... don't even touch it. Animals are another thing. If it can Walk, Crawl, Fly, Hop or Swim... put it in your pot!

JuliKitty Water: What about bleach? (page: 1 2 3) 41 Feb 1 2012, 11:07 PM EST by Sharpie41

I heard that bleach can clean water well enough if its clear water, with out boiling it. Here's the link I found that says how much to use :* http://www.newjerusalem.com/PureWater.htm *:. I was reading the "Water: Purity, How much, and How to get it..." I noticed that no one said anything anything about the hot water tank, (no need to purifay it before you drink it, if you turn the water line off fast enough). Or even draining all the pipes that you would be able to. With the hot water tank you are looking at least 20 gallons in there. I'm not saying that the rest of the ideas are really good, but i just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

Cameronb99 Essential Skills: Boy Scouts 4 Jan 23 2012, 5:00 PM EST by Zee-Man

You may look at this thread and think Boy Scouts and zombie survival what do they have to do with each other?! Well being a Boy scout myself I have relized that boy scouting is very helpful in learning survival skills because it teaches three main main lessons:
Survival(duh)
Resourcefulness
First Aid

All of these have taught me a great deal on how to survive. Now here is what I want to know. What do you think, do you agree or disagree with me if so why?

StrykerPez Water: Purity, How much, and How to get it... (page: 1 2) 28 Jan 23 2012, 8:18 AM EST by Zee-Man

You're busy battling the undead when suddenly... you get thirsty!

Every good survivalist knows to have some water on hand, but this thread is for asking and answering the specific questions about water.

Heck, I think this should be our topic of the week.

Anyways, To start things off, recommendations per day per person are a gallon in survival situations. You can live on a half gallon, but you better drink every drop and not sweat too much.

So where do you get a gallon of fresh water per day?

First is what you've got stored up. I've got 30 gallons of fresh, drinkable water stored in my kitchen in FDA-approved plastic jerry cans. You can also stockpile water bottles, plastic jugs from the grocery store, Sparkletts bottles, or any other safe container of water. As long as it keeps the water in, contaminants out, and doesn't leach into the water, you can store water in it.

The second way to ensure you've got some water is to scavenge it. If you're quick about it, you can fill your bathtub and other various bowls, pots, and buckets before the municipal water loses pressure or gets contaminated. You can also find water in the tanks of flush-toilets, in water heaters, and even in the pipes of houses (close the main, open an upstairs sink, and suck with all your might on the front yard garden hose).

Even still, you're going to want to purify anything you aren't 100% sure of its safety unless there's no other choice. I have a set of purification tablets that disinfect and deodorize the water to make it safe, but some people have great success with other forms of purification.

Lets hear your opinions and thoughts!
